Outstanding food, service & ambience – This place is truly excellent. I don't know how I spent so many years eating at Bluehour, Paley's Place and other established PDX favorites without trying Serratto. My partner and I are self-proclaimed foodies, having eaten all over PDX, the US, and the world. We have now been to Serratto three times - just the two of us, with another couple, and in a group - and every time it has been a great dining experience. Every time has been a different experience, but always a great one. It's as if Serratto scans your mood on the way in the door, and then has this chameleon-like ability to adapt to it.
The halibut, which a friend ordered and loved, was the least fishy I have ever eaten in my life. I don't love fish, but I would definitely order that dish again. Same for the tuna appetizer, which they pushed hard one night - it didn't sound great to me, but it was amazing, and seemed like a bargain compared to the cost of that much tuna at a sushi restaurant. Another thing is that they offer pastas in half orders, which allowed us to try more flavors and not get full - the waiter said it was so that we could eat pasta as a first course like in Italy. We said "hear that, honey" because that was our favorite part of traveling Italy. Last but not least, the homemode gelato is delicious. Supposedly the dessert chef used to work at Papa Hayden, which everybody in town knows is THE place for dessert. Apart from the food, the place looks beautiful, everybody is smiling, there are fresh cut flowers, the lighting is just right, etc. It's the little things that convince us that Serratto gets it.
Last but not least, we heard they just started serving brunch and that it is not busy yet, so we plan to try that next - especially since we were told we could get a free mimosa. Enough said, see you Sunday!
Great place for a meal – We went here for a birthday celebration. The group consisted of 9 through 71 year olds. We were seated promptly and our server came over right away. She gave us extra time to look over the menu, at our request. Ordered calamari and it was served very quickly and was really good. The salads came next, and were tasty, although the pear/walnut salad was short on pears. Dinners ordered were mac n cheese, the burger and monk fish. All were good. Service was attentive and professional.
Would definitely recommend this place. Make a reservation, it was busy!
Amazing Food – I had dinner on Saturday night with 5 of my friends. We were seated promptly at 7:00pm and had the most wonderful server. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and recommended a wonderful bottle of wine (we had 2). We ordered the BBQ ribs and calamari for appetizers- and both were great. Everyone loved their dinners- we had the pork, the lamb ravioli, the risotto, the spinach fettuccine and the tagliatelle with wild boar. Everyone finished everything on their plate. We were full, but decided to try dessert as well, and were not disappointed. I would highly recommend Serrato for the food, the ambience and the amazing service!
The BEST Customer Service – We went with a group of 6 to Serrato's on a Friday night, and had reservations for 6 at 7:30pm. When we got there, they explained that our table was not free yet (there were still guests having desert at the table) and asked if we would like another table. Since the table that we made reservations for was a nice round table, we said we would wait. They were very apologetic, but we didn't mind waiting- it was quiet enough in the entryway to hear our conversations). Then, the hostess brought all six of us glasses of champagne while we waited. We got our table a little after 8. We ordered the clams as appetizers and they were delicious. They also brought us another appetizer, although I can't remember what it was (they apologized again for the late seating). We ordered the special of the night- paella, which was very good, and did not skimp on the seafood. Other meals that were ordered were the risotto, the pork, and the steak. Every dish was clean. We also ordered some deserts to share, which were also all eaten. The server brought out some desert wine at the same time, again to apologize for the initial wait. Overall, I can't wait to have another excuse to go there. The server and all other staff really knows how to keep customers coming back. Even if they did not bring us all the freebies, we enjoyed the atmosphere, the staff, and all the food. We will definitely be back again for a special occassion.
Fantastic, Classy way to celebrate turning 21 – My boyfriend made reservations for us to have dinner at Serratto for my 21st birthday, and we had a wonderful experience. Upon entering, they immediately handed us each a glass of champagne (you can imagine my excitement since I was turning 21). The service was great, the food was delicious, the wine was great, and the dessert was fantastic. It was such a wonderful night. It was expensive for our college student budget (my boyfriend ended up shelling out more than $130 for everything), but it was way worth it. Very relaxed, yet classy. We loved it!
Great Happy Hour! I had no idea. I've lived in the NW area for years and recently discovered Seratto's Happy Hour. I now frequent it often. Selected wines are $4 and there are Pizza's fresh from the wood oven for $5-6 if my memory serves me correct. A party of 2 can leave full of drinks and wine for under $30. I highly recommend going with friends or for a quiet date. The atmosphere in the bar lends itself to both occasions.
Great Service, Good Food – Serratto, located next to Caffe Mingo, on Kearney is great for a romantic dinner. The dining room is dimly lit and though it is only average sized the sizable ceiling space creates a feeling of spaciousness. The service is exceptional and the food is good and reasonably priced. I recommend the the Manacotti. Make reservations for the place fills up quickly on a Friday or Saturday night. All in all a good dining experience and would recommend it.
Wonderful, relaxing dinner, incredible service – I have been told about Serratto from friends that have long enjoyed Portland's restaurant scene. The fabulous food, incredible service, great atmosphere. No smoke was blown!!! We were NOT disappointed Tuesday night. Everything was superb!!!! Our server was professional and very pleasant ,yet not an overwhelming presence. Water and wine consistantly and stealthly filled and plates removed at the exact correct time. All four of us enjoyed our appetizer (calamari), our entrees (phenomenal roast chicken, venison great, and lovely, sophisticated mac n cheese) and 2 bottles of an incredible Pinot Noir. Far too satiated to induldge in dessert, but next time. There will be many "next times" for us and our friends. Thank you, Serratto, for getting it right and making it worth spending $200+ on dinner and wine.
HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE/MANAGER RESPONSE! – Our firm called on October 29th to book one of the small rooms at the restaurant for our firm Holiday party to take place on Saturday, December 8th. I was told on the phone the room was available and the manager would be calling me to confirm the reservation as well as to provide me with details of the menu offerings. Two weeks later, our office still had not heard anything from the Manager or Serratto, at all! So, I just called to confirm our reservation and get the appropriate details. The manager got on the phone and at first, told me there was no record of me calling or making a reservation. Then he said he found a note with my name (I was the person who called in October) on it and a note that someone had attempted to call us back because the room was actually reserved already. We work in a law firm, the phones are ALWAYS answered during business hours and voicemail is available after business hours. NOT ONE MESSAGE EXISTS regarding the lack of reservation due to incorrect information provided by the obviously uninformed person who originally answered the phone. The restaurant was guaranteed a party of 15 guests - and they just lost their business. The manager didn't seem to care either. What a poorly run customer service business!
Very fun, lively and affordable restaurant. – Our night began at the bar with a cocktail and wine. The bartender, Josh, was very knowlegeable, friendly and accommodating. We chatted with the other patrons, who all seemed to be there to enjoy the night and relax.
We were seated for dinner in the main dining room, at the back wall with a very large mirror. Our waiter was extremely attentive, courteous and efficient. Our water and wine glasses were never empty and they promptly removed any empty plates. The timing of our various courses were right on cue. We never had to wait too long for the next course and we never had two courses on the table at one time. We would ask some details about the food and if he didn't have the answer, he would come back with an answer from the kitchen.
Overall, it is our favorite restaurant so far. To give you some point of reference, other restaurants we've dined at are Fenouille, Bay 13, Paragon.
The only complaint about the night, although it had nothing to do with the restaurant, was that the table next to us was extremely loud. It was to the point where it was difficult for my husband and I to converse.
We would highly recomend this restaurant and definitely will return.
