I won't forget the only time I was there! – Mexican food it is not really my favorite. A friend of mine invited me a thousand to go to this Mexican restaurant. We went on a quite busy night, but the service was very friendly. Our server recommended the carne assada and the sea bass. I had the carne assada and just loved it. Now I can't wait to go back there to try their sea bass. The manager came by to check on us and I liked that very much. I go out for dinner a lot and that's not really usual. he was funny and enthusiastic. I can't remember names but the waitress was a beautiful girl, she mentioned that she was an actress. The manager had a Mexican name but he was American, awesome guy!
Awesome Experience! – Get ready for an experience in Mexican Cuisine unlike anything you've ever had before.
I had 3 courses at Mucho in Manhattan Beach and each bite I took gave me that ecstatic sensation. Everything about each dish--the sauces, the aromas, the textures, the flavors...just captivated me! "O-My!" Don't believe me? GO to Mucho and enjoy the food for yourself! Get there early to reserve your spot OR call in advance to secure reservations!
Welcome to one of the BEST gourmet Mexican restaurants in the LA Area. YES! YES! YES! This is coming from a picky Latina who loves homestyle Mexican food. Well, imagine all the authentic recipes you're familiar with--perfected and presented in a sensually stimulating way! Add years of culinary expertise from Executive Chef Chris Garasic, plus years of successful business experience from restaurateur Mike Zislis (RockNFish, Shade Luxury Hotel...) and you have a fine restaurant putting out quality Mexican dishes that will TANTALIZE all of your senses!
I enjoy ALL different types of cuisine and I don't compare one restaurant to another because each restaurant should be a unique experience! This is Mexican Cuisine with a California Flair! Mucho is just blocks from the Beach!
Centrally located on Manhattan Avenue, Mucho Ultima Mexicana is the perfect destination for a date, a night out with friends, or any occasion to Dine Well! Two large doors are rolled up, opening the restaurant's two east-facing walls. The open-air section of the restaurant is a great spot to sit and enjoy a game on the large flat screen mounted on the wall. Glass panels separate the front room from the rest of the dining room which boasts gorgeous semi-private booths as well as tables and a central lounge area. The bar is large, and a great place to mingle and socialize with the fun Manhattan Beach Crowd. Golden pendant lights hang from the dark ceiling, creating a pleasing, warm, and inviting ambiance which is soothing to the eyes! As soon as the lights dim and the fresh Margaritas are shaken and poured, the place oozes sexiness!! The bar is one of the most impressive I've seen (and I've seen a lot of high end lounge bars). This one is top Five. The glowing wall holds over 180 different types of Tequila from Silver to Añejo!
They are open late, and a DJ arrives around 10 on the weekends. My only complaint: that the night had to end!
I must quickly address some of the negative review comments:
*Prices -- extremely reasonably priced for such fine dishes. No, this is not a "cheap" joint. (I honestly think it is unfortunate that reviews with NO SUBSTANCE are lowering the "Stars" awarded to Mucho!)
*Service -- excellent, friendly, relaxed even though the place was super busy! (May i also add: HOT! The hostesses, servers, bartenders, and Chef are gorgeous, always smiling, and very helpful & considerate!)
*Portion Sizes -- this is not the type of place that serves tons of Rice and Beans to take up your plate (and skimp on the good stuff). Each dish is carefully plated and presented beautifully!
good drinks, horrible dining experience – We dined here this past weekend and it was a nightmare. Most of the items on the menu were already sold out (it was only 8:30). This happens everytime. They were out of the appitizer, main course and dessert we ordered. I wonder if this place is on it's way out and not bringing in enough food on weekends to feed their customers?? The manager came by our table and was very unprofessional (and was dressed like a typical "single guy on the prowl"). Managers should dress the "part" and not wear jeans and unbuttoned shirts. Clearly he was upset that he had to work on a saturday night! He didnt solve any problems, only made the situation worse by arguing with the guys at my table. He even followed us out the door when we left to continue the argument. I was really embarressed as we were on a social/business dinner. Do not eat here. Drinks are great, but you can get drinks anywhere. This place needs to go.
Good margaritas, great location, POOR dining experience! – I've had a good experience here 1 time out of 4. Good place for drinks, but if you want to eat, the hostess will tell you it's an hour wait (but you'll really wait about 30 min). The majority of their income is clearly made through the bar if they're discouraging diners. $13 margaritas...very good though. Make sure you ask if they have tortillas before you order dinner because, per the host, they run out of tortillas frequently on weekend nights....even though they make the tortillas in-house. Lazy chefs? Overall, a poor dining experience, but great drinks. Good waiter.
Desperately Seeking A Desperate Saturday Night? Then this is the place for you. – Only a few hours ago myself and a few girlfriends were in this noisy, overpacked restaurant/lounge for a birthday evening out. At 7:30 we showed up, were told it would be an 1.5-2 hours wait. The birthday girl wanted to stay so we put our name on the list and went to the 'lounge' (bar). The short story is we never got seated, the place was packed to the gills with desperate, drunken single types and the restaurant seemed understaffed. Eventually we secured a spot at the bar where the bartenders were friendly and attentive. We ordered food, which was really quite awful (and I'm not super picky). The hot food was served cold and the cold food served room temperature. Yuck. I won't be back.
Very overpriced, slow service, very loud venue – While the chips and salsa were good, the food we were served was average and cold by the time it got to us. We had a very large party and everyone felt the same about the food. The prices are outrageous for what you get, the food here is not special, pretty much El Torito quality, for two to three times the price. The drinks were good but equally expensive. The venue is very trendy but small and extremely loud if you go with more than one other person it is hard to have a conversation. If I go back it will be for chips and drink....
Good Mexican. – I have read so many negative reviews on the web about this place, but I have always had a great experience there. The service is good, staff friendly, and the place is cool and comfortable. The steak fajitas are mazing, and while the food is pricey, it truly is excellent Mexican.
What a meal – We started off with the Guac, the best ever. The traditional margarita was the best I ever had. If you like salt they use a gourmet salt on the rim. Carne Asada was to die for, the tortillas are made to order. They make both corn and flour tortillas on their own comal.
Chic seaside Mexican restaurant serves up many carefully crafted drinks and serious Mexicali food. – Shade Hotel and Rock 'N Fish owner Mike Zislis has created yet another downtown Manhattan Beach hot spot, this time with Mexican food. While traditional south-of-the-border favorites stand strong all over town, this "ultimate Mexican" food joint has taken a slightly different route. With terrace seating, room for over 100 and endless kinds of tequila, this posh, dimly-hued restaurant is not where South Bay residents order the usual bean and cheese burrito. Filet mignon with polenta, hand-crafted margaritas made with a 1 1/2 ounce pour of tequila and two- to three-dish Mexican plates served with guacamole highlight the detailed menu that has more mouthwatering drinks than any bar nearby. For a taste of the best of what Mexico and California together have to offer, this beachside locale offers it up with style ... and plenty of alcohol.
