While 42nd Ave has yet to possess the charm and walkability of Mississippi or Alberta Street, NePo 42 attempts to fix this by bringing quintessential Portland to the east side. Blazers games, free pool, craft beers and brunch ensures a blossoming 42nd Ave will be built around NePo 42.
Don't go, its not good. – Being from the hood, I would love to like this place. But the food is terrible and one of the staff seems to have some socialization issues. We went in on a Saturday night and were completely ignored by the bearded waiter after our first round of drinks. When we brought it to his attention, we where yelled at and told that we should have gone to the bar. He was a complete ass. Don't go, it's not good.
Not Worth It – We went in, ordered a drink at the bar, and were given the feeling that we were bothering the bartender....that we were wasting his time. After each ordering a drink, we asked for a menu, and were sneered at. We then sat down, and the server took our orders. The server also acted like we were wasting his time. It was very odd. The vibe was almost like they were "too cool" to serve us. We ordered appetizers and an entree. After waiting quite a long time, the appetizer came out WITH the entree. I said, "Oh, I thought the appetizer was coming out first." The server snapped back, "You NEVER SAID you wanted the appetizer first.", then turned and WALKED AWAY. He never even made eye contact, just walked away, so I couldn't even reply! Sadly, his attitude and the attitude of the bartender really soured our Friday evening. We spent over $30 that night, plus tip, and walked out feeling jipped and pissed off. We are local neighbors, and would have been happy to give this establishment our business, and even spread the good word. But, they were so rude and "cooler than thou", that we will NEVER GO BACK. In fact, we've spread the word to friends and neighbors to NEVER GO TO NoPo42. Oh, I forgot the mention, the food sucked and was over-fried. What a waste. I hope the owner reads this and realizes the kind of staff he has on Friday nights. Especially in this economy, you treat your customers like crap AND dish out shitty food, you can't expect to last too long. Just plain foolish.
This place sucks ASS!!! – Are you kidding me? This place is more than a waste of your time and money. There are hundreds of restaurants in Portland, a trip to the 7/11 for a gut bomb corn dog and a slurpee would be better than the food at this place. We got there, had a beer (the beer was the only redeeming thing in the place) and ordered food. I had the "Hangar Steak" and i asked for it to be cooked medium. Did you "hang" it outside in the hot sun, it was like jerky! I, only when asked by the server, was asked how it was. I politely said "over done and literally char-broiled" He said, wait for it...OK and walked away. When we were finished, after 40 minutes of waiting, we gave up and went inside to pay!
The moral of the story is, Don't.Eat.Here.
Warm Smiles and Great food! – The people at Nepo42 are wonderful. The service is always spot on and friendly. The food has some imagination and the Smokey hot wings are meaty and dependably good. There is an ample selection of tasty beer and cold cider on tap. The menu options offer a variety for most and the chief behind the scenes sure seems to enjoy his work. There are specials that change to keep things fresh and the flavors go beyond your typical bar fare.
It has become a welcome weekly retreat for our little group of family and friends. It is small but that add to the charm. This place is a welcome addition to the neighborhood and has that your welcome anytime feel to it. Wednesdays and Blazer game nights are busy so the atmosphere changes from the rest of the week. All and all great place.
Who is rating this ? – I see that most posts are only by people who have only rated this place. Friends/Employees of the establishment ?
Thanks for offering delicious food in a clean space in NE! – If you're looking for deelish food, great beer options and free pool in a friendly, clean pub setting this is a fantastic option. The service is very friendly and I love coming here for happy hour and for brunch. I was thrilled to introduce the place to friends of mine who have since become big fans of the spicy bacon bloody mary. Even though I'm not a big meat eater I do love the burgers here.
I don't understand all the parking comments made by others as there is plenty of space on 42nd to park. If the spots up front are taken walking the ten or so feet from the street to the front door is well worth it.
my "second living room" – My boyfriend and I have been going to NEPO since it first opened, and we have had a consistently positive experience. The food rocks, the beer selection is great, and everyone working there is friendly and passionate about what they do. I spent many a Blazers game there with a basket of smoky, delicious 25 cent wings and a few friends, and the introduction of Pub Quiz trivia night has kept me highly entertained (and questioning my intellect) for the last few Thursday nights. I can't say how relieved I am to finally have a neighborhood bar on 42nd where I feel comfortable and welcome.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME? – golly jee-i went into this pub last night and heard it was a fabulous place. i don't know if the owner has his friends rate this place but i couldn't believe how bad the service was. the owner was cheeky and acted as though it was a chore to serve me. excuse me sir-i am spending my ducketts in your establishment. the food was great but i will not be coming back! it looks as though the owner has been working way too much and is quite apparent that he needs to hire some help. it seems there is no excuse as there is a huge talent pool to chose from in bridge city. a hint for you-you never know who your serving and you should treat everyone with sincere service.
Nice local pub – My wife and I just enjoyed an evening here for our first time, drawn in part by the free appetizer coupon offered by Citysearch. We generally liked Nepo 42 and will probably go back. The menu was definitely typical pub fare, which is fine I suppose for a quick bite. Highlights included the slightly spicy pulled pork sandwich and the fresh hummus. The best offering here though is the beer taps, which offer a nice mix of local and other beers.
Delicious food! Best by far on 42nd Street. – This restaurant is a VERY welcome addition to the edge of Cully/Concordia. 42nd street has a few restaurants, but none of them approach the quality and environment of Nepo 42nd. It?s not what you would expect from the surrounding buildings on 42nd Street. The atmosphere is pleasant with warm colors, wood booths, and dim lighting in the evening. The service is very friendly. We've been here twice now, once for dinner and once for brunch. Both meals were delicious. As a vegetarian/carnivore mixed couple, we were both pleased to see many tempting dishes to choose from. Their homemade veggie burger was very tasty and the hand cut fries were great. My husband really enjoyed the ribs and his sides. My mom had the mac?n?cheese and loved it. At brunch the omelets were very good and the biscuits were good, too. The servings were generous with potatoes, toast, and fruit with the omelets. They have a great beer list and we look forward to joining them for happy hour, Blazers Games, and free pool. They are kid friendly until 9pm each day and our baby has been welcome both times we were there. Our only complaint ? no changing station in the restrooms.
