Avoid their dance floor, but enjoy the bar – I heard about Hong Kong from some of my friends, who bragged about the scorpion bowls and dance floor, so I decided to check it out last weekend. They charged $5 at the door, plus another $5 to get upstairs to the "dance floor" which turned out to be a huge disappointment. Upon entering the second floor, I immediately regretted paying $5 to get up there; most people weren't even dancing, the dance space was kinda small and there were hardly any guys on the floor. The DJ was HORRIBLE, spinning mediocre hip hop with only the occasional new/hit song mixed in...he also changed songs way too quickly. Unfriendly staff and creepers stood on the edge of the dancefloor, audibly criticizing people's dance moves and just generally making fun of their customers (which was quite a diverse crowd of people).
However, the downstairs bar scene, though a bit dumpy, had a fun, upbeat, friendly atmosphere. Girls were singing karaoke to the dixi chicks and bon jovi, and the crowd and staff we much friendlier than the upstairs group. The $1 meat on a stick wasn't bad, considering the price, and the scorpion bowls were very enjoyable. I think I would go here again to start off a night of club hopping, but I plan to skip the dance scene at this place and hangout downstairs instead, where everyone seemed more relaxed and friendly.
Homophobic – If you want to go to a homophocic bar....go here!
Spoke about this issues outside and then was not let in...You be the judge, but I will never go back...I am a straight person, but now know how their people judge....
CALLING ALL WHITE TRASH!!!! – You have to be from a trailer park in revere to like this place....
1) The staff and that troll asian owner/manager are disgusting.
2) they have 1 bathroom that smells like a sewer
3) they have a cover that is decent, but then charge you again to go upstairs.
4) after the troll asian four-eyed manaager charges you again to go upstairs, the fat "bouncer" upstairs tells you that you cant be up there (as if its like a VIP area) with a hood on your jacket. Keep in mind my friends hood wasnt on a sweatshiirt, it was a hooded sweater from Marc Jacobs.
5) If you want to go outside to smoke the white trash bouncers make you pounce through the trashy crowd to the little gay coat check guy and leave your ID and get a bracelet before you can go out
6) The manager/owner (ugly Asian lady) must be on something to act like she does. People should go just to see how she acts and handles things. Its HYSTERICAL!. She needs to go back to her own country.
The bartenders on the first floor were super nice and good! Ladies, go somewhere else!!!
THIS PLACE IS HORRIBLE. DO NOT GO HERE!!!!
LAME!!!! – I HATE THE HONG KONG....THEY DONT LET ME WEAR MY LIL WAYNE TEE SHIRT AND ALWAYS THE SAME GIRLS THERE EVERY WEEK....ITS LAME..DONT GO THERE EVER!!!!!
Hey lets get assaulted – Hey If you like being assaulted by the regulars at this bar then go ahead.
Kareoke is a grand time, the scorpion bowls are good too but it doesn't mean anything if the patrons are going to treat you like garbage on the street and the staff doesn't give you the time of day.
Great if you love being over charged and rude staff – It can be fun...if you get there early and stay for only one drink. Otherwise, have fun waiting FOREVER in line, being charged TWICE (once to get in, another to go upstairs!), and trying to wear a jacket inside during winter months (they charge you if your jacket has a hood!). Once this place gets going (around 10 PM) there is no room to move around. Its an extremely small bar, which I'm surprise nobody has mentioned. Also, even though there is 2 floors, there is only one very small, very dirty bathroom n the first floor that you also wait forever to get in to. The "diverse" crowd here isn't unlike any other bar in Fanueil Hall. Mostly just obnoxious college students drinking too much. I'm not sure why everybody keeps saying the scorpion bowls are "cheap". They're 15 bucks a piece and gone not son after you get them. I must say though, they make great drinks and play great music but if you want to save the 10 bucks to get in, the 15 bucks for the scorpion bowls, the money to charge your jacket , the rudest staff, or waiting in line for EVERYTHING, go to any other bar in Fanuiel Hall!!!
Good for first drink! – Never used to charge a cover, now they charge one to get in and one to get upstairs. Its good music, but the seems like the same faces all the time, even though I only go every few months. Good for a first drink before going elsewhere.
Great bowls but they double swiped my credit card – Had a great time until I came home to find that they had charged me twice while there. The amount in question was a huge tab, and it took weeks to straigthen it out with my banlk. I don't think the staff is very trustworthy!!!
that other user is lying or doesnt know the whole story! – i was at the HK the day of this situation and your friend was rude and obnoxious towards the bartender and deserved to get thrown out... i saw this with my own eyes, and i saw you try and get in front of your friend when it was time for him to leave....im a doorman on landsdowne and if someone gets in my way when im trying to throw you out then you must also be part of the problem.
your wrong and if there is any place that serves dollar sticks of chicken, and cheap drinks then i would like to know.. bt u cant talk bad about this place because one bad experience.
sooo much bang for the buck – chicken for 1$ , beef for 1.50! scorpion bowls.. what a crazy place. i had such a good time there .. the crowd is the most diverse i have ever seen. downstairs you got a huge melting pot of people.. college, afterwork, etc listening to rock and pop music,. and upstairs you got the urban crowd dancing to hip hop.. ! what a mix .. definetly the place to go!
