Great place to meet up with friends or to catch up on some reading, the green tea latte, curry chicken salad sandwich and green tea tiramisu are some of the BEST I've ever had!
Great place for coffee, pastries, sandwiches and salads. Food is on the healthier side. Dishes large. Urth salad is on of the best things on the menu. Great smoothies too.
Lots of healthy options in the Arts District / Warehouse District - plenty of parking and a fun spot to hang out.
Citysearch Editorial Review – Tucked away in a striking historic brick building on an industrial stretch of downtown's Arts District, this outpost of the famed Urth Caffe chain feels worlds away from its Westside counterparts. While the lines can get unruly at peak hours, the vibe tends to be more laidback (read: less sceney) than its sister cafes. Located across the street from the Barker Block lofts, the organic cafe and coffeehouse draws everyone from downtown power lunchers to laptop-toting USC students. Inside the lofty space, sky-high ceilings, exposed bricks with vibrant tile accents and a corner fireplace create a cozy scene for hanging out. When it's nice out (isn't it always?), the expansive front patio offers plenty of prime seats with umbrellas and heat lamps at the ready. Organic coffees and teas include favorites like the Spanish latte, iced tea with boba and the Japanese green tea latte; the latter is worth ordering for the cute kitty foam design alone. Urth's on-site bakery turns out gorgeous pastries, baked goods and sweets--good luck leaving without indulging in a rich slice of cheesecake, deep dish pie, picture-perfect fruit tart or pecan sticky bun. On the breakfast menu, you'll find oatmeal, fruit bowl and omelet options, plus hearty fare like natural beef hash topped with poached eggs or a breakfast burrito. Crowds line up at lunch for grilled paninis, salads and a few Latin American selections like tostadas, tamales and quesadillas.
Great for salads and coffee. – Urth Caffe is near my work! Urth Caffe is near my work! The day I heard Urth was opening I was so excited. Then I forgot they opened, and my friend reminded me. I got straight into my car and picked up a super fine SPANISH LATTE WITH SOY and some breakfast potatoes.
My favorite thing here is the Tortilla Soup, so much so that I call ahead and make sure they have it. If they don't, I may reconsider my visit that day.
The grilled veggie sandwich is realllllly good too.
The only downside is that it is pretty pricey.
Oh and I saw Juliette Lewis there last week. I smiled and she said hi. I ran as fast as I could to my car so I could sit inside and scream, "OMFG JULIETTE LEWIS, NATURAL BORN KILLERS, THAT EPISODE OF MY NAME IS EARL WHERE SHE GOT ALL JACKED UP AND HAD GOLD TEETH. I LOVE HER." And then I went back to work.
favorite! – why is there no review for the downtown urth caffe? i know it is sort of in the middle of nowhere, but it being relatively smaller than the other urth locations is actually good news because it's easier to get a table, waiters are more attentive and serve you better, and you feel more relaxed and can sit longer. great japanese tea latte and spanish latte, i also love their pumpkin pie and portabello mushroom sandwich. the fruit tart is also a good pick. their carrot cake has a little too much frosting though, makes it feel more like a super sweet cheesecake instead of carrot cake. but that's the only thing i would not recommend. everything else is so great!! i'd recommend urth fo breakfast/brunch/lunch/tea/dinner!
