It's elegant, cool, sexy, slightly out of the way, and has a hell of a selection of Italian wines and cured meats. A perfect first-date spot.

Terrible service on new years – I have been to Zampa before and had a good experience but the service and food on New Years for what I paid ($120 for just myself) was atrocious. The manager (short, bald) was serving us. If you can call it that. It was like torture trying to find him to have him pour us wine or get drink orders. Our food came out in batches so half of our party would get served a main course and then 10 minutes later the other half would get served. The Tuna shamini didnt taste like anything but the lamb was pretty good. I would have liked anything at that point as they didn't serve us the main course until after midnight. We got there at 9:30. The manager/waiter dissapeared well before that and never took our desert order which was included in the fixed price dinner. We finally got 1 desert for all 13 of us which was a soggy bread pudding. Not good at all. Then it took another hour for the bill to come which was wrong. They charged us for all of the deserts (13 when we only got 1) and then charged us for another person on top of that. While this is a good neighborhood spot for a drink, I would never recommend it for a special occasion or if you're with more than 1 or 2 people. the manager stinks, was totally oblivious, went on to DJ (not very good at that) and just leave his poor staff to apologize to us in horror and embarassment.

One of my favorite local spots! – I live very close to this place and absolutely love it. It is very small but very cute and all the staff there are lovely. The plates are all relatively small but very tasty - I think they have some of the best tomatoes of any restaurant in NYC. Such a great and reliable spot.

Loud - but Good Food and Service – Zampa is the type of place that stops you in your tracks when passing by. At night, it looks warm, glowy and candle lit - buzzing with patrons, and very inviting from the sidewalk. Be warned, however, that all that wonderful buzz from the other side of the plate glass translates into unbelievable noise on the inside. The white brick wall, wood details and uber-cool light fixtures make a very nice backdrop for snapping Facebook photos, but a lousy muffle for the waves of cackle and screech coming from the bar and tables all around. That, however, is the only complaint, and it might actually be a huge plus to anyone preferring an energetic scene. I was seated at - and would recommend asking for - the table closest to the window. The food and service were both terrific - and there were nice little surprises on the menu like an individual cassoulet that was piping-hot and layered with deliciousness. Our table of four very picky eaters all left happy - if a little hard of hearing.

A Great Find... – Zampa was a charming surprise, just at the cusp of the West Village and tucked away from the bustle of 8th Avenue. The first thing that struck me was the customer service - one can always find a great meal and great ambiance in Manhattan, but excellent customer service is a much more difficult find. The owner, Anthony, treats his patrons as if they were guests in his own home, which is what sets Zampa apart from countless other wine bar/restaurants. The wine was excellent, the cheese was outstanding and the small plates were fresh and satisfying. With a romantic ambiance and impeccable service, this little place is now in my weekly rotation!
