Great Dim Sum – I give Red Egg high marks for fresh and interesting dim sum. It was not a long wait and the service is very very nice and attentive to my needs (I am gluten intolerant, so that's always a nuisance!) Our waitress was wonderful --more concerned for my health than I am -- and the food options were excellent. The decor is meant to be edgy and hip, and succeeds fairly well at that!

HORRIBLE SERVICE ,FOOD, BAR AND MORE.... – Service was horrible. Water was never refreshed. dim sum is ok but not the best, If you want a nice bar hangout then go a block north to Onieals. They have cheap food and half price drink. It doesn’t feel any bar fun in RED EGG . AND THE FOOD IS expensive , mediocre entrees, This place virluallly had no customer service. this place has gotten worse and worse. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Great staff, pretty good food – Basically, the 1/2 price dim sum and drinks is pretty good. It will not be the best dim sum you've had BUT some of the selections are delicious. The staff was so attentive and the service was quick but not rushed.

Citysearch Editorial Review – Operating under the assumption that “if you remodel it, they will come,” in 2010 Red Egg was transformed from a Chinese and Peruvian restaurant into a Chinese restaurant and posh lounge. Consequently, the decor has shifted from somewhat sterile to what might be described as glossy elegance, with polished black tables, red accent lamps and a bigger bar. The menu shifted too, with more emphasis on dim sum and Americanized classics like chicken with broccoli, General Tso’s chicken and orange-flavored beef, many with suggested wine pairings. The owner no doubt got some tips from his old man, who once ran Shun Lee Palace, among other New York eateries.

rude bartender – I do love some of the dim sum but if you are looking for a special experience, this is not the place.

We ordered martni mix drinks and the glasses is dirty we asked the skinny bartender she so unhappy and took alway the glasses and didn't give me the new one. I'm so mad, It's not her work that bothers me; it's her attitude, that no spirits little girl is so weird.

The women restroom- disgusting w. no papertowels! There are much better, places to get Dim Sum in Chinatown.

RED EGG : Managers or Owner better pick up their game.........

WARNING!!!! – WARNING!

3 of us ordered 3 Sake Lychee Martini. We told the waiter the drinks were too light and it tasted like Lychee juice. We asked them to mix the drinks again. The waiter took away our drinks.

In the meantime, I was making phone call right by the bar. I saw the bartender poured all 3 drinks into a big glass and poured more alcohol in it. I guessed she was trying to serve us the same drink by just simply adding more alcohol in it and poured it back to 3 glasses. The waiter turned his head and noticed I was standing by the bar. He immediately told the bartender not to do that and asked the bartender to change all 3 glasses for us and re-mix them for us because I was watching at them.

disappointment – Not sure about all the high ratings maybe it's better at restaurant but i had delivery and it was really oily, salty, and questionable Felt really sick afterwards and the next day. could have been an off night for them but i would not eat there again ever.

I am wondered " Manlongat " is the owner from RED EGG or customer??? cause " Manlongat " wrote the good review seems like advertisement.....

A Place Not to Pass Up – My husband and I have gone to Red Egg since it first opened. It's been our experience that whether by word of mouth or another new restaurant rating, the quality of food and service can be affected. Having read, out of curiousity, all four "pages" of reviews, I am amazed that there were a number of poor reviews. One thought I had in regards to those was that I noticed that many were poorly written (spelling, phrasing, etc.) and I even wondered if they were written by the same person - despite different names as the style of writing seemed similar. By contrast there were a number of reviews praising Red Egg.

I am among those who think the food and service at Red Egg is terrific. The dim sum, which is the restaurant's focus, has been superb. Unlike other dim sum restaurants in Chinatown, Red Egg prepares theirs to order so that the food is always freshly made and hasn't been sitting in the containers for so long. There are a number of dishes that are staples at Chinese restaurants that Red Egg does very well or better: chicken feet, sticky rice in lotus leaves (with a scallop even!) and shrimp stuffed peppers for instance. Other dim sum offered that are new to us to name a few that are just as delicious are the veal chops, lamb chops and the beef ribs. The desserts are terrific also: my favorite is their delicious green tea rice balls while my daughter loves their creamy yellow paste buns.

Two points I'd like to briefly refer to as brought up in the last review: Yes, Red Egg offers Peruvian food but it does not emphasize being a Peruvian restaurant nor does it say it is one per se, let alone a "fusion" restaurant. You might say the nod to that region is in passing reference - as one restaurant review stated, the fact that the mother is Peruvian . As for the trendy, we are not eating at the restaurant whether it has good looks or not but because the dim sum itself is excellent.

The service has consistently been attentive and courteous even when the restaurant has been crowded. The hostesses have been pleasant and friendly - certainly not "mean" or "sad looking." As for the waiters not speaking English, give me a break! We do not speak Mandarin or any Chinese dialect, but the waiters have never had to get an interpreter for understanding us order in English.

Often an opening restaurant that starts off well will eventually live off the good reviews when the quality of the food has deteriorated. This is not true in the case of Red Egg - as I said before, my husband and I have gone there a number of times since it opened - good weather, bad weather, sumer, fall, spring, winter - and the quality of the food has never disappointed us.

Have we had a bad dish so far? No. Am I impartial in my praise? Obviously not. But it depends to some extent what a diner is looking for and expects. My husband and I consider ourselves knowledgeable about the quality and taste of dim sum. Customers giving bad reviews no doubt had a bad experience. Was it because of what they particularly ordered? Was service poor on that day that it is always poor? We haven't had similar experiences but as long time customers, we would have to disagree with the nay-sayers. I would say to future customers, read all the reviews here and see what dishes are mentioned as worth eating that you are willing to try should you decide to go. Hopefully, you will and enjoy!

Not going back – Seems like a place that wants to be lots of things but leave a lot to be desired. 1. It’s a Chinese restaurant, but the Chinese food here isn't good, not when compared to Chinatown. 2. Menu has a Peruvian twist, but that's not good either. For Latin flavored dishes, lots of other Latin restaurants in the city just bring your taste buds alive, some Latin-Asian fusion places even have waiters who speak both Chinese and Spanish and awesome fusion food. Not at Red Egg.

3.This place aspires to be more hip and trendy than your usual Chinese restaurant but just doesn’t get the job done. Décor is a little weird and the lighting is a bit dark, but not in a sexy, hip way. I love trendy but I'm going to walk a few blocks in the opposite direction of Chinatown and go to the truly hip and trendy bars and restaurants in Soho. 4. Going to spend my mula somewhere else.
