Getting Better All The Time – Black Iron has been steadily getting better since we have been going. Our first experience was a bit of a bust but we were forgiving as it was in its first few weeks of business.
My advice would be to go on a slower night as I think that there are some challenges maintaining quality and consistency of preparation with larger crowds present.
Overall, it is great to have this place in the neighborhood. Prices are good, burgers are very good, good selection of beers... Many positives. Hopefully they just keep getting better. They seem to be on the right track.
Great new spot in the East Village! – Went here with a buddy recently and would definitely go back again. After finding Black Iron on Citysearch, we headed there for an early dinner. Immediately, I was excited to see several excellent beer choices on draft. After enjoying a couple brews, our meals arrived and the burgers were great! Not much else to say except that good beer and great burgers make for an excellent combo!
Shakey start but give it time. – Went down there with a few people, 4 to be exact, sat down straight away and proceeded to wade through what was on offer. We selected different beers so we could all try them, good selection of local beers i might add.
We had a selection of burgers to really see what we were looking at, now bearing in mind this is a new place, we had some issues that were quickly rectified. Overall, the beers were nice and the burgers were very good, lots of flavor and an excellent selection of condiments. I would have to say though, that for the East Village/Alphabet City, the price for the combined meal was alot, which was the only thing that left a bad taste in my mouth, its an upscale Burger shop, not PJ Clarkes, so whether it was just expecting a break being where it is, i don't know.
The service was good though and the detail on the decor is exceptional. Give this one time as once they iron out the kinks, it will be a gem.

While the original black iron griddle (hence the name) was vetoed in favor of a more modern steel-and-chrome one, the tiny burger joint still keeps its informal, old-school vibe alive with 70s punk rock on the stereo, tall bar stools and exposed brick walls. The burgers are models of simplicity: no special sauces, just high-quality beef with basic toppings (lettuce, tomato, onion and a variety of cheeses). Twelve (mostly local) beers on tap make this a great spot to start a big night out and, as it closes at 3am, a great place to end one.
Hits: Delicious burgers and draft beers until 3am--what's not to like?
Misses: There's not much space to wait for a table, so you better hope it's not raining outside.
