Patio. Yes, I said Patio – So, Grand Canal is your typical sports bar. Its near the Garden and lots of other sports pub type places on Canal Street. Nothing to necessarily write home about, right? Oh, my dear, so wrong.

Grand Canal has a ridiculous patio that makes it SO much better than your typical sports bar. Who cares if the food is average pub fare when you can sit on their $$ deck and bask in the sunshine? The drinks are priced average for the area and they’ve got a decent beer selection. Bonus: for some reason this bar is never as crowded as the other Canal street haunts on game days so you can soak up some sun, get your booze on, and still make it to your game on time.

Eh... – Maybe it was an off day for the employees here, the day I came in with a group of co-workers.

In short, I ordered a round of tap beers and upon a first sip, six of us looked around and had the 'bitter beer face.' It tasted as if the beers were half vinegar.

When presented to the bartender, he gruffly responded 'trust me, they're fine.'

My supervisor, the easiest going guy in town, pushed his beer away and stated 'that might be the worst beer i've ever had.' When asked for a new round of bottled beer, the bartender rolled his eyes and got them.... later, when the tab came out, he still charged for the nasty beers we all gave back.

The deck is nice though.

Great summer bar for a relaxed Friday cocktail. Unique decor/ambiance. – Went here for a few drinks after work on Friday. The bartender was very nice and the prices were average for a downtown bar ($6-$8 for a cocktail). The Grand Canal is decorated in a sort of southern "bayou" style mixed with your typical Boston/Italian flavor (a bizarre combination but it works). The bar's front windows open up on pleasant evenings and it makes for a great open/airy feeling. The deck out back is ample, although it does look onto the BigDig tunnel surfacing at the Leonard Zakim Bunker Hill bridge. In terms of dress code, I wore shorts and flip flops with a collared shirt with no problem. Typical Boston pub/bar attire will let you blend in just fine.

Best spot for a 30th – I just had a surprise 30th birthday party for my husband last week at The Grand Canal.. We reserved the upper loft had a small buffet and cocktails as well. The staff was professional and curtious, the entertainment was GREAT.

After reading another users comments about the owner being rude. I find the story hard to believe. I met the owner that night and he seemed like the utmost proffesional. Unfortuatley for that user, it sounds like they may have ran into a typical "Meathead" that sometimes slither their way into finer establishments in this city. I have worked in the area for the last 5 yrs and it seems as though it has been running very smooth long before I got there.

I am one customer that will be sure to go back and with friends. Thanks guys keep up the good work

Lofty Irish pub offers an authentic, welcoming atmosphere and plenty of drink options. – The Scene
Upon entering this Somers pub (Hennessy's, Kennedy's, etc.), patrons are greeted with stylish, comforting touches like floor-to-ceiling windows, huge fans and bronze sculptures. Since the bar sits between the Financial District, North Station and Faneuil Hall, expect a healthy cross-section of patrons, including corporate after-work types, pre- and post-game sports fans and couples out for a designer drink like the black martini (gin and blackberry brandy).

The Draw
Cathedral-high ceilings fend off the packed-sardine feel common to smaller Irish pubs, making this a great place for large gatherings. Sports fans gravitate toward attractive plasma TVs and snack on a varied menu of upscale pub fare (lobster cocktail, bangers and mash). Drinking your way through the beer list may take more than a few outings--more than 35 ales, stouts and pilsners are served. Younger crowds arrive on weekend nights for an upbeat dance scene that's fueled by live bands.

What a find... – I actually never went here until my haidresser (right next door) ordered some food from here for lunch, of course getting a full highlight can make a girl hungry so I ordered to. The food was awsome, the take out service was quick & the price was right. I find myself making excuses to head down canal street just to eat there!!

Grand Finale – This place had the best Bloody Mary! The food was great and since it was the last place we went to after hitting about 7 places before hand, it was great to sit back and relax near the open windows!

Very fun! – Amongst the many choices on Canal Street, The Grand Canal offers an unique option....the open windows that help keep the atmosphere exciting, and the good food - and drink - to help keep the crowds coming in!

All of which add up to a lively - and sometimes loud! - experience!

In the mood for a fun night out, and want to be surrounded by people in the same mood? Then head to Grand Canal!
