I booked with Life Booker today for a regular cut and blow out. Jamie was my stylist and I cannot say enough good things about her! She listened and was really attentive to what I said I wanted, made suggestions based on my questions -but did not push products or other services at all. Which made me feel much more comfortable to ask about further styling. She worked meticulously on my hair and I could tell she was very serious about giving it 100% of her efforts- which she totally did, b/c I LOVED my hair cut afterwards. Also, she was very easy to chat with while she cut my hair and wasn't obnoxious, nosy or inappropriate at all.
It was an absolute pleasure from start to finish to have Jamie work on my hair and I will definitely go back and would HIGHLY recommend her for a complete experience. I know she also does color, which I couldn't do this time b/c I was on my lunch break, but definitely would try it with her.
Bad Loot – Hideous experience! I got this as a deal on Lifebooker, but these people pulled a classic bait & switch with me. This was supposed to be a full highlights, cut & Moroccan Oil treatment, but all I got was a partial highlight, cut and a sub for the Moroccan Oil that was "just as good". The stylist first of all did not have a clue about hair color, just stared blankly as I tried to explain what I wanted, which were simply light red highlights. Then she tells me I had to pay $45 more since I needed a glaze because otherwise the color would not come out evenly. The manager(?) was called over at my request and told me the same thing, supposedly because of the color or condition (neither specified) of my hair, neither of which was looked at closely at all by this point. They sweetly compromised by only giving me a partial with someone who seemed to be a little more experienced. Of course I still walked out of there looking like a creamsicle! Huge waste of money!!!! At least the cut didn't suck, but my bangs are a little too short. I am on my way to the beauty supply to dye over this orange scare-hair. Yikes. By the way only gave it 1 star because this thing wouldn't let me submit without. Really negative stars.
Jason is wonderful – I purchased a highlight deal on lifebooker. The person that I was suppose to be seen by (tall, heavyset woman with short white hair) took one look at me and said "I don't know why she is sitting there, she is not my client." She went to the front desk and looked back at me in horror as they told her that she was to highlight my hair. I have soft, naturally curly hair, but I had thoughtfully flat ironed my hair to make it easier for the stylist. She argued with the front desk person for a few minutes and then went to the back while loudly saying "that is not my client." The front desk guy came over and very kindly told me that there was a mix up and someone would be right with me. Next, I had my head in a magazine when another woman came over and said hello. I looked up at her and smiled and said hi. Immediately, she realized that I was latin she let out a disappointed "Oh" and walked away. It was so incredibly rude and I was sure someone was about to butcher my hair. Lucky and thankfully, in stepped JASON! He was sweet and charming and gave me the best highlights ever. He spoke to me about products and gave me a lot of useful tips. He is a true perfectionist and worked my hair into an amazing long layered cut. While the Moroccan oil was being rinsed from my hair the white-haired woman told Jason "tell her the magic shop is downtown", implying that my hair needed a miracle. Regardless of her insults, my hair turned out impeccable : ) It seems that I found the magic shop after all. Jason is an artist and he worked his magic on me.
Very good highlights... – I am picky about highlights, went to the same place for years. On Saturday I went to Nikki & she was very good.
I will go back happily!!
Good work, but salon could use a management change/makeover – Honestly, this salon has some great stylists. Galyna does excellent highlights. But the place is often chaotic and overcrowded, which can make for a very stressful and unpleasant experience. The salon is very small (and sort of dingy, once you get past the clean minimalism and orchids at the front desk), and you feel like you're all on top of one another - customers being worked on, customers waiting, stylists, and all. Also, the owner is very rough around the edges and comes off as abrasive at times, which is hard to overlook. Overall, the work is good and the stylists themselves are great, but in terms of a general salon experience, it needs polish and professionalism that it lacks at the moment.
