Loving my new look from Laurentius Salon.
Laurentius cut and color my hair. I love that he listens to what I need and work with my hair. He gave me the best advice, getting a style that work with what kind of hair I have and I love the new shiny highlights I got. I used to run to Ny and pay so much higher price, here I found someone with a world class reputation and it cost me half what I would have spend in NY.. I love it!!
I can't wait to try their mani pedi next.
Don't bother wasting your money! – Went to the salon today with my daughter. We both had our hair done by Laurentius. For the money he charges, the haircuts were very ordinary at best. By the time I got home you could really see the inferior cut. I have already made an appointment at my regular hair salon to have it re-cut.
Ed's color was great. I hope that he'll move to another salon and let me know where he is.;
Best in Philly, Rachel will make you look & feel beautiful!! – Fantastic haircut by Rachel for only $50. By far the most attentive stylist I've ever been to - I cannot thank her enough, or recommend this salon more emphatically!
Salon itself is very chic, clean, and makes you feel beautiful just walking in. Everyone is friendly and chatty and obviously loves what they are doing.
Sat down and discussed the thickness, movement, body, and texture of my hair, and how I normally style it. I emphasized that I am growing my hair out, and only needed a trim to shape things up. As Rachel cut, she was conservative and methodical - as she said, we can cut, but we can't put it back, so better to work slowly and carefully to achieve exactly the style I wanted. Midway through the cut, she blew my hair dry, and did the detail work on dry locks. We continually took out a mirror to check on how things were looking in the back, and made minor tweaks here and there. The cut lasted 1 hour and she was never distracted. Now, my hair looks beautiful blown out and air-dried and I've gotten tons of compliments in just the past 24 hours.
HORRIBLE Experience w. Kim Tran – I am a "bottle blonde" have been getting my hair done (usually full highlight) for over 10 years. My colorist moved and ever since no one ever gets my blonde color right - it either turns out to brassy or yellow or just does not go with my skin color, etc. So, this time I researched where I was going to get my hair done. I came across
Laurentius Salon & saw all the great reviews - checked out their website and saw that Kim Tran was called the "Blonde Specialist of Philadelphia" I was so excited to get my hair done & thought it was going to come out great finally since all the reviews were amazing about her. Well guess what? It came out awful.
First of all, you can not understand her because of her accent and her assistant has to translate what she
says...so I was confused on what she was actually going to be doing to my hair. But everyone in the salon reassured me that I should trust her and she was fabulous. I already had blonde hair but didn't like
the shade. She said she would brighten me up and put two different color blondes in my hair & do a full highlight. I told her I HATE roots, so please get as close to my roots as possible. She gave me attitude saying that it's impossible to get the root. I didn't want to make a scene so I just said, ok well just get a close to my root as
possible (even though everywhere else I've ever been gets right to the root no problem) I checked out my hair in the salon quickly and thought it looks good (didn't LOVE it) - I went home and further inspected my hair and saw that the top of my head had VERY visible roots, a huge streak (chunk) of blonde on the right side of my part &
the left side had basically no blonde. The two colors she put in my hair were bright blonde (which was a pretty shade) & a DARK brown (not the second shade of blonde like she said she was going to do.) And one
side had streaks of this dark brown and the other side had barely any. The two sides of my hair looked completely different. I like my hair to look natural blonde (I.E. thin highlights) which I also told her. And I ended up with super chunky highlights and dark low lights. I went out that night with my friends & they even commented on my hair. Saying I can't believe you paid for that! I called the next day because I was really unhappy of how my hair turned out and I PAID $300 + tip for my hair!!!
I back to the salon for Kim to re-do my hair and told Kim that I didn't like the chunky streaks, i had roots, etc. I was not rude or anything towards her and I even kept apologizing to her. She proceeded to yell at me and give me HUGE attitude in front of other customers saying she thought I liked my hair "funky" thats why she made it thick
highlights and low lights and that she told me she couldn't get to my roots (they were atleast half an inch at some sections) & what I thought were my "roots" were the brown low light that she had put
in my hair. THAT I DIDN'T ASK FOR. (I wish I could post a picture!) I was so uncomfortable while sitting there because she was clearly pissed off and her & her assistant kept whispering and giving each other "looks" It was awful.
I wanted to cry. I don't EVER right reviews but I thought I should share my experience so you aren't tricked into thinking Kim Tran is the mecca of all colorist in Philadelphia.
BEST OF THE BEST!!! – As a New Yorker I usually have a very difficult time finding anything as good as, that compares to or even comes close to all the offerings that NYC has (shopping, restaurants, SALONS etc) anywhere other than NYC. That ALL changed when I walked into Laurentius Salon two weeks ago. A colleague recommended L.S., specifically Kim when I mentioned that I needed a color while I was in Philadelphia for a couple of days for business. While I trusted this colleague I was still hesitant, but my hesitation was ALL for not! It is my sincere pleasure to share my experiences at Laurentius Salon. I knew when I placed the call to schedule this appointment that this was going to be very positive. What I didn't know was HOW positive it would be! The woman who scheduled my appointment was extremely polite, efficient and very pleasant. When arrived I was warmly greeted, offered a glass of wine (or other beverages) and introduced to Kim. Even though the salon was bustling, there was a obvious sense of calm and complete control, everyone was right on schedule and I was very pleased to actually have an appointment that was honored at the exact time that it was set for. Kim is so sweet, she immediately made me feel extremely comfortable and it was evident that she is a true professional in her field. I knew instantly that I was in very good hands. As I sat there "processing" I watched the staff (ALL so friendly) move around like a finely tuned machine, everyone was in complete sync with each other and the flow was beyond impressive. After checking and rechecking my color Kim finally felt that it was complete. As she dried my hair I was amazed HOW MAGNIFICENT my color looked! I can truthfully say (as a veteran of years of color treatments) this was THE BEST highlights and color that I had EVER had! I couldn't have been happier!
