Hidden behind Borders bookstore--and right next to seafood favorite Hungry Cat--at the Sunset + Vine plaza may seem like an odd place for an upscale, continental supper club. But the venue made an ideal blank canvas for social-scene trendsetter Ivan Kane (Forty Deuce, Deep), who transformed it into a bi-level boho-chic fantasyland. With its eccentrically papered and exposed-brick walls, antique mirrors, and a dead-end Victorian staircase, the restaurant is a maze of secluded dining nooks. (The main seating area surrounds a revolving grand piano.) Though there's plenty to choose from, food is, unfortunately, an afterthought. Typical French fare in small portions includes starters like fois gras, caviar and garlic-butter escargots; entree highlights are steak frites, duck-leg confit and sole meuniere, while a tasty gratin de macaroni (translation: mac 'n' cheese) can be ordered as a side. That's okay, though. Cliche as it may sound, the real feast here is strictly for the eyes.

Wow I just found my new favorite restaurant. Café was is great….. I went with a large group of friends last Friday, the hostess was very nice sat us quickly; we sat in the room off the piano it is covered in brick and mirrors really cool. The server was ok a little slow but he picked it up a little later. The food is amazing I had the tuna canapé, salad and the filet; I could cut the filet with a spoon soooo tender. My girl got this beautiful crab thing she loved it. Everyone at the table talked about how much they liked all the food. Oh almost forgot about the bread pudding dessert (the best thing I’ve ever had) The chef even comes out of the kitchen and talked to us, he seemed kinda cool. We had a great time and will be back soon Totally recommend!!!!!!!!!!!

So we went to Cafe Was strictly because of the advertised $15 bottomless carafes. When we sat at the bar, the bartender told us we could not share the carafe and would each have to purchase a carafe, and if we dared tried to sneak a drink from the said carafe we would be charged $15. What???!! So it started off pretty much like that...service not on par with the gorgeous room and decor. We did not have anything to eat because we were so bugged by the bartender we decided to bag the whole thing and go to La Boheme, where we were treated like royalty. Note to owners: service is just as important as the food and decor. I'd love to give this place another chance because it truly has a beautiful room and great atmosphere.
