Novecento, good but not suited for romantic dinner for two – Food: This was our first visit to Novecento. The food was fresh with high quality ingredients, but was quite bland in flavor. The presentation was nice and portion sizes were generous. For appetizers we had the ceviche which was tasty, but again bland, and the empanadas, which were pretty good. For dinner, my husband ordered the filet mignon and I had the corvina (fish) stacked on polenta. Both the filet and corvina were cooked to perfection, but the fish was so bland I could't eat more than a few bites. Dessert I have to say was the best part of the meal! The triple chocolate was yum (a chocolate molten lava cake with chocolate icecream and shaved chocolate straws) the dulce de leche creme brulee was also heavenly.
Drinks: Nice wine selection by the bottle, but if you prefer to drink by the glass, you will find a very limited selection. My husband enjoyed his merlot (can't remember the vintage). My French martini was quite small (smallest martini glass you will ever see) and weak on the grey goose, which was dissappointing considering the $12 price.
Ambience: Nice contemporary warm decor, but so noisy that I had to convince my husband not to leave. The quarters are quite cramped as well. We were seated at a tiny booth for two which was very tight but sufficient. They have seating indoors and out. The fashionable and loud crowd was primarily groups of friends in the 25-50 age range (some older).
Dress: Casual elegant/hip style.
Service: Our waiter was friendly and attentive, as was the rest of the staff. If you plan to go, make reservations or you will be waiting around for a long while.
Overall: Novecento may be a good place to spend time with friends...you can be as loud as you want as it's so noisy no one will notice, but it's definitely not recommended for a romantic dinner for two, which is what we went for. We were happy to leave and wished we would have gone elsewhere.
Argentinean delicacies find a festive and flavorful home in this lively Coral Gables eatery with a South American bent. – In Short
This Latin American restaurant likes to run with the cool kids on the block. If the ample outdoor patio seating area and Happy Hour drink specials don't convince you, maybe the live DJ will. The menu grounds the place to its meat-loving Argentinean roots with staples like grilled sweetbreads, skirt steak, and savory beef pastries. It's still a bit of an international mishmash, though, as Mexican chicken quesadillas, Cuban ceviche con tostones, and Italian beef Carpaccio rub elbows with the indigenous dishes.
