Briccos is a wasted of time and money – I was extremely disappointed with Briccos Italian Restaurant located in the North End of Boston. The service was poor, first the waiter asked if we wanted tap or bottled water and we answered bottled several times and he proceeded to pour us tap water. then the main server came and we asked her to explain 2 of the pasta dishes sauces that we were ordering and she unable to clarify anything. The seafood pasta claimed to have scallops, shrimp, fish and chefs choice seafood, other than a large scallop on top, the dish had very little seafood and what there was I found horrid. The scallop was gritty, the fish was almost non-existant and the shrimp was non-existent. The pasta was a overcooked and the dish itself was so salty it was inedible. My husband unfortunately ordered another dish that disappointed as well, the rigatoni with meatballs. The dish at first glance looked interesting, but the raw pasta noodles stuck in a "drum" of rigatoni was juvenile as well as inedible. The only thing accurate about the dish was the word drum because that is what The fried outside of the pasta tasted like. The meatballs were not balls at all but half round mounds of meat split in two on the plate. The service was incredibly weak. My husband and a I looked forward to a nice meal and instead felt we wasted $80.
Bricco Rocks – So I went to Bricco for the first time on Wednesday evening. It was a party of 20; business type dinner. I had been to my fair share of North End restaurants and some were great, some good, and others were not for me. This one is my new favorite. The staff was courteous. The service was crisp and swift. The food was excellent. Granted, it's always about picking the right meal. Anyway, our waitress, Kate, was the one who actually picked our appetizers for us. We got some traditional faves such as Prosciutto and Caprese. No way to screw that up. But the kicker was these other two: Octopus and Zucchini flowers. I especially loved the ricotta-tempura. It was awesome. We had a nice red ordered by the head poobah at the table. I'm not much of a wine critic, so I'll leave it to the experts. But the dish I ordered, Bricco's Brodetto. Let's just say I was full and wanted another one. I can't wait to go back. I loved the atmosphere, the layout, the food, the staff. I even killed about 15 minutes of the manager's, Nick, time gushing over his restaurant. Some things just have to be said.
A scam that masquerades as a restaurant – This has to be one of the biggest con jobs in Boston. We just happened upon it and it appeared to be a cozy little restaurant. Family of 4, two children. Ordered a main course and an appetizer which the waiter said was a house special. No alcohol. Bill? Close to $250. Just shocking! I only wish there was a way of warning people never to allow themselves to get suckered in to this scam that masquerades as a restaurant.
Food? Reasonable but never for that price. Stay away!
overrated – Plain and simple: the food is great, but we literally felt like we were sitting on top of the couple next to us. The prices were outrageous, honestly nothing to write home about. Not to mention not only have I seen but I have also heard on numerous occasions of their pest problem due to open aired seating. I would like to know what the kitchen looks like if I can see the pests on the dining room floor!
Major Rip-off – This is the worst restaurant I've eaten at in greater Boston. Not alone that, it's a huge rip-off. If you're foolish enough to dine there, please make sure you look at the price of everything on the menu as well as the wine list. The waitstaff are scam artists, the food is bad (think uncuttable meat) and the ambience is non-existent.
This is the kind of place that once-in-while suburban diners get suckered into visiting. I'd give this ZERO stars if it were an option.
We felt fleeced. – Bricco is big on presentation but the food is mostly very ordinary. None of us were happy with the entrees. Only one of the 3 appetizers was particularly good. We were a party of 6 including a friend from France who knows wines who took charge of ordering wine. The wine list starts at $42 and goes to over $2300. When our Frenchman asked for a bottle from the lower end of the spectrum, he was told that there was only one bottle left with the waiter pausing as if he should order something else. Our Frenchman humorously said then we shall drink your last bottle. When ordering appetizers which we intended to share, our waiter ominously steered us into ordering 6 after trying to get us to order 9. 6 was too much with everyone having an entree and the appetizers cost almost as much as the entrees. Their prices are expensive and the quality is just not there. This is a place to completely avoid.
Dont even bother!!! – Why this restaurant is rated so high I will never understand. Everything that has been said about the service is exactly true. Aside from being threatened by the bartender and ignored all night by our waitress, the valet lost our keys and it took them 30 mins to find them and bring the car around.
Food was nothing to write home about and if you consider the price, its just not worth it. I've had better bar food.
Please do yourself a favor and go to another place.
Current Employee.. – December 24, 2007 - Bricco is notorious for forging its own reviews. The service here is average and the food is average for this area. They are notorious for hiring illegals and boarding them with subpar wages. You will also be hard pressed to find a minority couple in this restaurant since it is well-known that they are not welcome and the food is rumored to be , let's say, tainted if you do dine. The drinks are not bad but for a great meal with charm in the north end; you are better off with a place like the lovely Cantina or Strega. :)
Disappointing, Snobbish Service – I was visiting Boston and had one night to enjoy cuisine in the famed North End. We chose Bricco from several recommended restaurants, but I was largely disappointed. We were told a 30 min wait time, yet there were many open tables and the restaurant was never full the entire time we were there. The waiter was very snobbish and inattentive, with a continual air that our meal was keeping him from something much more important.
The food was nice but the very poor service ruined the experience. If you are considering Bricco, choose one of the many other options in the area. I definitely wish we had.
Overrated – Bricco had been on my list of "mst try's" for a while and this week I had the opportunity to dine there with a friend. It was a busy night and the atmosphere is lively, if a bit noisy for a conversation with my companion. We ordered the mezzaluna with roasted chicken and sausage for a starter, which came nicely presented on two plates. Where things took a turn was with the entree - we both decided to try the pork tenderloin, recommended by the server, and what we received reminded me of grey potroast. The loins were tough, with a consistent grey color all the way through the meat as if it had been boiled. The dish was described as having a hazelnut crust, but the only "crust" consisted of what appeared to be random sprinkels of hazelnut dust on the plate. The dish was served with an overy large mound of pickled red onion concoction, along with a small portion of uninteresting gnocchi. From preparation to presentation, this is one of the worst meals I've ever been served in Boston. We dine at high end restaurants on a regular basis throughout New England and this is nothing like we've ever experienced. I've eaten better meals at mediocre diners. The "replacement" pasta we were served after sending the meat back isn't worth mentioning. Bottom line, if this the consistent quality of Bricco's offerings, skip it. The food lacks thought and soul - it's more of a place to be seen than to enjoy real food.
