Food not bad but Service is awful – Living in Noe Valley you have a few options for a nice breakfast.
Toast, a modern well designed diner style restaurant serves better than average tastey breakfasts. However after 10 or 11 visits I an confounded at the horrible wait staff. They always seem to be more interested in leaning on counters and talking fervently about there lives vs serving guests. That being said the best visits where when the restaurant was full, when almost no one is there I have waited up to 15 minutes with no coffee or asking me if I was ready for a check, until you are forced to engage the staring at counter until they come over. I have also waited over 10 minutes to get someone to come to my table, even when there is only one other person in the place(or maybe I should say especially when). It is worth it to say the kitchen staff that brings you water and maybe your first beverage is incredibly fast and timely.
If you REALLY want to eat here try to go when it is swamped and the line is out the door on a weekend, the wait staff is much better when they don't have time to talk to each other. If you want to go any other time go to Savor(Great service), La Boulange or another Neighborhood gem.
Good, but not great. – We'd heard it was good, so we went for breakfast. The food was indeed good, and the service was OK, but we waited about 20 minutes for a couple of seats at the counter. Breakfast for two ran us about $35. When we got back to the car, we had a $50 meter violation parking ticket (that extra 20 min. really did us in).
Did we have a nice breakfast? Yes.
Was it great enough to be worth $85 and a 20 minute wait for seats at the counter? Nope.
The second Noe Valley location of this modern but family-friendly breakfast diner serves well-made standards to a stroller-rolling local crowd. – Taking over the space long occupied by the greasy-but-beloved Herb's diner, Toast Eatery is a modern version of the classic breakfast diner (the waitresses may be covered in tattoos, but they still call you "hon'"). Stainless steel walls and a flatscreen tuned to financial news may reflect the changing demographics, or economics, of Noe Valley, but there's nothing hoity-toity about the menu of well-priced classic breakfast dishes, sandwiches, soups and salads. Friendly, quick service combine with take-your-time-with-the-paper encouragment make this a fitting successor to Herb's (to which there is a small/shrine tribute in the back).
