Get-it-to-go Thai/Sushi – Montien is my default for getting delicious food when I have a few extra bones in my pocket. When I first heard of Montien, I was beyond pumped. Sushi and Thai, you say? Well, those are the two of my favorite things combined!
The food lived up to my expectations. The best thing is to get them combined. I mostly go during lunchtime because the combo boxes are the best deal. For around $14, you can get a sushi roll, pad thai, salad and tempura vegetables.
I agree with a few of the other reviews that say the service is not great. That has been my experience. Out for lunch with my boss, she felt sort of awkward while we waited 15 or 20 minutes for my meal to come to the table.
So, I say get it to go. Go to the bar to pick up your carry out or use Foodler or another delivery service to get it straight to your door. For delivery, there is a $10 minimum, but there is no delivery fee.
Thai food with service – Montien is a good Thai restaurant with consistent food. The lunch menu is a good value while the dinner menu with the same food is a few dollars more for everything. In the several times I have eaten there the food has always been consistent and good. Montien service is good when not busy, but starts to fall down if there is a rush. One annoyance is that they don't always serve everyone at the table at the same time. If you want to be polite and not begin until all are served you may have a cold meal in front of you before you table mates receive their food.
If you like to mix you Japanese with your Thai food then you will like Montien. Sushi is available and made to order. The Fresh Rolls and Salmon Maki are some favorites.
If you are going to the theater and in a mood for Thai, make a reservation and enjoy this nearby venue. Overall it is a good place with good food and the service i usually pretty good despite a few flaws.
DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! – I went to Montien a couple weeks ago for lunch with a friend on a Friday. Since I got there early, I sat at the bar, where the bartender served me a special Spanish coffee drink since it was so cold. To be clear, this was not on the menu, and was greatly appreciated while I warmed up and waited.
After we were seated, we ordered an ok lunch of spring rolls, cashew nut chicken and drunken noodles. The server in our section was getting very busy at that time, but was a little slow still considering. The food itself was pretty bland--my chicken was some of the most boring that I've ever tasted, and to top things off, I even thought their lunch prices were a bit much.
However, the really interesting/terrible part came when it was time to leave. Since my friend only had an hour, we kept looking around repeatedly for our server to come give us the check, which took her about 10-15 min. to come back with after we were well done with our meals. Then we waited even longer for her to pick it up, and had to have it split. Considering my annoyance and sub-par food, I tipped her $1 on an $18 tab, and my friend tipped $1.50. Rude? Sure. Could I have given a little more considering the standard 15%? Probably. That's not the point.
What is the point is that after we hastily got up to leave since my friend was now late getting back to work, our server actually physically chased us out the door and brought our check out onto the sidewalk and demanded that we tip her a solid 15% minimum. Confused, I asked if the tip was automatically included, thinking I may have missed the required gratuity somewhere added on the bill. No, she said, it wasn't automatically included, but we still needed to change the tip amount we'd given her because she said 15% was the norm.
My friend looked at each other in disbelief and said, "I don't think so," and started walking away, where at that point she actually yelled at us saying, "This is unacceptable!"
Needless to say, we both watched our bank accounts very closely until that charge cleared, and will never, not in a milion years, go back to that restaurant again. That server should be either fired or at least given a stern lecture by her manager on how not to drive customers away. And I'd even been to Montien a couple times before this and thought it was a little expensive but ok considering the location. It's a shame, too, because I really appreciated the bartender/hostess that was there.
Great Thai food with a dazzling array of menu choices. – For great Thai food with a dazzling array of menu choices, Montien is for you. The restaurant?s hip vibe ? majestic red walls, chic black furniture and large mirrors ? combined with the cheerful service, immediately make you feel special. And the exotic and scrumptious appetizers keep the good times rolling. Favorites include Lady Dancing, marinated shrimp grilled on skewers served with cucumber and peanut sauce; and Bang-Bang, a ground shrimp and chicken crispy spring roll with sweet and sour sauce. But then things really get good with a plethora of house special, seafood, curry, noodle and salad entrees that will satisfy all tastes. Standouts include the mild shrimp Panang Curry with green peas, onions, basil and coconut milk; and the Seafood Kamikaze - shrimp, scallop and squid stir-fried with onion, mushroom and zucchini in a hot chili sauce. And for those who want to keep it simple, the Pad-Se-Iew - stir-fried noodles with egg, Chinese broccoli in a perfect sweet soy sauce - doesn?t disappoint.
Authentic Thai cuisine at AFFORDABLE prices, fast & friendly service – So I got here late (9:45 pm). My waiter was friendly and nice and answered all my questions. The sushi rolls were fresh and there was a wide variety to chose from. The drunken noodles were seasoned and spiced well (I asked for mine a "little spicy"). The wine was slightly pricy (as far as Asian restaurants go) but the portion was good, so I didn't mind. The only negative was that at 10:15 pm, they asked if I could pay my bill. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the hostess told me they closed at 10:30 pm. I really didn't mind as I was already eating (and drinking wine). To be fair, I was the last diner inside at that point. Normally, I don't like being rushed in my dining but I was famished and the food in front of me. Ehh, if that's the worst I can comment on... who cares?
Try the tempura sushi/ go elsewhere for better thai food – Recommended by our hotel- found the service to be excellent but the thai food was not great... but we also ordered sushi & it was the best tempura sushi as the whole roll is not deep fried merely sprinkled with tempura pieces which made for a great roll.
Great food, speedy service – I walk by Montien all the time, and yesterday I finally checked it out. I asked for the Thai menu in addition to the regular menu. The prices were very reasonable and the food excellent. Servers were running around all over the place, so attention is limited but efficient. Our food came very quickly and tasted great! The restaurant was very crowded and a bit loud, but we managed to have excellent conversation.
simply the best... – my friends and i went here with a party of 10 and we got treated like kings.. We had sushi-saki-thai food and beer and wine flowing.. There sushi bar hands down beats any sushi i have had in the area and reasonbly priced.. And the thai food portions are HUGE- not a let down like some thai places...!
Montien Rules! – Sushi was among the best ever. Great friendly service, great atmosphere, great food!
FANTASTIC – This is hands down the best Asian food in the city. Truly fantastic, flavorful--we loved it. Do not miss this place. Make sure you ask for copies of BOTH menus (they have menus they give to Thai guests and another they give to others)...so authentic and so delicious. I haven't had food this good in a long time.
