I engaged HUB plumbing to replace TWO of my furnaces in December 2011. These furnaces have not been fully functional until October of 2011. This, however, I accepted and is not the nature of my complaint. I had, in the interim, further contracted them to install a 3rd furnace in a tenant's apartment. I have been both a good customer and a patient one.
As part of that original installation, a Honeywell steam humidifier was specified in the contract. It is now December 2012 and I still do not have the humidifier, nor a refund. It was installed, but later determined that it would not ever work in my heating system. There had been at least 5 different visits to try to repair the installation to make it work. Other humidifying solutions were researched but the later more capable installer said I would never be able to use central humidification. The office insisted I would but only weeks later capitulated. I am now at least $1,154.60 (a price that was once quoted but never again restated in contracts), many many hours of my time taken off work to be home for the many, many times they came to try to make this work, and I have a hole in my wall in my house.
Lastly, their plumbers (whom I asked to fix a dripping faucet) charge as much as they can get away with - they are commissioned on their sales and will try to gouge you for as much as they can. They wanted to charge me nearly as much as the Grohe faucet cost in the first place. I bought the cartridge on Amazon for $13 and fixed it myself. It cost $163 for them to come out and "analyze" it and give me a quote!
AC Masters! – My condenser kicked out the first day it got hot. Mike Palmer came over, and I guess they were a bit slow, but good for me!
The condenser was ordered as Mike started disconnecting the old one, and was there in, I'm going to say, 45 minutes.
Some other guys took the old one away, and Mike had the new one up and running by day's end. All said and done, $1500.
It wasn't the first thing I wanted to spend $1500 bucks on, but it had to be done, and he did a great job. Thanks folks!
If you do not know anything about plumbing(caution). – Called Hub Plumbing to come over to get an estimate on changing two faucets and while they were here to change the toilet seat. First there is a charge to come to give est. and they would apply the cost if you agree to have them do the work. Well just to install a two bolt toilet seat that cost at home depot $19.00 to $30.00 was $400.oo. The two faucets to be installed came to $1600.00. I asked the two plumbers that handed me the estimate if they thought i was from another planet. I quickly told them to get the f.... out of here. Toilet seat takes 5 minutes to r & r....was it gold? I faxed over the estimate to a plumbing and heating supply house i know and to this day everyone that reads it thinks it is a joke. Plumbers charge roughly $100.00 per hour....Hub is way out of line and they are the ones that should bend over and see how it feels to have someone stick it up their a....
Good Job, sexy plumber – I had those guys come over last week for a kind of big job in my place, having a large apartment in Manhattan I m used to the fact that everything cost a lot when I call for any kind of service. I thought their price was reasonable specially after seeing how much it took to fix the problem, not sure they realized that at the beginning. Joe the owner came over for consultation, no charge for it, I was pleasantly surprised knowing my past experiences of price abuses by other people. He was very friendly and have to say one of the sexiest plumbers I've ever seen. He then sent one of his guys to do the job (bummer). Robert, a very responsible, efficient and friendly Polish guy, who worked extra hours to finish it on time. I will certainly recommend them and use them again.
do not walk away, RUN! – I tried to not give any stars but this system makes you give at least one, but I give them
Negative -10 stars(aka this company sucks)
These people charged my 93 year old aunt $1,700 for a hot water heater. A $500 job at best.
And they put her off all day and showed up at 11:00 at night.
Do not beleive the phony reviews he is posting for himself. Especially the one about using them for the past 4-5 years. When they are a 2 year old company.
Can you believe they treat the elderly this bad!
DO NOT USE HUB PLUMBING
Are you out of your mind?
A water heater itself can cost anywhere from 500$-$1500 for a residential unit, depending on the size.
You show me where you can get a water heater done for $500. We showed up at 11:00 BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T ANSWER THE PHONE ALL DAY LONG.
2 Year old company? Check the Department of Buildings. We're incorporated in 2001 you schmuck.
You're welcome, by the way.
Hub plumbing – I had Hub Plumbing & Mechanical come out last Saturday to deal with the heat being off on my mom’s place. She is elderly and the house was freezing. Within two hours, John was there, and quickly diagnosed the problem. Turns out it was an electrical problem on one of the controls caused by a leak. He was able to fix both issues quickly, and politely. He even wore boot covers over his shoes so as not to track a hundred pounds of snow in.
Would definitely use him again.
Excellent Firm – In response to the other review, we were the only response that he got. We did not coerce him to hire us, and he seemed happy at the time of service. I wonder why he waited until we left to publish a review on Citysearch to the contrary?
Worst Plumber - $376/hr – I run 17 properties in Boston and am disgusted with Hub Plumbing. All of my go-to plumbers were out of town for Columbus Day weekend and I had to find a replacement for a water leak. I had a plumber come out from Hub Plumbing and was quoted $376 for one hour of labor to repair a copper pipe. Instead of giving you an hourly rate or a minimum job price over the phone, Hub Plumbing waits until they get to your property to give you a quote and hopes you pay it since they are already there! I would strong urge you to avoid them at all costs -- I have never worked with a firm as overpriced and unprofessional as Hub Plumbing.
Yeah, and we helped you locate the valve to shut things down, and didn't charge you a dime. You're welcome. All of your other reviews are whining and babyish too. What a life you must lead.
Next time, try calling the plumber that DOESN"T ANSWER THE PHONE on a holiday weekend, and leave my company alone.
Always happy with HUB! – I've used HUB Plumbing for about 4-5 years now, ever since I called on them for a true emergency (the pit where the sewage ejector pump was backing up...GROSS!). Every time I call them they are friendly (love how they answer the phone...it puts a smile on my face just to start with) and I always seem to get an appointment within about a day. They have 24-hr service but nothing since has been a real emergency so I can easily wait a day or two (not a big deal at all...I mean, to get cable you need to wait weeks it seems).
I can't believe I haven't written a review before. Every experience I've had with HUB has been a very positive one (and I seem to call on them once a year at least for something...whether it's a plumbing issue or a general service on my heating system). They show up on time (usually...sometimes they're running late because they get stuck on a job...but I understand because if they're at my place longer than necessary to get the job done - I'm thrilled - but then it means the next person might have to wait a bit), they wear booties so they don't mess up your floors, they explain what needs to be done, and then they get to it. And then they clean up when they're done! And the guys (they may have some women plumbers but I haven't seen one yet) are always SO nice.
Today Elijah was my hero. My kitchen sink was backing up and it was pretty gross. I thought it was because of my disposal (I'm fairly liberal with what I put down it...a no-no I realize now thanks to Elijah) and that it wouldn't take long at all. It ended up being a clog in the main stack/pipe and he was here over 2 hours. But he got the job done!
As usual, I'm super happy with HUB. How often is it that a service person leaves your home and you're really happy!?! I'd recommend them to anyone needing a plumber! Go HUB!
go with Hub – I have had a number of plumbing issues in recent years - both big and small and Hub Plumbing has always been quick to respond and accommodating. Every plumber I have worked with through Hub has been professional, friendly and very knowledgeable - and in a few instances had to find some very creative solutions because the space was very tight. I highly recommend them.
