Close to the Wortham.
I used to go here for its great happy hour before the Angelika closed. The rolls were huge and delicious.
I went recently and was all excited for my friend to try out the bargain-priced sushi. It tasted like grocery-store sushi. My friend also said the fish did not taste fresh.
She ordered from the regular menu and said the sushi was delicious.
Their happy hour menu looked tacky in a dirty table tent. The hh items also changed. Drinks are $1 off during hh and are from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.
We had good service at the bar. On a Thursday night, they restaurant had about 15 tables filled. The bar area only had three parties.
I miss the old Banzai!
One of the many great poisons in life!. I stopped by Banzai sushi before and after my show on Tuesday and sat at the bar with a group of friends. And you should definitely order the flaming Dr. Pepper. The bartender definitely put on a great show spitting fire. Great entertainment. I have been to many different Japanese Restaurants around Houston but no other restaurant can compare to the outgoing environment of Banzai Sushi. The great Sushi rolls that the chefs prepare daily, the cheerful greeting once you walk in, and the great food that comes out so fashionable. The sushi rolls are the best amongst the best. Creations that you can not find anywhere else in Houston. Great Food, Good Service, I am Speechless!
Best sushi spot downtown!. Banzai's "Xrated Kiss" martini is one of my favorite drinks in Houston! They have this great Mexican-Japanese fusion ceviche with fried wonton "chips." I love their namesake "Banzai" roll which leaves out the rice and seaweed and instead wraps yellowtail, tuna, salmon, veggies, & a citrus sauce in cucumber. The "Genki" is also fabulous, spicy tuna and cucumber topped with salmon, avocado, and mango-mustard. Also, if they're not too busy, it's fun to sit at the sushi bar and ask the chefs to use their imaginations to create something.
Never Again. We decided to take advantage of the Restaurant dot com$25 off 50 deal. This place is right by Verizon and Hard Rock at Bayou Place. Nicely decorated, but that is about it. The sushi and rolls were horrible. They have a crab "mix" on their menu instead of actual crab. When I want sushi, I want real, authentic, FRESH fish. The tuna in the rolls we ordered was mushy warm. Even though there was only 2 other tables in the whole restaurant while we were there, we were constantly left with our drinks empty since our waitress never walked around enough. We waited way too long to get the waitress to bring us our check too. I did not think you could screw up sushi so much, but I was proved wrong!
good service and better food.
when i went there for the first time, it was just ok, but later this place was changed and everything got better. food, service and manners. after that i been going there almost 4 times a week and still enjoying. and the manager remembers almost every people who comes.
This is truly the epitome of west coast sushi..... Ok, i've been to every sushi place in houston and have come across alot of good places....BUT! this is the perfect west coast sushi place ive come across since hawaii and a few places in LA and san diego. The sushi peaces are huge and the quality of the salmon, tuna, and escolar are superb. I never give such a good review but this place is worth it. Try it and buy the sushi chef a beer for a great experience.
Good service don't be fooled by the others!. Well I came to Houston for a business trip and stayed at the Hyatt in Downtown Houston, the stay was nice although not as balmy as in Washington, but humid. I decided to walk around after my meeting and I love sushi so I decided to check out Banzai sushi at Bayou Place not too far of a walk but concierge got me a cab. When I walked in the place was somewhat busy given it was a Friday afternoon and the first thing I noticed was no hostess so I waited a few minutes, not too long after a man in glasses come out from the office and greets me. I don't think he spoke English because he rushed me to a table grumbling booth or table I don't know if he was commanding me to either but he was rude and the worst part about it was he wreaked! He smelled so bad I wanted to leave he was wearing a Banzai black shirt and he looked like he ran around and sweated I think that it was unprofessional to have no hostess and rush a customer off like that. I don't know who this man with the glasses was but he smelled. I wanted to leave but seeing I was already here I decided to give it a go. I had a very nice server I think she was friendly and fast. She opened my napkin for me and explained the menu entirely, given I haven't been in Houston for years and Seattle is different. I decided to order salmon sashimi, red devil, and spicy tuna pagoda very delicious! I had wonderful service and it seemed to get busier but my server was very nice she was quick and very friendly. The fish was so fresh and I loved the the spicy crunch of the red devil very generous portions! I loved the dressing on the salad and I decided to top of my meal at the bar while I wait for my cab. I tried a specialty drink and it was phenomenal the bar tenders were so nice and chatty I loved talking to them and the crowd was pretty nice. I did have problems leaving because that awful man came back and he came up to me again and this time it was horrendous! He asked how my meal was I think since he muttered a lot and he smelled even worse, it seemed so unsanitary I didn't know whether to hold my nose or tell him, so I just left. Food was great service was nice and fast but only thing for the manager to know whoever that man is with the glasses PLEASE fire him! His hygiene is disgusting! I don't even know what he was or if he worked there but he needs to be gone he is bringing down the place. To the owner or manager: PLEASE FIRE HIM!
Horrendous Service-Never go if you want to eat w/ respect.
The service was HORRENDOUS. Some asian lady with long hair with a little dark skin was serving that night, and she was extremely rude. As far as I know she serves there quite often usually at night time. She put the plates on the table like we don't deserve to eat there, and she just ran for another table, not even saying a word. We were just shocked to see that kind of nasty service in a nice restaurant with great food. Only good thing was its food, but the disgusting service gave us good enough confirmation of NEVER going back there.
I will make sure that all my friends won't go to there for whatsoever. If you want to eat with pleasure, this place surely be listed on your never-go-to list.
convenient to downtown theaters. The service is still spotty. The food is average compared to other sushi restaurants in town. The only thing going for the restaurant is that you can walk to the Hobby Center, Jones Hall, or the Alley theatre after you eat. Otherwise there are better restaurants downtown to use your money.
First time & LAST time !!!!. I went there for lunch , it took the server for 10 - 15 mins to get me water while the restaurant wasn't busy at all ! The foods were nearly all tasteless if it wasn't come with the sauce/dressings. I'll never go back !!!! Yet , I don't think their bento lunch box worth $10 !!! It wasn't about the money , the foods were just awful !! I went to a lot of different Japanese restaurant and this is the worst that I've seen !!!
