Best Vietnamese Gourmet Sandwich – The classic Pork Banh Mi is so good because the baguette is crispy on the outside but soft on the inside: the perfect carbohydrate to absorb the residual alcohol in your system the next day. The 4 different types of meat (pork, terrine, and pate) hit the spot although the pate tasted slightly weird. The freshness and slight tartness of the pickled carrots, cucumber and cilantro in the sandwich replenishes the starving cells with nutrients. The catfish sandwich is pretty good too. This is my number 1 hangover food in NYC at $5 (although I think it’s $6 now). There are only about 8 seats at the counter so be prepared to do a take-out.
Banh mi sandwiches near the Baruch College campus. – After decades of honing the craft of banh mi in her homeland, owner Thao Nguyen brings a taste of Vietnam to the Baruch College campus. The restaurant offers imaginative variations on the classic banh mi sandwich, with options that include catfish with cucumber relish and barbecued chicken with pickled daikon. The more traditional pork variety--made with layers of pulled pork, pate and pork terrine--is as good here as it is anywhere. The tiny space may feel a bit claustrophobic during the lunch and dinner crush, but the crowds just reinforce the fact that Baoguette is the real deal.
