used to be good.
My husband and i used to visit several times a month for several years. Then last year we stopped going (for no good reason). Then last month, we visited (Sept 2008) and were disappointed.
The food was OK but not worth the price, the menu has changed substantially, the service was HORRIBLE (not busy, yet it took forever to be helped, served), and our credit card was overcharged (which we only discovered AFTER our statement came...and trust us, we gave a respectable tip even though the service was not so). Clearly, we will not be returning.
Not the best coffee, best pizza. The coffee tasted a bit watered down, but I have never had better sicilian pizza!!!!!! They make good pastries too. While the menu prices scare me a bit, its very possibly worth it.
Great Location, Decent Food. My sister and I went out to this restaurant for lunch shortly after moving to Boston and finding it in my neighborhood. The location is great, on a very cute street with fantastic boutique shops, (they close early though!) The menu was pretty standard, tasty looking. We left satisfied, but a little disappointed with the slightly chewy, subpar focaccia bread. Overall, a nice experience for the everyday meal. Im sure we'll be back.
Great Weekend Brunch. I love this place for a quick, affordable, fresh brunch. It has a small menu, but everything is great! Wonderful bread, fresh fruit and because you order at the counter, service is pretty fast. Their stuffed french toast and the toast topped with marscapone, fruit and honey are phenomenal. I prefer this to nearby Paramount anyday.
An enjoyable and reasonable place to get a healthy bite while observing the world on Charles Street..
In Short
Order at the counter and the staff brings big, beautiful plates to your cafe table. This handsome Charles Street bakery's outstanding breads are the basis for light meals all day. Sandwiches (panini), soups and bruschetta are the main midday choices. The panini are dense with meat (try the grilled chicken with Roma tomatoes, romaine lettuce and lemon-pepper mayo on fresh focaccia). At night, hearty pasta and chicken dishes top the tables.
Great food.. Visited 3 times: Oct 2005, Feb 2006, June 2006. Loved each time. Had salmon prepared differently each time - always great. My family stops by the pastry counter to pick out dessert before we sit and look at the menu. Will be there again whenever I visit Boston.
Busy and full of attitude. Was looking forward to a neighborhood brunch....instead walked in to a dingy looking place, where you order at the counter and food is brought to a table IF there is a free one. If not, you are out of luck. We ordered and waited, excited about the strawberry, banana and blueberry frenchtoast...however, they brought it without blueberries and bananas b/c they had run out at 12pm!!! When I asked for a manager in order to discuss why we were not told this when we ordered, and maybe order something else, this is what I got in reply. 'You can't eat the french toast w/o those fillings? I think that is ridiculous!'. Enough said.
Don't miss it if you're in Boston.
It's hard not to love this place if you enjoy food - between the various (large) sandwiches, changing (daily) delicious soups, changing baked breads and pastries, large delicious salads, decent espresso drinks, and fantastic weekend brunch items, I'm just waiting for my membership to kick in.
Panificio is fantastic because things are always fresh - if you have a chance you should go.
Chixn taragon salad or the Cubano sandwich - a must.
8 man 21 gun salute. This restaurant has it all, great food, good spirits and everything is baked daily!
8. great value and good food but best avoid rush hour in the evenings as service quality drops when the get busy. cosy with nice crowd.
