So after reading all these other people's post I decided that this may be a great salon so I give it a try today. I didn't make any preference because the receptionist told me that every stylist is senior stylist, they are all on the same level, so I automatically assume that everyone works there knows how to cut a men's hair if that's the case but, turns out that not everyone. The level of confidence to me from the salon really comes from its location, I mean it is situated right upside Mandarin, I goes "how bad could it be?", which again has proven me that I am an extremely shallow person.
When I gets there, I was introduced to Kayla, I showed her the picture, and I explains very clearly that I want no funky stuff, clean, classic, nothing special, student hair. But she seems a little lost when discussing with me then she seems like she knows what to do. She tends to have a problem of communicating with customers and she doesn't know what she's doing. She clearly is a amateur and she disagree with customers although I have told her what I want and what she should do after she did something wrong to my hair. She just do what she wants and finally she fxxked up.
So overall the experience I had today was beyond rubbish, I am sorry. But thats the truth. Poor communications problems with customers, acknowledge the problem without addressing it. I mean how hard could it be to cut a simple men's hairstyle? I am expecting to pay more than 100 dollars to ask for something that should be extremely easy (to the majority group of stylist or barbers), and she still fxxked up. And the most craziest part was she doesn't feel bad about the situation, she still feels good by some reason, I mean if you show me some tiny bit of sense that you may have done something wrong then I wouldn't be writing this review. To me she seems like she don't belong there, she just works there for fun. Why would you hire someone like that? did her father open the salon? And if so please dont let your daughter out and sabotaging people's life. And finally the salon offers me a refund and offer me that there is another stylist who can help me to fix it which I denied, because I have basically nothing to work with. So lesson learnt people, dont judge a book by its cover.
Over-rated – A friend gave me a gift card to Mizu...normally I stay away from the Boston salons, as I find them over priced. But I thought I would treat myself to a cut & color.
They called 15 minutes before my appointment to tell me she was running 10 minutes late. OK - nice of them to tell me. So I show up a little late...and wait and wait and wait. She was over 45 minutes late! I loved the cut & color, but I thought it was way overpriced.
The receptionist was snobby - I'm sorry, but anyone who's dropping $230 on a cut & color deserves a little courtesy. Also - even though they are in the Pru mall, she didn't tell me until after that they didn't validate for the mall. That would have been nice to know when I booked the appointment! And since they were so late, I was 10 minutes shy of going over the 5 hour discount limit at the Pru lot.
And I thought the salon was very sterile....you can be modern with some personality. I don't think I'll be going back.
best of boston – I moved to Boston seven years ago and over the past seven years I have been to almost every salon in the city - Gretta Cole, Mario Russo, James Joseph, Hot Gossip, Aveda - you name, I've tried it. They were all ok (some better than others,) but none of them were a good fit for me. My hair was always just OK, the stylist was always just OK... But I was really looking for someone who does an amazing job with my hair, someone who listens to what I want and someone I enjoy being around for an hour or so every couple of months. I found all that and much much more when i met Charles Maksou at Mizu. He did an amazing job on my highlights and my cut. I think it's the best cut/color i have ever had in my life. Plus, he was so pleasant to work with. He has a fantastic personality and i instantly trusted him 100%. I am happy to say that I have finally found my perfect stylist.
Mizu exudes breathtaking design; exit with hair to match. – If Vidal Sassoon embodied '60s mod chic, Mizu is swanky '70s sci-fi, with an all-white palette, floor-to-ceiling windows and arches that flow through the length of the room. Without a top-notch team though, the eye-catching design would be pure hyperbole. This is where another progressive follow-through comes in: Elan Sassoon, son of the revolutionary cut-man Vidal, owns the salon. As its name suggests--Mizu is Japanese for water, invoking fluidity--the salon’s talented team doesn’t adhere to rigid fashion rules and instead shapes hair to suit the individual. Mizu is equal parts style and substance: Function is not lost to form.
So Much Potential – So I followed my stylist Samantha to Mizu from James Joseph Salon, and I was so disappointed. It is a beautiful salon though a little sterile, and it's much calmer than JJS, It has that new salon smell and has a lot of sinks. The assistant pointed out that they have more sinks per stylist than other salons, so I doubt they will ever have a wait for a sink. I had to wait a few minutes once for a free sink when I used to go to JJS.
Mizu has all the makings of a great salon, but it lacks soul. No one seems happy to be there, and a lot of the stylists that were working there have alreadt left, INCLUDING SAMANTHA! I was waiting to write this review until she left because I couldn't say anything bad until she had moved on to Marc Harris Salon. I wish she went back to JJS. I liked it in spite of the crowds. Mizu fealt like a ghost town after JJS. I hope I like MHS!
LIARS!!! – These people are such LIARS. I called this week to book an appointment with my favorite stylist Giovanni at Mizu and the gentleman I spoke to (Elan I believe was his name) informed me that Giovanni had moved to NY.
Giovanni called me two days later and informed me that he is now at salon Marc Harris in the Ritz downtown where I promptly booked my cut and color!!!
Business is about trust respect loyalty and honesty. The staff at Mizu in my opinion are lacking on all fronts.
Samantha is amazing – I Just want to support my hair stylist of over 6 years, Samantha is just amazing!!! i came with her from james joseph salon. When i first came to sam my hair was a mess... brassy and orange. i had heard about her from two of my co workers. she was highly reccomended!!! And i saw her work, well what can i say, i get stopped on the street at least once a day with complements on my color and cut! i have to say, i LOVE my hair.. Samantha has the best personality, and is ALWAYS in such a good mood, she is truly an artist at what she does, and you can tell she loves her job! thanks so much Samantha for 6 years of AMAZING hair! best of luck at your new salon, you have a client for life.
Best Color in Boston – I was walking through the Prudential Center and could not resist but walk into this place as it looked amazing and I was in need of color so decided to check it out. Maite did my hair and it was the best color and cut I have ever had in my life, and that is saying ALOT! The salon could not be cooler, and offers every amenity you could imagine and the price is unreal! Based on the look and location, I guessed I was really spoiling myself but I was pleasantly surprised! It was worth every penny. I have found my new salon....
This place is AMAZING!!!!!! – I followed my stylist from Newbury St to this salon at the Mandarin Hotel and it looks like NOTHING I've ever seen in my life. The place is gorgeously modern and clean, the people are wonderful and the products they are using are much better than the other salon I was going to. This place is a must- see even if it just to walk through. The prices are completely reasonable for downtown Boston too, which is a relief.
Editorial Review – High-end luxury salon, led by Vidal's son Elan Sassoon, features "intelligent hair design" and array of coloring, retexturing and styling services.
