Za or Czar? – If the pizza was as good as they say it is, I might abide by Estes rules that are as strict as the Kremlin's and as ridiculous as Utah liquor laws. I get the no pineapple thing, but not allowing a customer to eat their pizza in certain way is down right ludicrous. Three examples:
--A friend ordered Ranch dressing with her Pizza. Though it is on the menu, she was denied as "that's not how you eat pizza in New York." So she ordered a salad instead with Ranch. The owner dumped a gallon of vinegarette on the salad instead and then refused to take it back, even though that is not what she ordered (it was a salad and ranch was on the menu. Please!)
--The no fork thing is the most discriminatory aspect of this restaurant. While the forks are out in plain sight, you cannot eat your pizza with a fork or you will be asked to leave. A friend of mine has a mental disability and cannot touch food with his hands. He tried to explain that he needed a fork due to medical reasons, and the clerk still refused. Since he couldn't eat the pizza with his hands, he asked for his money back and was denied.
--If the disabled don't convince you, how about a three year old. My son eats all his food cut up in little bites with a fork. Even he was denied a fork. It was downright sad to see him struggle with his little hands to lift a giant greasy slice to his mouth only for it to fall. I asked for a fork for him and was denied. "He has to learn sooner or later," I was told by the clerk. When I asked for my money back, I was told no. We left, my son hungry and crying all because they refused to let him use a fork with his meal. I'm pretty sure prisoners in Guatanamo get to eat with forks.
The "Soup Na(t)zi" on Seinfeld was meant as a joke. Estes is proving to the be the same, the only difference is that the "Soup Na(t)zi" was fictional.
If you want really good NY Pizza, go to Big Apple, where the chef's been doing it forever and cares about customer satisfaction.
The best worst pizza and service ever – Este pizza is the best pizza ever, however it's never consistent. Your pizza might be good. If it s*cks dont tell the staff because they wont give a sh*t. I ordered a beer one time and it took the arogant t*rd behind the counter 13.5 minutes to bring it to me. There were only two other people in the place too. What the hell was he doing? So come on Dave (owner) get some quality folks who can stick to your recipes and provide some service and maybe just maybe I'll feel like paying your high prices. Hope this helps, but I'm sure it will just get a snooty sneer from the lazy lumps you employ.
Este: The Best Thing to Happen To Domino's Since Delivery – We were so excited when Este opened a couple years ago--my husband is from NYC and missed good pizza. However, dining at Este has been like a Coney Island rollercoaster. The product varies from visit to visit---once our pizza was sopping with orange grease that had made the crust a soggy mess, and we were told it was due to a new hire who was learning to make pizza (that is OUR problem that WE should pay for??). And we were not offered a new pizza or a discount. We took some time off after that and wondered if it would be any different after the fire. Today we called to order a large one topping and were put on hold while the employee looked up the price. Who works at a pizza place and can't quote the price of a large one topping?? We were told it was $20....Wow! How expensive is flour, cheese, and a couple slices of pepperoni?? Even Lombardi's, NYC's first pizzaria doesn't charge this much! We are also tired of the attitude from the staff---it is clear they are trying to create an East-coast atmosphere, but back there people have attitude because they are proud of their product, it is a family tradition, and they know that they do it right. In NYC, you have a 60 year old Italian who has been doing this his whole life constructing your pie with care, not tattooed white trash who just want their smoke break out behind the dumpster.
The only place for Pizza in the City!!! – I know a lot of people here believe in god... and now ...so do I! I started praying for this place thirteen years ago! If you are from back east ..it's like going home. Go here, and dont bother with anywhere else unless your taste for pizza has been tainted from growing up around Utah pizza...if thats your story well..I'm praying for ya!
Good NY style pizza – Congrats to Este on its 2 year anniversary. Unpretentious NY style pizza parlor with well made and reasonable pies. We especially like the sausage pizza.
i wish i owned this place so i could eat there constantly – this is hands down the best pizza i have ever had in my entire life. even just a cheese pizza tastes so amazing! if you want a new food to be addicted to, eat the garlic knots!! the marinara sauce is so incredible that i actually eat it plain if there is any left. go get a slice at lunch for only TWO DOLLARS!! that's the cheapest lunch i have found in salt lake city, and it is the best tasting. the employees are great, and the atmosphere is awesome. there always seems to be baseball on when i go in. i will never eat at another pizza place as long as este stays open.
Our favorite pizzaria in town! – We love this place for pizza! You get a great price for the tastiest pizza, and they have sooooo many toppings to choose from. The staff is always friendly and accomodating. We love to call ahead and carry-out our pizza.
Great NY style pizza, very close to the real thing! – My wife and I know pizza - born and raised in NY. We have searched high and low, sampled everything labeled "NY Style" in SLC - this is surely in the top 3. Great crust, sauce that's not too sweet, and no pineapple! Slices during the week - how can you go wrong!? Staff was friendly and service was quick - even on a busy Saturday.
One note: the restuarant is very small with limited inside seating.
