Reviews for LuckyStrike Chinese Restaurant

Ground zero for PDX lovers of spicy foods. If you like it REALLY hot, try the spicy pig intestine or “Hot Pepper Chicken Bath” and be sure to have plenty of water on hand.

Fun, fast service, Great food. – Wish I could remember our servers name as he was excellent. Food came fast. The ribs are wonderful. Heck, we liked it all.

EXPAND- you need more room :)

Good food, but bad service – We liked several items they had... we had food here twice: one to go, one dine in... Hot Pepper Chicken Bath (their most famous item) was good once and the other time, it was really spicy (I generally eat spicy food because of my origins)... but still I would order it again the next time I go there.

The pineapple chicken fried rice was surprisingly good (I don't like pineapple in my entrees, but this one after separating out the pineapple pieces out was really nice). However, we ordered it again and asked to make it spicy, which did not turn out as good.

The thousand year old egg appetizer was good. The dumplings was decent. The desert of sesame balls was good, similar to what it is at most other restaurants.

If it was just for food, i would have given 4 stars.

The biggest complaint for me with this restaurant is the service... we ordered all the items, including appetizers (for 5 of us) in one shot and the order we got the items was really weird... we got first appetizer after two entree items were served... and our final appetizer came right before our first entree... the server mentioned about this, after he brought two items...

It worked out okay for us as our group shared the items as and when they were served.

And the other thing I had problem with was that the table we were seated in were really messy (we were seated in the patio area, and the table wasn't clean when we were seated). And the server just picked some left-overs from previous guests... I did not feel like resting my hands on the table.

Unique Chinese Cuisine – We went to the Luck Strike for the first time today at the invitation of my brother-in-law and his wife. I've seldom had a better 'first impression" experience. Although the wait staff seemed a little disorganized, once we got our order in the dishes started to come out relatively quickly, and in reasonable order for the most part.

The good news; all of the food is excellent/notable for its flavor. We had six menu items, an appetizer and two other courses selected by both teams. Great combinations of spices that are strong in character but not overly hot. This is from someone who LOVES hot food, but my wife, who likes spicy but just short of hot, enjoyed everything without discomfort. In short, PERFECTLY balanced. There were plenty of small, well roasted red peppers in almost everything, so if you needed to "kick it up a notch" there was ample ammunition available at hand.

The extensive list of cocktails was exotic and well thought out, and most were unique in my experience. You can even get a hot, spicy cocktail to go with your food if you're REALLY into the "hot, hot, hot!" lifestyle.

The bad news: Mostly little things, but I'm a bit of a nit picker. The prices are very reasonable, and the portions are also reasonably sized, albeit a little on the small side. There is a $3.00 charge for a bowl of white rice (enough for 4), which would be better if it showed up near the beginning of the meal rather than toward the end.

As good as all the dishes were, the "twice cooked pork" with vegetables was very good, but should be described more like vegetables with twice cooked pork because the vegetables outweighed the pork, which was a shame because everybody loved it.

This could be the best Chinese restaurant in Portland with a little attention to detail.

I'll be back, and soon. If you like Chinese food with exceptional character, this is the place.

hot pepper in the air! – I love finding hole-in-the-wall type restaurants, which serve one of a kind food, in Portland and LuckyStrike is definitely one of them! 5 of us went on Friday night. We got there around 6:30 and waited for another 30 min to get seats. Large groups are not recommended here. While we waited, some of us started caughing and sneezing. Then we realized that we weren't the only ones doing it. As we drooled over various dishes covered in red peppers coming out of the kitchen, we were convinced that their air was 'contaminated' with hot pepper. As for food.......most are spicy and rich with flavors, so I advise you to also order something simple to go with your meal.

Amazing Chinese Food – This is a delicious restaurant. It is small. I went on a Sunday for lunch, so we got a table right away, but they were busy and had many take out orders while I was there. I don't know how many people were in the kitchen, but I assume two, and there was one server. So, I can imagine a wait for dinner. The service is a bit slow, but the food is worth it. Nice and spicy, in the Szechuan style. For the most part, it is not your standard chinese fare. They have a few standards, but nothing like sweet and sour pork or broccoli beef, as it seems to be strictly Szechuan. The spicy noodles with short ribs was one of the most delicious Chinese dishes I have ever had. I advise that you avoid the standards and have a dish you have never ordered before. It will be good! Although, I think they should ditch the T.V. and play some music instead. None-the-less, the food is amazing! I hope they open a location closer to city center! Not only would it be more convenient to me, but they would make a killing! It is worth the trip out to 122nd!

True Szechwan Food – I've eaten extensively in Szechwan, so trust me: You'll see Chinese restaurants everywhere claiming to serve Szechwan food, but they lie. They completely bastardize the dishes. Outside New York City, LuckyStrike is the only place I know of in America that serves the true food.

Szechwan is a unique and sophisticated cuisine: it uses very strong flavors and can be extremely spicy-hot, yet the flavors balance and play off each other as fascinatingly as French or any other cuisine. If you like spicy food, Szechwan is the best!

The service here is very friendly.
