Tips for Our House

October 02, 2012

This Friday, I was persuaded to try to get into Our House East at 1:15 a.m. after a night out at another bar.

While waiting in a barely-moving line in the rain for 25 minutes, I started talking to one girl who was rejected at the door because she had an out-of-state ID and no photo back-ups. I thought this was ridiculous, but stayed in line because even though I, too, have an out-of-state license, I had my Northeastern photo ID with me for back-up.

When my friend and I finally reached the entrance, the doorman asked for my license and then a back-up. I wasn't surprised because I had been warned. But then the doorman asked another worker what color he thought my eyes were. The worker said green/hazel. My license says blue. The doorman proceeded to confiscate both of my IDs and told me the only way I could get them back was if I was able to get a police officer to come verify them for me. He refused to ask me any questions from my license, look at my credit or debit cards that also have my name, or even look at my Facebook photos on my phone to prove that the IDs were really mine. My friend and I were forced to stand in the rain for an hour trying to call the Boston Police to send a cruiser to come help us. They said they wouldn't send anyone because it wasn't an emergency, but I would not be able to get into my dorm without the student ID that was confiscated.

I am 22 years old. Both of my IDs were real, mine, and valid. The treatment I received from the Our House doormen was outrageous. When a policeman happened to drive by an hour later and helped me get my IDs back, Our House had nothing to say about wrongfully accusing me. No apology. Nothing.

Please, I urge everyone to avoid this bar at all costs. Nothing but misery awaits you if you try to go there, I assure you. Connors and Punters are much better options for Northeastern students, and any of the Boylston St. bars are far superior for anyone else looking for a fun night out. Imagine how your night will go if your IDs are taken. I didn't think mine could be taken either. I'm past legal drinking age and had two real photo IDs that belonged to me. Apparently my eyes looked too green that night. And what a horrible night it turned out to be.

A Great Place. Definitely a great place to hang out. It is on the chill side (especially compared to Joshua Tree and the other bars nearby in Allston), but has potential to be more fun, wild, and loose on some nights.

The inside is very large and divided into lots of different rooms, so you have choices for where you wanna hang (there's 2 different bars). You can play pool, fooseball, arcade games, watch ESPN, or just hang out.

I love coming here any night of the week.

Fun place - once in a while. Almost every review on here is true, both the good ones and the bad ones. I've never tried the food, and probably never will. The drinks are cheap and cold. It's a dive bar: order bottled beer.

People who get on here complaining that they weren't enthused to see a bar crawl walk in, or that they didn't accept a credit card for a $7 tab, or that their draught beer wasn't any good need to chill out, or better yet, go wait in line across the street at Joshua Tree.

Bad bar, bad management, bad everything.... I walked into this dive bar, and it looked like a college dorm room and smelled even worse. I should have left at the sight of it. I decided to stay for a drink, which was another huge mistake. When the beer arrived it smelled horrible and tasted just like it smelled. I tried to send it back and the waitress told me that the next beer I got was coming from the same place and would taste the same. When I tried to pay the total came to $7 and they refused my credit card. When I told the manager that this was against card policy, he stated that he didn't care and there was nothing he could do about it. Which was all a BIG LIE. If you can avoid this place do so at all costs...unless you are standing someone up who you really HATE or want to break up with.

Absolute worst. Our House West is pretty fun if you feel like smelling garbage and hanging out with dirty hippys. Their manager is a mangy human being. Seriously though, this is the worst place I've ever been. Our House East is at least fun, and not full of dirty hippies. No but seriously, I'd rather spend a year in Kosovo then go back to Our House West. But really, it's the worst place ever. No, really, absolutely horrible. Terrible. Just terrible.

WORST BAR IN ALLSTON! and they steal your money!. Ok so I use to always go to our house because it was cheap. Then i noticed that my tab kept getting larger and larger even though i always got the same thing. I had a feeling that the bar tender was ripping me off so i went to a waitress to order a drink so i could prove that the guy behind the bar was over charging me....and what do you know, he must have added 10 bucks to my tab. I questioned the bartender and he told me to leave. I asked for a manager and he replied that he was the manager. if you go there keep your eye you for an asian guy behind the bar also, dont eat anything there because ive seen too much (this site blocks words that describe it) go there once and youll know what i mean.

best hangout in brighton. I've been going to this place for years now. I started going when I went to bc and keep coming back. Our house is a great place to relaxand grab a few beers with some friends. There is ussually a good crowd on the weekends. My favorite night is thursdays at our house, theres just something about the people on thursdays that i like.

Great hang out. I love this place. I had lived in the area for years and never even knew it was there. A friend dragged me in and I absolutely loved the place. It feels like your hanging out at a house, hence the name. The drinks are cheap and there is plenty of talent there.

Had to respond to "the staff is friendly". I've been going out in Boston for a few years now, and the staff is the worst I've ever encountered. I was there on a Pub Crawl (for which Our House voluntarily signed up) and the staff was visibly upset at having such a large group of people in their establishment. They had no problem taking out their feelings on those of us who were part of the Crawl. I understand that a group of that size can be a challenge, but none of the 12 other bars on the Crawl handled the situation as badly as Our House.

Great atmosphere and cheese fries. This place is fantastic. When I lived in Brighton we would come here whenever we wanted to kick back and have a beer in a place where there are people, but not TOO many people, that definately feels like a bar but not TOO much like a bar. They have cheap beer and their cheese fries are absurdly satisfying--get them. The music they play is also notably good, a great variety and stuff you don't hear at most bars. One thing that is less-than-cool is it's not too smoker-friendly, because if there's a line to get in and you go outside to smoke, you have to get at the end of the line and wait to get in again. Maybe they've changed that, though, I haven't been there since I quit. All in all, two thumbs up.
