Reviews for Ryles

Great place to see Jazz in Cambridge. – Since 1919, this historic Inman Square jazz club has featured national musicians such as Arturo Sandoval, McCoy Tyner, Maynard Ferguson, Jon Hendricks, and the Count Basie Orchestra. The venue?s large windows on Hampshire Street lure you in to hear their fantastic live music. The club?s first floor performance space has a jazz theme with instruments and framed pictures of jazz legends on the wall, and dim lighting to set the mood. Their dinner menu features BBQ ribs, pulled pork, and seafood options including barbecued shrimp, fried catfish, and Maryland crab cakes. But jazz isn?t the only music on the menu. Brazilian, blues and swing bands perform nightly. Ryles is also a dance lovers paradise with weekly salsa, merengue and cha-cha classes. They also have a hugely popular Sunday Jazz Brunch with live music, fresh strawberry mimosas, Bavarian French Toast, and over 10 types of omelets.

Great Jazz Brunch – I don't write reviews too often, but I had to write one about Ryles, especially since these others don't reflect the experiance I had.

I thought their Jazz Bruch was terrfic. Good music, great food and prices. I got the freshly squeezed OJ and the Bavarian French Toast (Stuffed with cream cheese and jam) delicious!

I did have trouble flaggin down a waiter, but once I did the service was acceptable. I will defiantely be back and soon :)

Relaxing Music Venue – I went here to see some Portugese Jazz and it was a nice venue to see a performance. The service was good and bottles of wine were cheaply priced. We only had drinks, no food (other than a simple appetizer).

It fills up quickly as it gets closer to the performance time and it can be hard to get a table. The bar is quite large and looked inviting.

Went on a non-music night, food so-so – Haven't been able to find any good BBQ in Boston. Tried this place on a whim while in Inman. We were the only table and the service was okay. The food was just average, it wasn't very saucy, and the meat was kinda tough. The hushpuppies were really bland. There was a bumping after work group upstairs though. Seems like it would be fun when there's music.

Though local jazz venues tend toward upscale settings, neighborhood jazz is alive and well at this Inman Square fixture. – The Scene
Ryles is partly responsible for the artsy/bohemian image that clings to this part of Cambridge; the club's outer wall mural has become as familiar a neighborhood sight as the deli across the street. Inside Ryles you'll find a relatively spartan, wood-tabled setting and a slightly plusher large bar upstairs. (On most nights both levels have music, with the larger groups playing the top level). It's a no-frills setting for serious playing and listening. Performers are drawn equally from the local music and national cult-hero circuits.

The Draw
Bigger names drop in just often enough to keep Ryles' reputation strong--but daily, count on catching some of the best local jazz musicians, known and unknown. The upstairs portion of the club features dancing on Thursday (salsa) and Saturday night (swing), and a popular jazz brunch on Sunday. An accessible, affordable menu of smoky barbecue and shareable appetizers keeps the crowd nourished.
