EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED!!! DO NOT GO FOR FACIAL – Yesterday was my second time visiting Hiatus Spa + Retreat; the first time I got a massage and yesterday I received a facial. I got the plant peel which was recommended by the person I spoke with on the phone. Needless to say, I was not pleased with the results. This is said to be one of the spas "most popular" facial and I am unsure as to why. I woke up this morning with really dry skin and inflammation where the aesthetician had done manual extractions.
Before the facial got started I specifically explained to her that extractions do not do well with my skin type and how I've had problems in the past with scarring. She assured me that we wouldn't do anything drastic and everything was fine. I also told her that the use of the extractor tool (or whatever the proper name for it is) would be fine as sometimes the manual extractions may do more damage. She said she would stick with the manual and use the tool if necessary. Upon leaving last night my face was slightly red and puffy mostly where she'd performed the extractions. I didn't say anything because I figured it would be fine in the morning. It is not. In my line of work my face is incredibly important as it's the first thing people see. I am now walking around with MORE blemishes on my face than I'd originally come in with. It's incredibly upsetting as I also dance at a studio and can not wear makeup, so I am forced to display a face with spots from the extractions.
I have been to plenty of spas and gotten many facials. This by far was the biggest letdown. As I previously stated, I'd been to Hiatus before for a massage and had a pleasant experience and was expecting the same from the facial. I was wrong. $139 is quite high to come away no better off, matter of fact- WORSE- than when you came. I would not recommend this spa for a facial to any of my friends or clients.
We are very sorry for your experience- I believe our Director has been in touch with you and has scheduled a follow-up appointment with our lead esthetician tomorrow. This is the first time we have heard of an issue like this with the perfecting plant facial- it is always so gentle. Extractions are another thing- everyone has a different reaction and we will do whatever we can to help remedy the situation. Your skin should always look better when you leave than when you arrived! I am glad to hear your first experience was good- we will do our best to improve your overall impression of Hiatus. We strive for superior service and would like to see you again! Best, Kristin
Great Experience – My husband surprised me for my bday by getting me a facial and other spa treatments here.
I LOVED ALL the SERVICES I received there, esp. the FACIAL. my esthetician was AMELIA and she was amazing. she was very thorough in what she was doing. she examined my skin first and explained to me what she was going to do. she was very professional and fun!
I am definitely GOING BACK for facials , main's , pedi's and massages! I had an excellent experience and I dont want to go anywhere esle.
Love, Love, Love Hiatus – I've been a member for almost 3 years, meaning I have frequented the spa more than 30 times. EVERY experience has been incredible and the staff, ownership including, has been courteous and professional.
I can't recommend that Hiatus facial enough! Oh, and do yourself a favor and enjoy the Zero-Gravity chair for a mani/pedi.
Happy 3rd Anniversary, Hiatus! Thanks for bringing peace and relaxation to my life!!!
Well thank you, CarleeJane, for the very kind words- and we're so glad you've tried the new Mani-Pedi Retreat- we're partial to it ourselves! We turn three in December and are planning a fabulous open house on December 3rd. Stay tuned and thank you for being an H-Circle member since the beginning! : ) See you soon.
Good Services, Pathetic Owner – I got a Groupon for Hiatus and finally got to use it (almost impossible to schedule an appointment). The providers who work at Hiatus, all independent contractors, are pretty good. The owner is a complete mess. She was almost certainly drunk when I arrived and my provider apologized over and over for her behavior.
Neither of the spa's owners would ever considering coming to work after drinking an alcoholic beverage. And, all of our service providers are employees.
A Hidden Gem on Lovers Lane – First Impressions:
Although it was not easy to find it turned out to be a great discovery afterwards. Hiatus Spa is located away from the street on the backside of the Lovers Lane mall shopping area. Upon entering you are mesmerized with all the Aveda products and want to look and study each one. The floor and décor are in the soothing green and brown/copper Aveda color scheme. A nice big table is there for you to sit and fill out the treatment profile (done the first time). Refreshing tea and iced lemon water is always present in the front and in the ‘relaxation lounge’. It can be quiet soothing and comfortable inside. No outside noise is heard. With it’s apropos name ‘hiatus’ means retreat, recess or take a break.
