Tonight my friend and I went to The George and had a very nice experience. When I arrived, it was quiet at 6:15pm, so I sat at the bar to wait for my friend. The bartender was nice and we were able to have a conversation when I wasn't expecting to do anything but sit and sip my water. A few minutes later, my friend and I sat at a nice, big table and took advantage of the free wine tasting. The 'wine lady' was very nice as well. We ordered 4 tapas -- goat cheese-stuffed peppadew, chicken quesadillas, figs and blue cheese, and bruchetta. All were yummy and different. We printed out the citysearch "buy 3 get 1 free" coupon and our checks each came out to just over $10. I gave a nice tip and left happy, having spent less than $15 and having tried 2 wines and 4 tapas. The portions were reasonable (each had enough for us to split, and then a little extra) and the atmosphere was hip and relaxing. Big windows for people-watching too :). I'd definitely go back!
Pros: Yummy and different food, free wine tasting, nice atmosphere and setting; online coupon!
Cons: Service could have been a little more attentive/personal

My husband and I were looking for a place to eat and have some drinks and thought George looked very elegant and retro from the outside. We walked in at about 11pm this past Saturday (July 12) the sign said seat yourself so we did. We sat for about 10mins towards the back and no one came to serve us. I got up and approached someone that was serving and asked if they were still serving food and she rudely said "yes our late night menu" and walked away. I was shocked! And went to sit back down. My Husband, who is more patient then I am gave her the benefit of the doubt that she was just having a bad day. He went to the bar and asked if we could get some menus and service and the bartender told him we had to wait for the wait staff but gave us a menu to look over. We waited for another 30 minutes and watched as the same bartender and waitress walked past us several times before we got up and just left. Keep in mind the place was not even that packed!! You could walk normally through the main area and the back where we were sitting only had a few people mingling. Absolutely no reason for bad service. Thank god I didn't have clients with me!!
Pros: Retro and elegant looking
Cons: Service
