I had a wonderful meal here recently ... it's crowded on weekends, but that is testament to how good the food is! Wonderful service as well. I will be back and highly recommend.
Sturdy Quality Food – Reliable upscalish neighborhood spot. Popular for brunch but if you are more of the foody type who is more into substance go here for dinner because I think they mostly shine at dinner time with roasted meats and veggies. Try to order their daily specials because it's usually tried and true and represents what the restaurant seems to be most passionate about. Service there when I went for dinner was excellent.
eh, neh – Ok, the chicken is good BUT they put it ontop of the waffle. The heat from the chicken makes the waffle a steamy mushy mess. It doesn't taste like cheddar at all.
Insecure Waitress!!! – The owner of Buttermilk channel has brought a great restaurant and experience to this neighborhood. He is really kind and great with guests. For the most part the staff have been really great except for tonight.
Our server (one of the more 'mature' women servers) was particularly rude and over-the-top attentive to my husband - to the point where she filled his water glass and not mine, despite the fact that I was extremely thirsty from my salty scallop dish. After an entire evening of being overly gracious to my husband, I asked for the check (women do pay the bills as well) and her eye balls popped out of her head. She handed the bill back to my husband and not me.
Very rude and lacking class. I wish the food could have made up for the lack of service. Not sure I will go back unless I am hung over and in desperate need of brunch.
Disappointed – I had been wanting to try this place out for a while now so when friends suggested brunch there I was ready to chow down. I ordered the Eggs Huntington (poached eggs on biscuits with hollandaise). Once my plate arrived I was immediately disappointed. The biscuits were puny in size and there was barely any hollandaise over the eggs. Once I cut into my "poached" eggs they were very overcooked. They were more boiled with a hard yolk. It wasn't just my eggs either but also my friend's who ordered the same thing. However the burger another friend ordered looked delicious (she confirmed it). I'll definitely give this place another chance but just won't be ordering the same thing.
Good Food – My friend and I was told this was a nice place - nice it is. The service is really excellent. Everyone there is so attentive. However, I wish there were a little bit more options on the menu. Otherwise, I enjoyed myself.
Good interior but too loud – Not into the loud hipster feeling but does have a great interior. Went a couple times for a late brunch burger. The burger and fries are not that inspired. Kevin's in Red Hook is many times better.
My favorite neighborhood restaurant – Buttermillk Channel has definitely been my favorite neighborhood restaurant since opening a little more than a year ago. They've gotten it right from the start, with service being one of the most important aspects of the restaurant, along with a reasonably priced menu. The burger is I believe, $11 and comes with cheese (some places they get you for a few more bucks with cheese) making it one of the best deals in the area. The fried chicken has developed a rep and with good reason..its fantastic, crispy on the outside, juicy in the middle and the cheddar waffles and syrup are amazing. Go BC!
Meh. – Arrived at 8pm on a Sat. night to be told it's a 90 min. wait- but we sat at the bar and got served asap. The hosts/bartenders/servers were incredibly friendly and helpful, wonderful people. But the food was very overrated. I had the sweet potato/goat cheese croquettes, which were bland and greasy (and goat cheese and sweet potato are 2 of my favorite foods on earth!) I was starving and didn't even finish them. The mozzarella was bland on the "snacks" menu, and the rabbit rouilletts (sp?) were great but the pesto was dripping with oil.
For entrees, my hubby got the fried chicken which was also bland (but juicy) and generally overrated (the slaw it came with was great though). He asked for 2 breasts but one was a strange cut w/out a lot of meat on it. One tasted almost undercooked.
I got the duck meatloaf, which was too salty. The onion ring it came with was totally tasteless, and the turnip/parsnip puree was just ok.
Hubby got the root beer float for dessert which was WAY too wintergreen-y. My cappuccino was terrible. BUT my choc/caramel tart was AMAZING. I practically licked the plate.
All that, w/one glass of wine, was $100 for dinner. PLEASE save your money and go elsewhere! It is SO not worth your time (90 mins? Really??) and money considering all the other amazing options in Brooklyn. I mean, fried chicken? How the eff do you mess that up??