The treatment was:
Hiatus Massage with foot wash. It’s a customized massage with the Aveda aromas incorporating Swedish medium to deep tissue massage . It incorporates a foot wash (‘pedilavium’) which is a practice found in hospitality customs of ancient civilizations. I thought the whole experience was quite soothing and refreshing at the beginning and at the end I left invigorated.
Core services: massage, facials, body polish, wraps. The extras: hot stones (my favorite!), hydrotherapy (Hiatus has one of the few Vichy Shower treatment rooms in Dallas), steam canopy treatments and waxing.
H Circle club which is their membership plan to give you basic massage, facials or other services on a monthly basis. Two levels, platinum, gold and their newest one also includes up to four family members. Members receive special pricing for multiple visits and services. Please call or visit for further information.
Spa and wellness go together:
Hiatus Spa has a Master of Chinese Medicine for acupuncture and other complimentary therapies such as allergy elimination and Craniosacral . Keri is well known in the Dallas area for her expertise and longevity in the healing arts.
Soon to come:
They are expanding to include manicure and pedicure stations and a refurbishing of the men’s shower area.
Five Hot Stones for their clean zen-like ambiance, the excellent Aveda products, great management and staff and overall good pleasant experience. Kudos for being forward in reaching out via Social Media.
“Five Hot Stones” is a rating system devised by @MarktheSpaman to indicate something special, worth going to and something of substance (Five Hot Stones) or (One Hot Stone) to stay away from.
Hiatus Heaven – My boyfriend and I went during SpaWeek and I must say I was quite skeptical of a $50 massage. My therapist, Jeff, took me away better than any Calgon could ever do. From the moment we walked through the curtain, I was impressed. The dressing rooms were nicely stocked, nice thick robes, dimly lit waiting rooms, nice soft music playing.... what else can I say? We will definitely be back and I won't think twice about paying full price. Jeff Savell was amazing!
Thank you for your very thoughtful review of Hiatus! Jeff is wonderful- he has an amazing attitude and is a talented therapist. If you enjoyed your SpaWeek treatment, you might want to consider the H-Circle program! You can join for 6 months or 1 year and receive your signature Hiatus core services for $59-69 each. http://www.hiatusspa.com/h-circle.php. Our mantra is SPA OFTEN and we are making that possible with discounted member pricing. We hope to see you and your boyfriend again very soon. And try our new Mani-Pedi Retreat coming July 25. There is a special offer on our profile page at citysearch. Take care!
Dallas Best Spa – You definitely have to book an appointment with Doreen. She is wonderful!!1
Not Impressed – I visited this spa to inquire about purchasing a gift card for my friend. It was very chaotic where the spa's front desk and staff were, yes it was during the holidays- but wow. I had a terrible experience. The manager was very, very rude and had an unprofessional demeanor, as well was showing off a hideous, offensive tattoo to a customer while I was waiting to be helped- where I left because I felt ignored.
Dear Hiatus guest; I am so sorry about the experience you had. I am disappointed to hear about the lack of customer service you experienced and will be touching base with our staff to understand how this could have happened. We are aware that our reception area seems crowded at times. We honestly didn't expect the growth in the business that we've had since opening in '07. We are expanding our spa this summer and bringing in iPads to help with guest check-in. But, what you experienced should never happen and we are embarrassed! Would you please reconsider visiting Hiatus? If you will send me an email at kristin at hiatusspa.com I will circle back with you immediately. My apologies. -Kristin Peabody
Great Facial – My first experience at Hiatus Spa and Retreat was just as my friend had described it - comfortable and fabulous. I had a facial from Andrea and she was a great combination of knowledge and technique. I am enjoying the product she recommended and look forward to my next visit.
Best Facials in Dallas! – I love being a member at Hiatus and have been completely spoiled by my monthly facials with Lindsay Campbell! I never want to go see anyone else! She always has great suggestions for my skin and gives an amazing, relaxing facial. This is the best money I have ever spent on myself. Everyone at Hiatus is always so great to work with, and I feel like I'm in Heaven everytime I get to go visit Lindsay!
