So not worth it! – Went here for lunch buffet. The selection is very limited - green salad, chicken cacciatore, beef, bowtie with marinara, fusilli with broccoli, corn (?) and mashed potato (?) Both meat dishes were very salty. Bottled marinara tastes better than the bowtie sauce. Cut-up bread was stale. And no dessert table.
No wonder, the restaurant is almost empty. Could be different for dinner, though.
I would never come here again.
Great food and Wonderful Service – All I can say is this little place is out of this world. I was in town on business and we were told by the staff at the Residence Inn in Oak Brook this was the place to grab Italian, the must go to joint in the area…they were not lying as this place was one of the best, no, it is the best Italian I have had in years. My business partner and I went in on a Tuesday night and I ordered the Lasagna and was impressed by the dish, more then I could eat, but I forced down every bit as there was no way I would ever leave anything that good on a plate. The salad dressing was out of this world and the bread was wonderful. The meal was so good we went back the next night, I had the 5 fingers and Vodka sauce…let me say that – WOW!!!! and I am planning on taking my wife there next month…willing to make a 3 hour drive for this food! Keep up the great work, the staff is great and those knocking the place, I am not sure you made it into the right place…both times I had a dinner, with dessert and with tip was under $40.00 bucks…the food is WONDERFUL! On con to the place is I don’t live closer
Best Italian in the Burbs – I love this restaurant! My Husband and I come here often for drinks and to enjoy some live music and dancing. We recently had dinner and was blown away. The portions are huge, which isn't great for the waist line, but the after dinner dancing helped work it off.
Love Love Love Capri!
It was only okay – We ate at Capri for the first time last night. When I walked in (my husband was parking the car), no one was standing at the maitre d' stand. I stood there for several minutes while two bartenders just stared at me and never bothered to get anyone to take care of me. FInally a bus boy came by and asked if I had been taken care, to which I replied no. He got the Maitre d' to take care of me. By this point, my husband had already come in as well.
We sat down at our table and, without exaggerating, waited just shy of 10 minutes before any server came to our table. I was very aggravated by this. When our server (Nick) finally arrived, he said to me, "Can I get ya kickin' with something to drink?" What kind of a server talks like that??? In all actuality, he was a very nice young man and very personable, but he needs to work on some etiquette. He talked with MANY of his customers all evening - so much so that we waited a very long time to get our check from him and get it back to sign the credit card slip. He was a social butterfly all evening! I like a personable server, but not someone who is constantly talking to the point where we can't get service.
As far as cuisine, I ordered the 8-finger cavatelli with vodka sauce. It was excellent. I used to make this homemade as a child with my mom and grandmother, so I'm always willing to try it in restaurants to see how it compares to the homemade stuff. I was not disappointed. My husband ordered lasagna. I had a small taste and thought it was terrible. I didn't like the tomato sauce and the meat tasted like cheap hamburger meat. I ordered a glass of house wine and it was $8.00 per glass. I thought that was terribly expensive. House wines are supposed to be LESS expensive. I was unimpressed with the wine list. Everything was by the bottle except for the very limited house wine selection. I asked to see an "after dinner liqueur" list and was told by our server that they didn't have one. I'm a full-blooded Italian...we like our liqueurs. If this is a "classic Italian restaurant," there should definitely be a liqueur menu.
The final straw was when I went to the bathroom. I went into the first stall and noticed that someone had actually vomited in there and it had not been cleaned up. In all fairness, I don't know if anyone knew about this because I didn't see one female employee in the entire place. However, this is supposed to be a nice restaurant - not a college bar. That's where I would expect to see vomit in a bathroom. So, I told our server and he was very nice and apologetic. I explained to him that I was not blaming anyone, but I felt I needed to bring it to someone's attention in order to get it cleaned up. I have no idea if it was taken care of because Nick proceeded to talk to his other customers at other tables.
