This bright, airy and joyful Santa Monica bakery has a pastry case that will make your jaw drop, and sophisticated breakfast, lunch and dinner offerings too--try the brisket hash with arugula, and local line caught tuna with white beans and fingerlings. Thursdays are $30 prix fixe "family dinner" nights--check the website for updated menus.

While their salted caramel squares are out of this world... they also have bacon covered cream puffs. Just saying!

Everything is good: english muffins, daily soups, grilled cheese, best peanut butter and housemade jelly (get it on fluffy multigrain), salted caramel and lemon squares, white bean puree...and on and on.

Delicious sandwiches! – My husband and I tried Huckleberry after reading a review in LA magazine, and we were not disappointed. The pesto-pepper-burrata sandwich was delicious. Also, the staff was very friendly and the parking was free (which is hard to find in Santa Monica). We went on a weekend, so the line was long and the restaurant was quite busy, so we ended up waiting for a table, but the food was terrific and definitely worth the wait!

looks better than it tastes, but cute – this place is really cute, but it was a madhouse on the weekends with an icky Santa Monica looky loo crowd

the desserts are just so amazing looking, but i had a piece of cake and it didn't taste all that amazing

i'd still go back but not on a sat morning

Trendy, pretentious, overpriced... – There are a few words that describe Huckleberry. Pretentious. Trendy. overpriced. Noisy. Disorganized. Strange (menu items other than pastry that exist to be odd). Yes, I want poached eggs on top of veggie salad! Yuck! Duck hash?

Who on earth would return to this place? Are we that hurting for cool breakfast/lunch places in Santa Monica? The owners scored with Rustic Canyon. This place is a miss. But who would know based on the crowds? Then again, Los Angeles people think pizza is served at Dominos and Pizza Hut.

Huckleberry - My new go-to place – Yes, it's packed. And it should be. But if you're patient you can always get a table. Just pretend you're in New York or San Francisco except the weather is better. The bread and pastries are beyond compare. The chocolate cake is perfect. Weekend brunch is something I look forward to all week. Duck hash with fried eggs, green eggs and ham, fried egg sandwich, mmmmm... And the donuts!!! There are also lunch specials. I love fried chicken Fridays. And the fresh pizza on Wednesdays. I hear there are chicken tacos one day but I haven't had those yet. Everything so fresh and farmer's market-y. Go, go go...

Wish I lived near here – I'm not sure whether to rave about the food first, or the staff - both were some of the best I've seen in Los Angeles.

Okay, food first. Fresh Valrhona chocolate croissants, amazing flat bread smothered in potato slices, perfectly poached eggs on grilled vegetables, fresh bread, homemade vanilla syrup in their vanilla lattes... I only wish I had more room to try more, but everything we had was exceptionally fresh and flavorful.

Now the staff. We went on Saturday morning. The place was packed and there was a line out the door. The counter staff moved the line through quickly and thanks to their "don't take a table until you've ordered" policy, which the staff make sure is followed, there was an empty table when we needed it. The counter staff were friendly and had great recommendations, our food and drinks came quickly, the bussers got our plates out of the way as soon as we were done and had tables cleaned the instant people had left... just outstanding service.

The only problem with Huckleberry is that I don't live in the neighborhood, otherwise I'd be there every Saturday for breakfast.

great food, very, very bad service – took our friends visiting LA to huckleberry for brunch, after reading about all the great pastries and checking out their cute website.

first there was this staff who said she's part time and doesn't usually work here, kept snapping at us for waiting for tables before purchasing food. in fact we were waiting for our turn to order... fine, we respect your policy, just not your attitude. you just have to tell us and we'll respect your policy.

then while waiting for our food, a staff comes over and says, "can u put your number signs out on the table so that we can ACTUALLY SEE THEM? you're like hiding your numbers." alright we apologize for not putting them way out in front of our table, but why the tone?

then the fruit tarts come, which are good, but flies come flying out of them because of the flower ornaments on the tarts. we also found tiny fruit flies in our salads, but were more questioned about it (like we were making up stuff or something) than compensated.

last but not least, the waiter girl who says she works part time there sweeps the floor and sticks her broom straight under my chair and scratches my ankle multiple times. her response is a sarcastic "oops, sorry" and turns around to giggle.

i don't know if it's that we're asians, or that this place was just pure rude. the food still doesn't make up for such service. we felt totally disrespected by huckleberry. it's a pity though, if it weren't for the rudeness, this place would have been one of our favorites.

Love this place! – It only opened this week, and I've been three times already. The food and baked goods, all that I've tried, are amazing. Fresh breads, pastries, cakes... I also had the chicken and the meatball sandwich for lunch (and take home). Also the brisket hash for breakfast is to die for. And the donuts!! They are only available for an hour or so. Probably the best donut I've ever had in my life. I could go on, but I'm getting hungry. Can't wait for Wednesday when it opens again!

Just opened and the food & staff are great! – I am already in love with this cafe and have eaten there twice since it opened. What all can I say...

-The staff are very friendly and helpful

-The desserts & baked goods are insanely good

-The donuts are a must have!

-The food is made from Niman meats, organic products, and all around good stuff

-They make everything themselves, even the syrups for the flavored coffees

The hours are limited at this time and I am hoping they will expand soon. They are a little expensive, but I chalk this up to the high quality of the ingredients they use and that they make everything themselves. Also, the menu is currently somewhat limited, and I am imagining that will expand in the future as well. That being said, everything I've had has been fabulous!

Just a few paces from the freshly opened Santa Monica Seafood, this airy new artistan bakery--from the couple behind Rustic Canyon Wine Bar--is serving up beachy locals a selection of homemade organic – In Short
Cooks sifting cracked wheat in the back of an exposed stainless steel kitchen give notice that this bakery/cafe emphasizes fresh, made-to-order fare. Decadent banana caramel cream pies and lemon bars sit on metallic trays behind glass cases and sleek, espresso machines churn up frosty cups o' joe. Fresh cut sun-yellow flowers top forest colored tables, pushed together to give curious kids space to glance at platters of mini chocolate cupcakes. Old-school paintings of countrymen rocking retro duds hang on the walls, giving it a Southern, homestyle edge. Below the frames, a few locals curb their sweet tooth and chomp on fried egg sandwiches and brisket hash.