During this visit I saw more beautiful cuts and colors walk out of Laurentius Salon then any other salon that I have been .... and THAT INCLUDES NYC!!!!
A few days after my inital visit I felt that I needed a haircut and made the decision right then and there that I would wait until I was back in Philadelphia to have Laurentius cut my hair. GOOD decision! Laurentius along with being an amazing artist is one of the MOST down to earth, sweetest and fun stylists I've ever had the pleasure to meet. Watching him cut hair (mine specifically) is like poetry. He made it seem so effortless with the MOST awesome outcome. As with Kim, I couldn't have been happier, I love my hair!
The entire staff, Joe, Ed and the rest of the team at L.S. are darlings and I throughly enjoyed both of my experiences.
Even if I never had another reason to find myself in Philadelphia coming to this salon (every three weeks) is reason enough, I am NOW a confirmed "Philly Girl" (not really) solely because of Kim, Laurentius and the entire staff.
Thanks to all of them for the BEST color, style and great time! See you every three weeks!
Amazing salon, great color. Ani is #1! – I am not one to leave reviews but, after following my colorist to a new salon, I felt I just had to. I have been getting my color done by Ani for years. I have truly never been disappointed. From the funky and wild colors of my mid 20's to the natural look I now prefer, she has alway delivered. She is also very sweet and I always look forward to my visits with her. I was constantly upset with how my color looked until I saw someone's hair I really liked and asked them who did it. They of course told me about Ani and I have been happy ever since!
The new salon she works at is truly a wonder. It's sleek, modern and immaculate! To be honest, I went to her despite of her old salon, which seemed a bit mismanaged. When I first arrived at the salon I was really amazed when the owner came over to me, introduced himself, and thanked me for my business! If you are looking for somewhere cool to get your color done by an amazing colorist you should really check Ani out. You will be blown away by her work and will feel great knowing how good you're hair looks. Thanks Ani!!
Best Hair Salon in Philly – I love Laurentius Salon! I just moved here from NY a year ago, and I've been to at least 3 different salons in Philly, but never quite satisfied. I found out about Laurentius Salon from Allure magazine, so I decided to give it a try. Let me just say it was the best move I made!
My colorist, Ani, is so amazing. She was able to make my dark brown hair into such a natural and healthy looking blonde, which i never thought was possible.
And the salon itself is such a breath of fresh air compared to some other ones i've been to. Very professional but friendly at the same time. And a glass of wine while waiting for the color to process is definitely a plus :)
I Love This Salon! – I got a phone call recently informing me that my colorist of 5 years , Ani,has moved to this salon from another in the Rittenhouse area. I must say I was annoyed and a little afraid but the thought of going to anyone else scared me more so I schlepped it over to Laurentius Salon.
I can't tell you how happy I am that I made the switch!
I didn't know how much I was missing out on!
My color never looked so great! Plus, I was out of there in half the time it took at the other place. Everyone was soo nice!
Congratulations, Ani ,on a great move! You are the best!
You have always done an exceptional job on my hair. You are a true artist! I will return again and again!
I love my hair color – Ani Candidi is a godsend. She knows how to work with me when it comes to my color and I would follow her anywhere.
Ever since Ani left House Productions, I knew I had to make a choice: go with another colorist at house, or try to seek out and find Ani? Luckily, I didnt have to wait long before I got a call from Laurentius Salon letting me know Ani is now working there.
Let me just say that it was the best move a talent like Ani could make in this town. The place is like a modernist taj mahal of hair salons! So bright and professional and the staff is super warm and friendly.
Ani was able to spend time with me and help me choose a style that suits both my personality and my lifestyle. Hands down, Ani is the best!
I was worried about finding parking in S. Philly, but Laurentius has complementary parking in the lot right across the street, so getting there was not a hassle at all (no more worrying about feeding the meter, either!)
It's true that the prices here are only slightly more than what I was used to paying at House, but the service quality and atmosphere are light years beyond what I imagined. Definitely worth the change in routine!
SERIOUSLY THE BEST !!! Allure just confirmed it! – I just got my color done by Ani at Laurentius Salon. She was recommended by a friend of mine and I must say, now I know why my friend raved so much about her. My color is flawless and I've been to almost every high end salon in the city. So, when I was told to go to Laurentius salon, I was surprised because I had never heard of it. It's tucked away in the Italian Market area of Philly but they have free parking so that's a plus. Then when I was there I saw all the glowing reviews this place had even though they just opened a year ago. Allure just voted them with best color, manicure and blowdry.I am so lucky I found this salon and Ani!
