DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE! I discovered the Ouidad product line a couple of months ago, and liked the results. While on their website, I read reviews about the salon ( all gushing with praise), so I made an appointment with Alenka. We talked very specifically about the proportion, texture and silhouette that I wanted, and even found a picture of a similar cut in one of their own brochures. Confident that I was finally going to get the cut of my dreams, I relaxed and listened to Pandora Radio while Alenka did her magic.

Yeah....only, not so much. At some point during the process, she decided that she could not deliver what we had agreed upon without taking out much of my length, but INSTEAD OF TELLING ME- she came up with a compromise that she was apparently happy with. I was not.

Okay, these things happen. I'll take my head home, and see how I feel tomorrow. Still not happy, so I put in a call to see if there was a way to get closer to what we had agreed to. We talked for a few minutes, and then she says, "Wash it and live with it for a couple of weeks, then call me again and we'll see what we can do." Right. That is the sound of a new client becoming a never-darkening-your-door-again EX-client.

"Carve and Slice" , "Rake and Shake"- meaningless marketing drivel unless you stand behind your work. I made an appointment with Mick at Clark Nova for noon tomorrow. The architecture, shape and proportion of his cuts are always IMPECCABLE- even if he doesn't have an impressive marketing scheme behind him.

Never again – Can't do Ouidad. Can't do it. With thick, coarse, curly/wavy hair, I wanted to go to a salon that understands the nature of curls and what weight does to them. Well I've given Ouidad three tries. The first cut was so cautious, it was essentially a trim and I had to go back two months later for a real cut. The next time was also the same experience. This time I specified I needed some height and shape around my face and two weeks later I have decided I must must go get it cut again. My hair is unshaped, umanageable, the curls are all over the place and I hardly look like someone who spends a lot of money getting her hair cut. Do I have to claim to be famous and spend three hundred dollars to find someone who knows what the f**k they're doing in regards to creating a shape that is right for their customers' face? In my opinion, the Ouidad organization is successful because of excellent, aggressive marketing.

Horrible haircut, not what I wanted at all – I have been getting ouidad cuts for two years now at a different ouidad salon than this one. I had gorgeous long thick hair halfway down my back and they always cut into the curl and lightened it up so that I was able to keep all that length without it being so heavy! After a ton of bad haircuts from salons that didn't know how to handle my curls and length I was so happy to find people who knew how to work with my hair and listened to me!

When I moved to CA I went to this ouidad salon expecting them to be able to deliver the same results. I told my stylist, Kate, that I wanted to keep my length. Apparently she missed something as she cut over half my head of hair into a shoulder length layer. I never, never asked for layers. I hate layers. She hardly handled the weight of my hair and I left with one big poofy shoulder length layer and a tiny bit of my gorgeous length left on the bottom. Huge disconnect. I went back and had her thin it out more but its going to take months and months to get my hair back. On top of that, it didn't even feel like a ouidad cut. I saw Alenka cutting into the curl of the girl next to me, but Kate just ran her scissors through my hair.

I cannot speak for any other of the stylist at this salon but I can tell you that if you go to Kate, be VERY VERY VERY VERY SPECIFIC ABOUT WHAT YOU WANT. It's my personal opinion that someone should not cut layers without discussing it with the client first. I cried for days after my cut with Kate and I am still extremely dissatisfied. I feel like I paid $135 to ruin my hair. While she was accommodating about 'fixing it' there is no fix for cutting a ludicrously short layer. I feel like Kate didn't listen to me at all and just opted to give me the same haircut she has. $135 is a lot to pay for a haircut in this economy, and it hurts a lot more when you absolutely hate it. I am newly poor, poofy, and unhappy in CA.

Not to mention I've now had three people say to me "What did you do to your hair?!?!" or other variations on "It looks like sh**"

Curly Hair Genius! – Ok, so if you have curly hair you KNOW how hard it is to find a stylist that "gets it". My whole life I've really searched for the right stylist. I am so ecstatic that the famous queen of curls "Ouidad" has opened her west coast salon. It's been a long time coming!! The ouidad style of cutting leaves every curl perfectly blended with no frizzies. AMAZING!! I get lots of compliments from everyone I know and even strangers.
