Perhaps the city's best independent comic book shop peddles rare and captivating works of all kinds. – In Short
The fantastic window displays--initially a giant, 3-D magma-colored hand descending upon fleeing 2-D cartoon people and animals--hint at the quirkily tasteful and eccentric environment inside. Browsing through the shop is like taking an intimate whirlwind tour of everything independent comics has to offer: From classics of the genre like Harvey Pekar's "American Splendor" to more recent work by Gabrielle Bell and Adrian Tomine. Plus, there's an assortment of other intriguing independent books, zines and goods (many created by local artists) including "The Immortals," a collectible card game featuring 20th century artists.
great comics and art books! – this is a small store, covered with art, including a window display that changes periodically, and full of comics, zines, artist's hand-made books, obscure screen prints from france and finland, drawings, collage, etc. they also carry the mainstream stuff, the classics, and books for kids. the owner is super nice and helpful.
