one of Atlanta's best thai food spots – ive been going to this for lunch to this place since they new owners took over and absolutely love it!. It is hosted by its owner who is always ready to give the best service possible, the wait staff is very friendly and fast, they always greet you with a smile which makes you feel very welcome!. the food is delicious and they work hard on the presentation of each dish. good price, good portions, complimentary soup, excellent coconut soup(a favorite) . highly recommend this place!
Excellent Thai Food – Buford Highway has numerous great Asian restaurants, but it has a relatively small number of quality Thai restaurants. Coco Thai Bistro is a welcome change of pace.
We have had several appetizers and entrees here, and they have all been very good. The kitchen obviously pays attention to the details, since the side vegetables, noodles, and sauces are often as interesting as the main courses.
Thai food lovers looking for excellent Thai dishes at very reasonable prices should check out Coco Thai.
This is why I love Buford Highway! – I've been to Thailand and the food here is better than it was in Thailand!! If you are looking for an exquisite, masterpiece curry then this is the place. Friendly staff and owner, well decorated, convenient, good prices - What more could you want?! I ate there for lunch today and it was perfect for $7! I'll be making this one of my good habits for 2009!
You'll keep coming back for more.... – This relatively new restaurant is a wonderful way to experience Thai food. You'll start the experience by being greeted warmly as soon as you enter the restaurant and it only gets better.
After you're seated, order a Chang beer or Thai iced coffee while you take a quick look at the varied offerings from the menu. While you certainly have the option of ordering from the menu, the folks here also will readily prepare any "off menu" items you like. Two of my off menu favorites--kra prao kai sub kai dow (ground chicken with Thai basil and topped with a fried egg) and pad cha (crispy fish)--are remarkable. Tell them what you like (and what you don't) and they readily make a recommendation or two. Try one or more of the recommended items--you won't regret it.
Wonderful owner, wonderful staff, wonderful chef, exceptional flavors, consistent preparation...go a couple of times and you'll feel as if this is your restaurant (and you'll have a great meal as well).
What A Great Place! – This thai restaurant is a wonderful secret! The food was delicious and the presentation of each dish was beautiful as well. The wine list is impressive for a restaurant of this size. The wait staff was friendly and very attentive. I am happy to find this place so close to Buckhead, with none of the normal Buckhead crowded conditions and traffic hassles.
We attended on a Friday night and they was live piano music -very nice and subtle for just the right romantic atmosphere.
The owners and the cooks obviously have a lot of experience in how to set up a great combination of atmosphere and excellent cuisine. We look forward to next weekend!!
OMG Delicious!! – After discovering that I have celiac disease, my favorite pastime changed drastically, to say the least. When I told the server at CoCo Thai, she made no fuss about it and the chef even came out and talked to me! I wasn't expecting very much, seeing as most gluten free substitutions are the equivalent of the Wall- Mart variety of a five star restaurant. What I received, though, was one of the most delicious meals I've ever had. This stuff is good. And not just gluten free good. Good, for real. I felt like the chef took my disease and turned it into a challenge... only he does this for every dish. My date's dinner may have been better than mine! Curries are well rounded, with thoughtful touches such as the addition of pineapple to Massaman. Don't hesitate to check out the Trio- panang, green and massaman curries in a three sectioned dish. The service is impeccable and I can't believe it doesn't cost more. I've been twice now, and each time amazed at the amount of beautifully prepared food for the price. Go. Check it out. See if it isn't instantly your new favorite Thai place.
Great new Thai place!! – Went here with my friend a couple of weeks ago and have since been back three times. Everyone I have taken here has been hooked ever since. It is a tucked away gem convenient to downtown. The menu hosts a wide variety of great Thai food. The staff is friendly and competent. My compliments to the chef!! Green Curry is amazing as well as the Massaman Curry. I will be sending friends here and you will probably see me there too!! Five Stars!!
An Unexpected Little Gem! – The restaurant is cozy, with classy but not flashy decor, it was empty when we walked in, not normally a good sign, but it's new and we liked it quiet anyway.
With low expectations, we picked two interesting sounding dishes- a basil lamb shank and the Coco trio, from the specialty menu. Now I've eaten at almost every Thai restaurant in Atlanta metro and I've tasted it all-from remarkable to bad. We were apprehensive.
The food arrived, in large portions I may say, and beautifully presented-the coco trio came in a three-compartment serving bowl, in each compartment crispy tilapia in green, panang and masaman curry, no need to choose, have it all! It was very novel, creative, the curry while not among the most spectacular in town, was very tasty, thumbs up for creative serving! It was however overshadowed by my fiance's lamb shank in basil sauce which came on a large platter, still on bone, huge and well-cooked. Tender yet crispy. The basil sauce was delicious with plenty of vegetables to sop up its gravy.
We were both very pleased, with the size of the servings and the unexpected quality and creativity at such an unassuming place-a nondescript almost run-down strip mall.
Dessert was next, lots of tasty options: we picked the Thai Mango ice-cream (home-made) on sticky rice. I was disappointed that it was ice-cream and not the traditional mango slices, but the waitress told us that they couldn't get good quality mangoes this time around. Attention to detail, I'm impressed.
It arrived, I was blown away-a scoop of sweet mango ice-cream (not the artificially flavored one I despised) that hinted of the real fruit, on a bed of sticky rice- a nutty tasty mix of sweet dark and light sticky rice with sesame seeds and peanuts-wow, drizzled with sweet coconut milk. It was heavenly. I have come away from past mango+sticky rice combos feeling like I've been cheated of my $6 but and this was another unexpected surprise from this new little restaurant.
We will be going back.
My new favorite Thai restaurant – Since I moved to Decatur, I've been searching for a good Thai restaurant to replace my old favorite outside the Perimeter. Unknowingly, I happened into Coco Thai Bistro just after the owners took over from Phuket. From the minute I entered the restaurant I was hooked. The owner and wait staff are the most professional and nicest I've encountered anywhere and they even remembered our names after the first visit. They carefully explained the menu to us and prepared several of our favorite dishes that aren't even on the menu but are more authentic Thai. Everything is prepared perfectly and if we want something changed, it's never a problem.....and they always remember to bring extra cilantro for the Nam Sod!
Local restaurants could learn a thing or two from they folks -- they are the BEST!
