POOR MANAGEMENT – This is an incident that happened at this bakery on 5/1/12 to an employee. This employee is a 22 years old black female with a 2 year old daughter 2 of the white female manager instructed her to go outside and wash the wheels on the cart with a tooth brush. I would like to know if this is in any employee job description to clean a wheel with a tooth brush. I took this as being offensive and racist since there were white employees there also, why pick her to do this oh by the way after 61/2 months of employment and a promotion she was fired.... we are not going to stand for this and if necessary we will shut this bakery down. This is not business and it not be tolerated... I am 59 years old and I never had to go through anything like this, this is racist and if no one see this for what it is than something is wrong with them.
The tourist trap to end all tourist traps – So when my friend visited from out of town, she insisted on going to Magnolia Bakery. I've had poor experiences with tourist friends insisting on things before, and ths turned out to be no different. The cupcakes felt like they could've come out of a box baked at home (maybe with fancier names), the prices were sadly distinctly New Yorkish, and the tourist, oh SO MANY TOURISTS. So I would give it a one star myself. My friend, though, seemed to appreciate every "intricacy" about the experience, and would've given it a five. Thus, I'm averaging us out, and there's your 3. But you've been warned.
Not worth the hype – Stood on a long line to wait for what I heard would be the most incredible cupcakes. Disappointed. They are not bad, but definitely not worth the high price. I bought six assorted, and 4 were dry with overly sweet thick frosting. The carrot cake cupcake and the red velvet were better (they ae also higher priced than the regular ones). Box mix cupcakes and canned frosting taste better. My kids were not impressed.
Just taste! – I have only one suggestion - Taste their chocolate cake! Thats it! No more...
That is all you need to want to come back to this place! :)
Magnolia's (one visit was enough) – It's a New York thing. If people stand in line, the product has got to be good. Not so, in this case. The store was full of tourists because of the Christmas season. There was no good traffic flow so there was a lot of chaos. Other shoppers were rude, due to the high stress level of getting into the wrong line. The clerk was pretty disgusted and rude. Check out was crowded and slow. We paid $19 for six cupcakes. We were surprised that four of the vanilla with chocolate icing were stale. The cupcakes were relatively small and they had too much icing.
Not So Impressed - Always Crowded – This Magnolia Bakery location has mediocre cupcakes and doesn't really live up to the name ...the cupcakes are moist and just "good", but not fabulous.
This location is always crowded and the people behind the counter get very impatient if you don't know what you want.
The buying experience is not so pleasant - find better cupcakes somewhere else.
columbus magnolia has no customer dservice what so ever! – same people who hired the ones for the other stores?
Confusing. Maybe that store was a bought store, theyre kids that dont care. At all.
wv great everything, same as rock,
dont go to col magnolia youll feel like you r out of place and theyre your lucky to have them.
My Favorite Magnolia Bakery – I've been to this MB 4 times since my husband and I happened to walk by it while we were hanging out at Rockefeller Center. I've never seen a line come out of the store. I've never waited for more than 5 minutes. I've been helped as soon as I stand by the counter, make a selection of the cupcake (someone behind the counter with gloves will pick the cupcake I wanted and place it in a very pretty box) and make a payment. There might be a line inside the bakery but it moves pretty fast. I love all the pretty cupcakes! My husband loves the Magic Cookie Bars!
I've always wanted to try the Red Velvet cupcake but it's always sold out. On April 4, 2009 I was very happy to have finally caught up with the elusive Red Velvet cupcake. It was fresh, moist and delicious! The icing was not even very sweet. Just perfect!
They have the friendliest staff and always ready to help you with a smile. I love them all!
If not for my fear of Diabetes, I will be visiting this store everyday. I settle with every week:)
Editorial Review – This midtown outpost of the famed West Village cupcake spot also serves cakes, banana pudding, cookies and more.
