Cupcakes and Beer . . . Enough Said! – Cupcakes and Beer! Are you serious? I've celebrated many a birthdays this way and am so happy to have a place in the West Village to now call home. The cupcake and beer pairings are so awesome. Definitely defer to the staff. The Pure cupcake was my favorite so far followed by the Sweet Revenge, but all are good. Such a fun atmosphere. Great place to hang with your besties or go on a date.
Bad service – After visiting the website, we were disappointed to find how small the shop is. There was no place to sit so we were standing waiting to take leaving patrons' seats.
After the second time of being asked what we wanted from the menu, the woman at the bar asked what we were doing, my foreign friend replied we were waiting on a seat. The woman replied with a "that's not gonna happen" and a grin. She also later questioned us on how many glasses of champagne we ordered although our one friend clearly did not order.
After nibbling at our overly sweet mini cakes, we asked gentlemen an if he would take a photo for us. While I held out the camera, she came in and grabbed the camera from my hand and said "oh no don't ask him, he's a patron." I couldn't believe this woman had just oatronized me this way. Hello, we are patrons too!
We felt immediately uncomfortable and decided to leave. Before leaving, we asked a staff member if she was the owner and it turns out she was.
I found it odd that the owner could have treated us in such a condescending way. It was disappointing, bc even though some may not look the part, we do carry platinum cards. She lost us as customers, we are not going back.
No big deal – I have had better cupcakes. Ordered a drink that was on the menu and bartender said I have no idea how to make that. We haven't made that in two years. Ok take it off the menu. Ordered another drink that was on the menu only to find
out she couldn't find the blender. She made a phone call and they told her the blender is broke and they didn't get another one. Was not impressed, wouldn't waste my time going back. There are two many other great places in the city.
Cute place, but too much packaging – It's a very cute, tiny place, though I wouldn't call the cupcakes "cupcakes," as they're really very rich, small cakes. However, they put the cupcakes in plastic cups when we said yes to "walk and eat." I had thought that that would mean they wouldn't package them, not that they'd make extra waste! So if you want to avoid extra, wasteful packaging, make sure to tell them "no plastic cup!" It also came with a wooden spoon, which was interesting and unusual, but that just created more disposable waste. The "mini cakes" have cute names, and the "Dirty" certainly was chocolatey. They're big enough to share, which explains their $3.50 cost.
Adorable! – Sweet Revenge's dulce de leche cupcake should have its own place in culinary history! Excellent combination of taste, texture and pure delight. Adorable little cupcake destination!
Not just SWEET, deliciously SAVORY as well! – While picking up some cupcakes for a small party tonight, I decided to grab a "Seville" SAVORY CAKE for lunch—and OMFG—it's good. I would eat it for breakfast, lunch, AND dinner! It's the perfect consistency when warm and is full of two of my fave nibbles: chorizo sausage AND manchego cheese. I'll definitely be back for more!
amazing fare! – i stopped by here after strong urging from a friend of mine. always up to try something new and like rest of the city, been very much into the cupcake kick. i bought two that day, crimson velvet and the sweet revenge. WOW. they were so amazingly tasty. i couldn't believe how different these cupcakes were compared to all the well known ones in the city. i also liked the individual cups for takeout. i like to buy lots and find transportation of them can get hairy. i came back the next night to try the pure flavor (mexican vanilla!) and was just as impressed. i recommend this place to anyone who likes good desserts and a great casual atmosphere to grab drinks. i know i'll be coming back often to try all of sweet revenge's fares and libations.
Sweet...Absolutely Sweet !! – To whom it may concern
I am writing to propose a potential tie-in with Daily Candy and Sweet Revenge; a new low-key special treat in the lower west side that accents the cool ambience of the area with its own special flair. My first visit I admit was interesting, I stopped in with a friend to look at the menu and decided to go for dessert somewhere a little more familiar (not really a desert person by the way) so we left, after walking around rhe corner to another neighborhood favorite and hearing my desired carrot cake was taken off the menu, I was disappointed and determined all in the same. My friend decided to seek revenge and we found it, by returning to have one of the cupcakes that we orignally walked away from. Good thing! Because now I have a new favorite spot and after years of only eating my mother's red velvet...the Sweet Revenge Cremson Creme red velvet cupcake is defintiely giving her a run for her money and after I bringing one home to her she even cashed in. This little place is a keeper ! My new favorite little spot just blocks away from my job and on route to home. Its the perfect in between after a long day and the perfect recipe to add to a sweet conversation with friends. Will worry about the revenge on the calories later.
Amazing – I went here for a couple of beers with a friend this week. The decor inside is very cool and makes for a great atmosphere to kick back and chat. There were lots of customers drinking coffee's as well as the great choice of (mainly non domestic) beers.
I bought a selection of cupcakes (4) and was blown away by them. I'm not really into sweet stuff but thought these were perfect. I've (sadly) been ruined on cupcakes by the horrifically overrated Magnolia (thanks SATC) but am glad to say that cupcakes can be done well.
Fantastic addition to the neighborhood!
AMAZING cupcakes - awesome place – I live right around the corner front Sweet Revenge and when I saw that a new cupcake place opened up, I was overjoyed. They have a dulce de leche cupcake, which is my absolute favorite flavor. I ordered one after a bad day at work and it was literally the most delicious cupcake/dessert I have ever eaten. The texture of the cupcake itself, as well as the perfect frosting and caramel center are just delightful.
The owner is really nice and friendly and the rest of the staff seems cool as well. Lots of fun-looking drinks and regular food options, but it seems like the desserts are the biggest part of the menu. If an expanding waistline was not a consequence, I would gladly go eat cupcakes there every day. GREAT addition to the neighborhood!
