This place should be closed. I’m a 48 year-old woman who had to go there to be detoxed from alcohol, (first detox) because it was the only place that would take my insurance. It was a soul-destroying experience, and I just regret I can’t sue them.
Treatment includes case management, individual counseling and group counseling. These sessions are mandatory during the client’s stay and include one individual substance abuse counseling daily, three group counseling sessions each day, and attendance at Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous meetings nightly.
Nonsense; during my five day stay we had one AA meeting, and two group counseling sessions. The woman who ran the group sessions was a kind-hearted but clueless person; her “counseling” consisted of identical lectures about how much God loved us and how we were all going to get married and be happy. I think about a third of the women were gay they laughed themselves silly over her.
There was a schedule for art classes posted, but when I asked about them no one knew anything. When I asked for art supplies I was given some computer paper and a pencil without an eraser.
The food was disgusting. They gave us things like watery scrambled eggs made from a powder, sandwiches made with salami that had nodules of fat oozing out of it, and baloney that was dried out on one end. There were two women there who had served time and they told me they got better food in prison.
The place was woefully understaffed and the rules just seemed to exist to be broken. It was supposed to be all women, but there were three men there, one of whom walked in on me while I was taking a shower. A quiet and meek patient came up to me with tears in her eyes and told me she couldn’t sleep at night because her roommates were having group sex. I asked he why she didn’t tell the nurses and she said she was afraid to. Well, I wasn’t afraid to. The nurse’s response was, “I’ll have to ask the night shift to keep a closer watch on things.”
My stay there was one of the most traumatic things I’ve undergone. It is difficult to believe that such a place exists today in the United States.
