I received a great massage and hope to go back soon. And I really appreciated that the owner agreed to honor an expired gift certificate I'd received for Christmas but just hadn't gotten around to making use of. =)
I love this place. Let me begin by saying Rod gave me one of the best massages I have ever received: listened to my concerns, used deep, firm pressure, stretched me out, it was soooo relaxing and rejuvenating.
I used to go to Aveda salon/spas, because I like that they have the steam room/sauna or hot tub you can hang out in for 15 minutes or so before you go in to get your massage. AHH is awesome because you have your own PRIVATE facilities. That means: your own massage room plus an adjoining room with toilet and shower, hairdryer and sink, your own private sauna, your own private soaking tub. It's all quite luxurious. Everything is clean, relaxing and calming.
Rack prices are average/a good deal considering the amenities, but even better, you can purchase discounted packages right on their website. Also, I got a 20% off coupon for myself and my referral on a next visit.
I believe this is a totally unique and THE BEST place to get a massage in Portland.
Not only have all of my experiences with Angelic been great, but i have referred my friends to their services and all of them have been pleased with the experience. I highly suggest it.
I also agree with DrewM436 and KCB599. The negative reviews must be coming from a disgruntled ex-employee or some competitor. I've been going to Angelic Healing Hands for 5 years and I've never had a bad experience. I've seen a variety of therapists (whoever happens to be available on the day I'm dying for a massage) and have tried all three locations (downtown, Murray, and SAC). Everyone is very professional, courteous, and clearly well trained.
My mother was a massage therapist (now retired) who also owned a bookstore at a school in Arizona that offered AA degrees in healing arts. I used to spend a lot of time there being the "guinea pig" in some of the classes when teachers needed to demonstrate massage techniques to students as well as when students needed a body to practice on to earn their hours and/or get feedback on their techniques. So believe me when I say I know a good professional massage when I get one. All the people that I have met with and received massages from at Angelic Healings Hands have met my high standards and the prices have always been very reasonable given the high quality of the service.
And to top off the praise, I've sent many of my girlfriends to Angelic Healing Hands over the years and all of them have had positive experiences every time they have gone.
I have not spent time with Rod Dudley, the owner, in the last couple of years. THAT being said, I met him over a decade ago, when he was just getting going. I know from watching behind the scenes as he built his business from himself to several locations with many employees, and as a customer, what kind of business person Rod is. He has always done things the right way, and he has always been concerned about the value of services to the patient in addition to patient comfort and professionalism.
Based on these things, I highly doubt the rash of extremely negative ratings. I suspect a disgruntled employee or competition who did not make the grade. I would like to point out that these ratings all have the exact same tone. While using different words, the verbiage is over the top, and the words chosen often a little too creative.... Sounds like someone with a vendetta. Let me tell you, Rod can keep his cool and politeness together despite situations that would cause others to lose it. He is a professional, and he has put his heart and life into Angelic Healing Hands.
Further, please note that nearly every one of these reviews uses the word 'masseuse'. A 'masseuse' is a person who does body work with lewd intentions. Rod is an LMT, as are his employees. That stands for Licensed Massage Therapist. These folks are professionals, trained in the healing arts.
I highly recommend Rod and any of his locations. I have always had professional, courteous, and competent care. I encourage you to treat yourself to the atmosphere, the care, and the healing hands on experience that Rod and his employees have to offer. You deserve it.
The owner Rod Dudley is something else -- I paid by phone for a massage based on his "holiday discount" but when I showed up he said the massage could not begin until I paid regular price since he had no record of the email with the discount offer. Since I had an iPhone, I showed him a copy and thought that this would speed things up. He said he needed to make sure the email was for the correct location and we were delayed by 20 minutes.
What is astounding is that I had booked the massage a week in advance and confirmed a day before, and I told Rod about the discount.
Either he wanted to cheat me of my money or delay my massage -- this man is dishonest whichever way you look at it no matter how many fake reviews he posts singing his own praises.
I see all these negative reviews and can't believe we have been to the same place! This place has awesome therapists and you can't beat the price. I would highly recommend Robin...but have been to many therapists here in the past 4 years and have never had a bad one. I think this is a case of someone trying to harm this business because I am VERY PICKY and keep recommending Angelic Healing Hands to my friends and co-workers.
I should have listened to my friends. They told me about this place being a rip-off. I figured that one or 2 bad experiences typically do not define a business, but this place is irredeemable. Rod (owner) booked the massage but did not communicate with his office staff so when I showed up, they did not have a record of a payment. It took 20 minutes for them to straighten out (Rod blamed the computer, his staff, everyone but himself).
In any case, I got an average massage but all the joy was sucked out by the stress of getting the payment stuff straightened out. I have gotten massages at a bunch of places in Portland but none of them are as shambolic as this one.
This is the most disorganized business I have come across. I bought my mother a massage from a "special" that this company was advertising. I had prepaid for the massage since it was a gift for mom.
When she got there, the owner claimed he could not verify the payment had gone through. It took the owner -- a rather grouchy individual called Rod -- more than 20 minutes to verify the payment. Turns out he writes a small code on a piece of paper which confirms payment status and there is a piece of paper that corresponds to each appointment. He could not find the paper for my mom, hence the delay. Why he did not get all that taken care of before the appointment I will never know.
Once that was resolved, Rod refused to honor the discount he had promised in the special. He complained how my mom was being too demanding -- for just asking that he hold up his end of the bargain.
This guy has no respect for customers. Judging by the other reviews, it seems that the cat is out of the bag and meowing loudly and Rod cannot scream it down like he tried to do to my mother.
Please avoid an undeserving merchant like Rod since there are many reputable and deserving places that actually strive to serve their customers.
Many reviews for AHH, Inc. have, interestingly enough, made comment of how controversial Rod Dudley (owner), is in business practices. I assure you if you have truly been in to visit Rod or any of his staff you would find that what has been suggested in some of these reviews are contrary to the truth. I would encourage you to visit the offices in person and read what (CitySearch cut the rest after posting)?