All in all, I was not impressed with Capri Classic Italian Restaurant and will not go back again.
Disappointed – I was very disappointed when I finished my $80 dinner and was told that my dinningdough certificate was not valid as the management was changed and was not accepting those. They brought some printout stating that they do not accept it, which is not posted when you come in. The food was not good enough for me to come back to that place.
Food goes best with friends – From the moment you walk in the door you feel welcome. The atmosphere is warm and is only surpassed by the freindly staff.
We've had a wedding and shower here and MaryJo and Johnny went out of their way to make things great.
And the food as always is out of this world.
Fresh and expertly done.
The Best Sourthern Italian Food Anywhere – You can walk in and feel at home once you are greeted by MaryJo or John. How the waiter's remember the food orders without a screw up is amazing.
The Calamari Alla'Capri is always fresh lightly breaded and made to order. Never gummy unlike some of the competition (puke). Braicole' and Beef Neck bone sauce just like Mama use to make tender!
From the Chilian Sea Bass to the Eight Finger Cavitelli in Johnny's Famous Vodka Sauce; smooth, hot in tempature and the taste buds just die for it. Always a smiling face behind the bar and many in the room. Entertaiment is always a treat. On the light side you have have to try the MaryJo Special; Grilled Calamari with grilled vegtables. The produce is always fresh because it is hand picked and delivered by Amabile and Sons daily.
Great Food...Friends...& Entertainment – I had the pleasure of meeting Mary Jo almost one year ago...and it was the most pleasant experience ever. She treats you like family whether its the first time you meet or not. The staff is friendly...fast...and courteous. I have had the pleasure of Dining there on quite a few occasions, primarily because the Food & Servings are... HUGE...DELICIOUS & OUT OF THIS WORLD !! I'm also one of the Entertainers on Tuesday Nights which happens to be "STARS ON STAGE"...It features some of the Finest entertainers in the Northwest Suburbs hands down !!...I would recommend Capri Classic Italian Restaurant to all my friends & family. As a matter of fact, Im going to be there this weekend....October 10th 2009.... for their 1st Year Anniversary....I would Love to see you all there !!! CIAO BELLA !!!!!
There is Italian and there is REAL Italian! – Food is like music, it touches your memory buttons! When you hear a song from when times were easier, they mean so much to make you feel great inside!
When you find food that is so delicious and plentiful, you remember when you were young and when your mother or grand mother used to make those special meals made with love!
Quality ingredients and no short cuts! That's what I got from eating at Capri! Great portions, wonderful service, welcoming comfortable atmosphere, clean and very nice people who you can tell they really care that your satisfied!
I wish more places were like Capri! I had a VERY special party for some very special people in my life and Capri made it PERFECT!
A GREAT place for entertainment too!
Fantastic quality businesses should be supported so they can be around for a very long time!
Mangia! Mangia!! – It doesn't matter how often you go to the Capri, it doesn't matter what you order or how much you spend, you are greeted and treated like one of the Rovito or Grande families. Johnny has a special place in my heart for we never went to any of his wonderful restaurants without his hugs hello, coming to the table to let us know what was "special" or what he could do that wasn't on the menu to make our dinners memorable.
My husband Paul loved going to the Capri (had many business dinners there) and loved Johnny because he said he always felt "respected". He loved "his" 3 cheese gnocchi and whether it was on the menu or not, he was sure to have it at least 2 out of 4 times he was there. (Not if you go, but, when you go to the Capri---you just have to try it).
And Paul was so right, he was respected by Johnny, for the night of Paul's wake, in walked Johnny with his beautiful wife Michelle and he put a Capri business card in Paul's pocket. Johnny should know that Paul brought 2 cards with him to heaven, the other was the first one in his wallet.
Please do not listen to any negative reviews, try the Capri for yourself, they will do everything to please their customers. And you won't ever be disappointed.
Thank you Johnny and may you and Mary Jo be blessed to continue your wonderful venture.
