My experience at Vero – When you enter in Vero the dominant black color and the lights of the vanilla candles on tables create a good atmosphere. It's a minimal chic place against the rich menu starting from food to share, main and second courses, and a good selection of wines all over the world. The good attention to tableware details goes on when food come, really attracting thanks a good creativity from the kitchen. Burrata was creamy and fresh with a beautiful red pepper julienne with basil, ricotta toast had an interesting sauce on top and Portobello mushrooms was full of seasonings. The only drawback is the service that often indulges at your table removing a good chunk of atmosphere and privacy while seating.
Won't be going back – 4 of us went for Sunday brunch based on the Gilt City "boozy brunch" special we had bought. The service and the food were pretty bad. There was only 1 waitress working the whole dining room and we could never get her attention, nor did she come to check up on us. We probably waited at least 25-30 minutes before we could flag her down to order. Not to mention, she kept serving tables that arrived after us, first. Prosciutto Benedict arrived ice cold and with hard yolks. Portions very small. 4 of us girls all left hungry still (no, we're not large girls). It was pretty cold outside and we were seated next to a door that went to the outdoor seating where there were a few people having drinks/food in their fur coats (honestly, don't know how they were sitting outside). Instead of walking 5 feet around to the main door, the servers insisted on going through the door that we were seated next to and everytime they opened it, a freezing cold draft was let in. Never an apology or a warning that they were opening the door. They just barged right through. The icing on the cake to the whole meal was when we watched the buser clean the table next to ours. He literally dumped some of the water out of the small bowl that housed a flower onto the table and wiped it down. I then watched him dip his rag into one of the used water glasses to wipe it down some more. Absolutely disgusting. Considering this place tries to be upscale/trendy and charges trendy prices, based on our experience, definitely won't be going back.
Busboys steal your stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! – We have been regulars ( no longer) at Vero, live close by and have always enjoyed their food drink and atmosphere. However recently we dined at a table outside and we promptly paid for the bill and left while leaving behind our iphone on the table. Within 15 minutes we realized our mistake and returned to Vero to find no employees knew where the iphone was. We tried calling it and it had been turned off. Immediately we notified the manager, Benny and he assured us that he would look through the video surveillance tapes and find who took the phone. In the mean time, there were witnesses at the table adjacent to ours who said they saw the busboy take the phone. We contacted Benny the manager by email the following day and have yet to hear back from him. Please consider that the staff may be felons before dining at this establishment. Benny's email is benny@branditgrpdotcom
Btw- I'd never hire benny to manage your establishment
Not as good as it used to be – Vero used to be a competent and reliable go-to spot for decent food in a pleasant environment, but its quality of food and service has deteriorated rapidly and its clear its best days are behind it.
For starters, the food is not fresh or appetizing, but rather pedestrian for the price. Last time we went we had the Tuna Tartar which I am pretty sure was a few days away from being fresh. The panini sandwiches were not cooked all the way through and were swimming in grease, which to me is a cheap way of trying to make an unappetizing meal tolerable. The truffled mac and cheese didn't have any real truffles, but again just layered in grease.
The service is what makes this place a definite no-go. It is standard operating procedure treat customers like we should be grateful that they tolerate us gracing their presence. From the hostess to the bartenders there is just a smug attitude and deliberate attempt to make you feel small. I have friends that live in the neighborhood and they all recommend avoiding it for its bad service and high prices.
Lastly, other people have commented that there is a good singles vibe or a good spot for a date, and they are completely wrong on both counts. There are lots of good places to meet singles nearby that have higher quality and quantity. If you go there on a date you have too many moments of awkwardness from the hostess to the paying the bill where they treat you with contempt that it just isn't worth it... save your time, money and patience and go someplace else!
Lively Atmosphere, Great Bartenders, Standard Wine Bar – I met friends here after a nice dinner and it was a fitting end to the night. The bar was filled with people enjoying themselves & the atmosphere was lively & loud.
The bartenders were very friendly, quickly served rounds, offered suggestions. They were one of the highlights and would draw me back.
The cocktail list was interesting and I'd strongly recommend the Champagne Mojito.
I didn't have the food, but the dinner tables in the bar were filled and there were a number of birthday celebrations going on.
The location is pretty convenient if you're out in mid-town for dinner or a show.
I want nyc to know how rude this place was....... – Last night my friend and I went to Vero... It was a wednesday night, moderately busy. six or seven tables open.... A man that I'm am assuming was either the owner or manager seated us into a tiny corner table in a nook in the back... with another couple! It was clearly one table... They were shocked as were we. The couple even joked if we wanted a bite of their food... I politely asked the manager if we could possibly move tables since we feel a little awkward and there were a bunch of tables open... I mean, i was facing the woman.. while my friend was sitting next to the man...... The owner said that there were none available for just two people. So when the waitress came over, we asked again. She finally said we could move to another table but a party would be joining to sit at the far side of it later... We agreed. Within, a MINUTE this a-hole manager brought a couple to our same table so we shared one again, although there were still many empty tables all around us. Then the waitress proceeded to come over and ask the ENTIRE table what our collective drink order would be.... um, i'm sorry. we're not the same PARTY..... these people are crazy.... Needless to say the food was disgusting, the wine was nothing special. we left disappointed. I have a feeling this place will not last in nyc, b/c it doesn't compare to tons of better wine bars in the area. AND to top it off?? my friend got food poisoning last night, her stomach is still in shambles. avoid this p.o.s. place-
Older suits and their lady friends get cozy with generous glasses of wine and small plates at this midtown spot. – In Short
Taking its cue from a West Elm showroom, Vero's slate sponge-painted walls with white crown molding, dark leather couches and dangling Edison bulbs put a unique spin on the standard cookie-cutter decor typical of most dime-a-dozen wine bars. Even the menu is mature, with choices like empanadas with duck confit, veal meatballs and braised short rib tacos. The music complements the refined but hip crowd the bar seeks to attract, with a rotation of '90s hits that range from Deee-Lite to A Tribe Called Quest.
Hits: If you live or work in midtown, it's the perfect spot to grab an after-work bite, romance a first date or meet up with old friends.
Misses: Although wine and cheese usually go hand in hand, skip the mouse trap-sized cheese plates--the portions are too slender for any real nibbling.
FINALLY! A fantastic wine bar in Midtown!! – A breath of fresh air! I live on the UES and I have frequented Vero uptown which is a very cozy neighborhood wine bar with EXCELLENT food and unique vibe. SO, Vero Midtown had some big shoes to fill. AND THEY DID! The place is beautiful inside; hard wood floors bars, wide variety of wines all kept at the perfect temperature. Great ambience, pretty people and staff. I met the owner and manager and they are so accomodating and friendly. All around a wonderful experience. Vero Midtown is something the neighborhood has been missing and wanted. I had a my best friends birthday dinner there and had a blast.
Perfect addition to the neighborhood – What a great place! Such a refreshing change from the regular neighborhood spots, it's exactly what we needed. Now I have a great place to meet my girlfriends, kick back and have some wine AND great food. Wine list is amazing, so much to choose from. Menu is appetizer style, we ordered a few things to share and everything was delicious. Our waitress' recommendations were amazing - you must try the Veal Meatballs, the Gnocchi with a creamy truffle sauce, and the Short Rib Tacos! In addition to wine they had some really pretty cocktails, but it was a wine night for me! As far as I could tell they have a full liquor bar, so even if your not into wine, I'd check it out! Everyone around us was having an amazing time and enjoying their food, so that's a good thing!!! Music is cool. Staff was accommodating and super friendly. Loves it! Will be back for more!