After three years, I found a salon. – I've been looking for someone I can trust to do my hair for a long time. It's pretty good hair, fine strands but a thick mane and long and dirty blond. I realize now I went about it the wrong way-- I was the hair model guinea pig for probably a dozen or so NYC stylists and stylists in training. But hey, what can I say! I'm a writer and the first few years here have been a struggle. I've worked odd jobs, no jobs, etc. So a hairstyle was just one of those luxuries I knew had to wait. Recently, I'd gone over 6 months without a trim, and I knew it was bad. And the last colorist was actually an 18-year old Arrojo student. So after only a few weeks my highlights were looking more like a suntanned zebra. It just wasn't right.
But January was looking up for me. I had a job interview with a fashion magazine venture, and for the first time in a long time I knew I had to put my best foot forward. Le Salon East was on Lifebooker, and the salon is literally across the street from my apartment. I can see it out my window! The stars were aligning, and I knew I had my chance. I walked over, hoping for a walk-in, but they were all booked. But they booked me right away for an appointment the next day.
Galyna was ready for me right when I arrived. And she was so patient and understanding. Sometimes stylists talk too much, others not at all. Galyna was so sweet and kind, and she understood what I had gone through with my hair in the past as a hair model and impoverished writer. She made me feel at ease, even though I was definitely nervous because of such bad dye jobs in the past. All I said was "Brigitte Bardot" and she said, "Do not worry, we will make you so beautiful." She had to cut more length than either she or I would have liked, but that was my fault because my split ends were so ragged.
And she's right. She made me look so beautiful. It's a total Brigitte Bardot-- and I was in and out in under two hours. And through Lifebooker, the cut, partial highlight and style were very affordable. And I got the job!!!! What a dream. Hopefully after my internship ends I can start paying full price. Galyna deserves every penny!
Also, it's been a couple of weeks, and let me say I still look bangin'! If you're broke like me, get on over to lifebooker and wait for a le salon east appointment to open up. It might just bring that change of attitude you need to get out there and get what you want!
Galyna gave me the BEST service ever!!! – I came to the salon few weeks ago to repair my damage broken hair & to do my highlights.Galyna was assigned to do the job. I honestly could not be happier after she finished my highlights & Keratyn treatment. My hair looks 100% healthier I would recomment Galyna to everyone.
Worst dye job - go at your own risk – I read the great reviews and thought I would try this place - big mistake. I asked for a single process for dark brown hair. I have had my hair professionally done before with great results. When they went to wash out the dye the dye that got on my skin would not come out. That was the first clue something was wrong. they finally got most (not all ) out and she cut and blew it dry. The next time I washed my hair all this dye came out and has continues to come out over the past 2 weeks. I have stained 3 towels and 2 pillow cases because of the dye . When I went back to complain they did nothing! saying it happens with dark hair. It has never happened to me before and anyone I know. I think they messed up and don’t want to admit it - I WOULD NOT GO THERE - They do not even deserve one star but that was the worse i could give them
Not the best for brazilian keratin – When I went to Le Salon East for Brazilian keratin last Friday, the salon was packed. In the middle of applying the treatment, the woman working on me (Galyna) told me to go sit in the waiting area for some reason - I could not understand due to her accent. At that time, I do not think she was completely done applying the product.
When Galyna brought me back to her chair, she proceeded to blow dry and flat iron my hair, so I thought I must have been mistaken and that she had indeed finished applying the product. However, after I washed my hair for the first time on Monday it was not straight and frizz free. Granted, the weather lately has been horrendously humid - but I would say the level of straightness and smoothness I have now is equivalent to what I would have 1 month post treatment at my normal salon. So clearly the product was applied hurriedly and incorrectly.
I have a LifeBooker loot certificate to the salon remaining so will use that, but I am not likely to return after.
I should also note that the salon is small and most of the stylists were doing Brazilian keratin treatments. The area was not well ventilated, and there was a lot of smoke from the flat ironing.
Friendly Service, High Quality for Hair Cut – The salon owner and designer, Daisy, is such a nice young lady. I am very satisfied with my new haircut. Lots of detailed work and techniques involved and Daisy sure has a great sense of beauty!
