One of the Quincy Market area's most popular bars features plenty of food and drink options, plus live entertainment. – In Short
When the weekend comes, the Purple Shamrock is inundated by college students and bold, young invaders from the suburbs. The bar features live rock and pop music on Friday and Saturday nights, and there's usually a small cover charge. DJs and karaoke (schedules vary) round out the Shamrock's entertainment offerings. The food menu caters to tourists (clam chowder, lobster) and includes the standard sandwiches and apps. Beer aficionados have a dozen-plus taps to choose from.
"The Best Pub in Boston" – I've been visiting Boston since 1978, and been to many places in the Boston area."The best bang for the buck", that's all I can say!
LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK
Excellent – I ate at the Purple Shamrock twice while attending the IAFF Convention, Once on Monday then on Friday. This was the most bang fro the buck all week. I had the lobster dinner both times. The menu price is $15.99 but the special both days was $10.00, it came with fries and cole slaw. The chowder was very good as well as the appetizers. At least before 10:00 I wouldn't hesitate to bring my family that's about the time we left both nights so I don't know about after that. I highly recommend the Purple Shamrock.
Fun at Fanueil Hall. – This place really mixes it up. You can go here, sit down, have a meal and stay afterwords for a few drinks after dinner. Or, you can show up and be at a full fledged dance club. It is a good time no matter what.
Purple is in!! – This place is for the out of towner. If you're not from the city of Boston this place rates in the top five. It has easy acess from all the major trains, busses and cabs. Its close to major atractions and it's an all around cool place to chill. They have live music, usually on weekends and drinks are very reasonable ($3 for a 16oz. generic beer, about $4-$5 for a mixed drink.) Many of the younger crowd is here from the norther suburbs. (Woburn, Lexington, Malden, etc.) If you like a good time at a good price, come here. Crowds start to form around 9ish. This place is worth a try.
Poor Service, High Prices – The Purple Shamrock is, first and foremost, a tourist bar. And since tourists can't become repeat customers, the bar can get away with a rude staff and poor service. And it certainly does. The place is so busy that the ownership can practically print its own money. So there's no incentive to improve. Do yourself a favor and go to the Bell in Hand or Union Oyster House. They still seem to care about their patrons.
