Keeping with Southern tradition, EaT's whiskey list is short on Scotch and long on bourbon, ensuring you'll be shooting more than just oysters. Try Elijah Craig, 18 year and the Basil Hayden's.
Love Oysters, this is your place! Always fresh, tasty and a great selection. Tip: Sunday brunch with a Live, lively, Jazz trio that plays till 2pm. A great way to relax on a Sunday! Service is friendly and you never feel rushed. And they have frickles and a make-your-own bloody mary bar!
Great creole/southern style food in a nice space that is both open and cozy. Friendly, quirky, stylish, and delicious!
It's Okay – Ordered two half dozens and a po-boy. The food was tasty, BUT....there was no cocktail or mignonette sauce for the oysters??? Very plain presentation. The po-boy was delicious but kinda on the small side. No salt and pepper was provided for the french fries and the service staff seemed to be understaffed so asking for some was out of the question. Had two shooters, which were the best part of the meal. When we asked for some cocktail or mignonette sauce for the oysters I was made to feel like a hick for needing it. They should take a look at some of the other raw bars in the country to see that it is NOT weird to like a sauce to go with oysters. I have probably eaten more oysters than all the staff combined. I won't return again unless like this time I HAVE to have oysters and in No-Po.
decent food and service – I was really surprised by a recent review about a particular server. We had her and she was really nice and attentive. In fact, I would say that about half the time that I go to EAT, she our server. We never had any problems.
But that's not the reason I am writing a review. I just love this place and wanted to say that I think it's great. I just wish that the menu was a little bit bigger.
Great place! – What a great place! Just love that there is a place to get authentic food like this in the NW!
The server, Adrian, walked us through each menu item and was very pleasant and a pleasure! Thanks again!
yee~haw – My wife and I are regulars, and we love this place. Oysters are fresh, delicous, and beyond reasonable. This town was really missing a down-home southern food/oyster restaurant (elswhere oysters are overpriced and uninspired). As service industry insiders, we're not quite sure what the owners do besides sit at the bar and sample their wine stock, but they are lucky enough to have employees that really care about the food they serve and the business they represent. From the cute and sassy bartenders/servers to the alabama hailing manager, we always feel well taken care of and genuinely appreciated. We love the food, and we love the way we are treated here.
unfortunately, i agree with other reviewer on service – I'm acquainted with the owners, and just LOVE the food and atmosphere. But the hungover waitress with the huge lower back tattoo (only mentioned as an identifier) is possibly the worst server EVER. And simply one of the most rude people i have ever encountered anywhere. Her disdaine is clearly intentional. Must be her favorite season, because the narcissists are in bloom. ;-P
Good Gumbo & great oysters – We ventured to Eat for a recent birthday dinner, looking for good food and not looking to spend lots of $$. We made out on both counts. My Gumbo was excellent - fresh, spicy and delivered quickly (in spite of the full tables). But I digress - first off we ordered a dozen oysters. They were off the charts perfect. Super fresh, very clean and expertly shucked. And did I mention the healthy selection - my favorites were the Chelsea Gems. We were very very happy. My boyfriend ordered the Etouffee - he was breathing fire but thought it was worth it. The drinks we ordered were nothing to write home about but that's cool. The 10oz pint of Trumer lager was cold, served in an icy mug. Needless to say I'm looking forward to our next meal at Eat.
Service staff needs training – I've been about four times now and despite the great food, the service is consistently mediocre. Last night the waitress looked up at me when I walked in, made eye contact, and I said hello. No reaction. A group of four came in soon after and she went and waited on them first. Then she took my order: two oyster shooters to start. She made bloody marys for the group first, an about fifteen minutes later, I went up to the bar to remind her of my shooters. She seemed completely hungover. Food's always good, though the fries could stand less grease. Po-boys are the real deal. Oysters have always been good there.
Worst food ever – My husband & I went to Eat last night. Our first impression was how cold the lower part of the restaurant was that you walk into (and where about 1/2 the tables are). The only table in the upper part was covered in flies (likely due to the sticky stuff on the table that hadn't been wiped off), so we shooed them away & had to sit there. I ordered the special, "fresh" smoked salmon & shrimp jambalaya ($15) and my hubby got a cat fish po'boy. My jambalaya was the worst thing ever - I never complain but I was forced to, I just couldn't bring myself to pay for this horrible dish. The jambalaya had zero sauce, it was just rice & scallions. The smoked salmon was not fresh & it was incredibly fatty (never seen this in my life!). I bit into several pieces and had to spit them out. The shrimp were so old & hard they almost crumbled. I felt insulted they were passing this off for $15 when it was obvious it was left over ingredients they needed to just get rid of. Even had my hubby try it to be sure I wasn't being too critical. The waitress did offer to replace it with something else but by then I figured it safer to not have to pay for it than get another thing off the menu with sub-par ingredients. My hubby liked his po'boy & collard greens ok. Will not be going back.
Super Friendly Staff and Good Eats – We dashed in here for some lunch and to get out of the rain. The bf had a Oyster Po'Boy, and I had a Cat Fish Po'Boy...both super good!...We swapped half way though so we could try both. The fries were tasty as well. The beer was ice cold and real good, but really don't dig the tiny little glasses...like maybe use pint size glasses.
