Not worth it when there are a zillion other places nearby that are better! If you thought Durgin Park was known for having bad service and rude wait staff - you are sadly mistaken as Davios is on that list. Maybe with enough drinks bald old waiters (who work the bar area) can come across funny with their SURLY attitudes but not this night.
With no room at the bar, we sat at the lounge tables and waited over 20 mins for someone to drop a drink menu or at least say hi but nothing. No bald old waiter in site - so we ordered drinks at the bar and waited for the bar menu. Finally he shows up and says 'really no need to get a drink at the bar' in a SURLY tone. I actually apologized and figured we would have at least another drink/food and leave him a nice tip. He comes back with menus and says nothing - never comes back to take our order so we order food at the bar. We wait and wait while another 30 mins pass and bald old waiter comes with plates/napkins and still no word from him.
I wish this experience was better as I work in the neighborhood and have had many dinner functions there but NEVER EVER AGAIN!
Delicious but overpriced. – Dinner for 4, tip included came to $500. Although the food was delicious, I can't imagine dining there too many times a year. Our dinner included a $70 bottle of wine, 3 appetizers, 4 dinners (1 Bolognese, 2 Veal Chops, 1 Filet Mignon) and 2 Deserts, 2 Capacchino, 2 glasses of Port Wine). One other time I went for Lunch and it was $50 per person (salad, pasta, desert and capacchino). Very delicious and good service. Only problem is the bill at the end of the meal.
Dovio's Excellent Service – My first trip to Boston was quite challenging as I attempted to navigate the Boston "attitude." I went to a restaurant close to Davio's (will remain nameless) and had a bad experience with the host who appeared to not want to seat me and my co-worker. We walked over to Dovico's and was greeted very warmly. The service was top notch, wine was great, water glass never went empty, and the food was superb. I ordered the scallops and my co-worker ordered a steak. His steak was cooked perfectly and my scallops were as well. The dessert was AWESOME! If I ever visit Boston again, it will be my FIRST stop!!!
Thank you for the nice review. We are glad you enjoyed your experience. Hopefully we will see you again soon.
Good Food Terrible Service – I have recently moved to Boston from New York and live right around the corner from Davio's s, and have always wanted to go to dinner there.
The night I went I was with 5 other people so 6 total. We were looking to eat and drink well not just a cocktail and an appetizer.
When we first got there the man who greeted us was extremely friendly and helpful. He had told us it was going to be about 10-15 minutes they had to get our table ready. No problem we went to the bar and had a cocktail. Our table was ready shorter then that amount so we carried our drinks to the table. The table was amazing we sat right by a window and had a semi-private space.
We were greeted by Betty the rudest woman I have ever encountered at a steak house. She rolled her eyes every time we asked her for something. We are talking simple things like a glass of water. She refused to let us order our appetizers and salads at different points then our meal. She firmly told us the kitchen doesn't let her submit orders separately. She also started take the wine glasses off the table. One of the people I was with asked if she could leave them on the table because we were going to order wine in a few. She then snapped back "to let her do her job".
The food was very good. Everyone I was with ordered steak and there was not one bad thing said about the food. The only thing I didn't like was the sides. Normally the sides are family style but these were individual.
We didn't stiff Betty but I wouldn't go back there because she was so awful and rude and there are so many other choices out there.
I found god through the lobster risotto – I had read a review in a book about this place and decided to check it out while visiting Boston. We sat at the bar. Bar staff was great. We started with the lobster risotto. We order the small portion to share as an app but honestly I wish I had ordered the large for my dinner. It was divine!! Perfectly al dente. Huge chumchs of lobster..sauce was amazing. After we had two filets and scallops..these were average. I will be talking about that risotto for a long time. Lol
The best – If you live in Boston and are looking to have a great meal you must hit this spot. I continue to go back to Davio's not only for the great food but a great bar scene after work on a Thursday or Friday. My favorite thing on the menu is the Veal Chop, you can't go wrong with it.
Disappointing and high prices – The bread for the sandwiches was stale, the salads were tiny and the wine was 10 dollars a glass.the service also was slow.i dont know if it was because it was a sunday afternoon but the prices werent any cheaper for what we got..Wouldnt go back
Hands down, best Steak in Boston – Not too much to say. Absolutely awesome steak. The beers were cold, the ambiance was great, my fiance had a great salad. Check it out.
Overpriced, undelivered – We went to Davio's last weekend for my 34th and Dad's 65th Birthdays... We chose Davio's because, well , it was the only place we could get a reservation for 7 people during restaurant week... That should have been a hint.
When we arrived, we were seated promptly, at a cramped table for 7 people. We were the only people in the restaurant.
We ordered 2 orders of fried oysters, foie gras and tuna carpaccio for starters. The Tuna was well prepared, the oysters however where coated in an overly thick cornmeal batter and fried beyond repair, the usual luscious texture was completely irradicated. The Foie Gras was black, and we sent in back. The second round of Foie Gras was much better, although still not pink..
For "intermezzo" we ordered Lobster Risotto and fried Chicken Livers.. Again, the livers were way overdone and tasted "livery", not smooth and creamy like correctly cooked liver.. The Lobster Risotto may have as well been Uncle Ben's White Rice. No seasoning, no flavor, no risotto.
Entrees- I ordered the Veal Porterhouse, My wife had the Prime NY Sirloin, My Dad had the Pork Chop and the other's had various other dishes, that I will not over comment on, because they were decent, at best..
VEAL- The "char-grill" they use imparts so much "smoky" flavor, it was inedible.. I sent it back and got a lobster dish that was actually very good
NY Sirloin- Overcooked, sent back, came back RAW
Pork- Same Deal
My 7 year old neice ordered pasta with butter, and got it, plus about 1/4 cup of black pepper..
The manager never came to the table, I actually had to go find him. He did, however comp the NY, Pork Chop and desserts. With all the issues that we had, he should have been the one to come to us, not us go to him..
All in all, this was a very bad experience, especially because with tip (and the comps), it was still $700.
Everything is top notch! – How can you go wrong with Davio's? You can't! Steve and his staff have done such a great job over the years. If you haven't been here or any of their other locations you should give it a try. The food is consistently amazing and the service is the same.
