They don't have as many draft lines as other beer bars, but the selection at ProTap is always smart and seasonal.
Visit here often: The rotating selection of beers on tap is remarkable, with often difficult-to-find gems being pulled. And the food, which tends toward the comforting but never boring, is tailor made for pairing with...well, all that wonderful beer.
Best Burger By Far – I went to Prohibition for the 3rd time last night and decided to research there blog cred on the internet. It seems that everyone feels the same way I do about this place except the guy here before me seems odd. I have eaten nothing but perfectly prepared burgers time and time again. Some other things that stand out are the beer battered green beans, french onion soup, and grilled cheese with apples, arugula, and bacon, wow. As far as the beer is concerned they have whatever your pleasure is, I think there is 60 bottles on a well thought out list. The drafts are always different and always award winning ales, oh and they have a hand pump. As far as service goes the staff is great nothing but informed, and friendly. Perfect place cant wait till these guys open up a taproom in my hood.
Too much attitude for a local bar – The food is good pub fare, it's a cool setting, and the juke box is great, but the staff and friends of staff cliente (their only clientele it seems) make this place too cool for school and extremely unwelcoming. Could be 4 or 5 star establishment with even a slightly courteous staff.
Corner beer bar in the nearly abandoned Loft District sheds some promising light on the neighborhood's future. – In Short
With all of the capacious and polished gastropubs that opened around the same year as Prohibition Taproom, one might expect it to be a little more, well, yuppified. But there's not a yuppie within shooting distance of this hipster dive that, considering its bona fide gastro menu and a beer list that holds its own against the better beer bars in town, might actually take exception to a "dive" designation. But despite its name, there's nothing retro or speakeasy about the interior and the gigantic outdoor neon sign that sets its abandoned warehoue neighborhood alight to announce its presence to all as "BAR" pretty well sums up what one finds once inside the door: an utter absence of interior décor, a long wooden bar, loud juke-box music, a few high-top tables, a sturdy assortment of filling food and a pretty darn good selection of beer.
