The shop is new, but it's a loving recreation of a classic—in the very city that invented the ice cream soda. Ice cream & syrups are made in-house from local ingredients.

Hands-down the best ice cream in town, but watch out for long lines and lack of air conditioning in the summer. Franklin Fountain also has unique sodas (like lavender), phosphates and egg creams. The soy ice cream isn't bad, either.

Old timey dressed people dishing out handmade ice cream. Need I say more? Oh, it's DELICIOUS.

Amazing but $$$$$$$$$$$$ – The ice cream is amazing but costs a small fortune! Basic flavors and sodas and milshakes you won't find elsewhere.

Summer paradise in a cup – I have never heard of this place until a friend took me here. Some parlors buy bassets, some buy cheaper brands of ice cream, but at the Franklin Fountain they make it themselves and it shows. It is the best Ice cream I have ever eaten and I think that you will agree with me. Made in-house super rich, super premium ice cream that's not too sweet and served at the perfect temperature with no ice crystals. You can get ice cream by itself, or you can order off the menu which has original and very tasty things such as your choice of a pie slice and home made vanilla to go with it or if you want in it, which is surprisingly good. Milkshakes are excellent. Some toppings are home made such as the home made marshmallows that are dense but delicious that swim in some milkshakes. There are also home made waffle cones and when I asked about the beautiful artsy looking sugar candy the chashier said that downstairs they make their own sugar candy in hundred year old molds. The ambience is stunning; it is authentically retro, clean, and inviting. This is not the place to be getting take out, sit down, relax and eat eat eat. There is no wonder why Food Network's show called Road Tasted came here.

In this storied Old City locale that once housed Eroticakes, a turn-of-the-century shop fresh purpose as an old-time soda fountain, holding court just steps from the historic district. – In Short
The Berley family has a long history in the antique trade. So when brother Eric decided to retool a former bakeshop of questionable taste into a wondrous and authentic turn-of-the-century style soda fountain, no painstaking detail was spared. Today, hand-made Franklin Ice Cream is carefully dispensed over Tennessee pink marble counters with antique wooden cabinetry lining the walls and tin ceilings completing the scene overhead. Vintage signs signal classic sundaes, splits, soda fountains favorites, fruit pies and other baked goods. Additional fare is found in homespun fudge, old-school chewing gum and even America's first soft drink--Moxie cola.
