Eating in absolute darkness is surprisingly fun. – A European concept by way of LA, "dark dining" is like a power outtage with gourmet cuisine and white-gloved service. Before entering, diners are presented with a multiple-choice (beef or fish, salad or pasta, etc.), three-course prix-fixe menu. Guests are then introduced to their servers--all of whom are blind--and led by the hand to their tables. The inside of the restaurant isn't dim, or even "dark;" it is eyeball-achingly black, the idea being that with one sense completely extinguished, taste and smell are heightened. Hearing sharpens, too, and people-watching becomes people-listening as diners feel their way through the meal (most people quickly abandon silverware), and start planning their next blind date.
