Unorganized – I am Grandmaster Parham...I did teach at America's Youth. They went bankrupt and I did not find out until the day I taught class when the curators of the facility asked for the keys. There was absolutely no communication or warning about the circumstances. I didn't get paid for the last 4 months that I taught there!
Schedules were mixed up. I had to travel from work (sometimes coming from Pleasanton) to Vacaville in an hour and a half to make it to clas on time. Needless to say, I tried my best but was late quite often.
The children and the parents were understanding, great and very helpful...they made me want to continue even though I wasn't receiving a check.
I tried to continue a program on my own but was unsuccessful in securing a location and more importantly a decent time.
I don't like America's Youth Karate Program because they robbed me blind! Let me explain this to y'all, I was one of the students who was in this karate program and I got cheated! My parents said that I could take some karate lessons if I'd pay for it with my allowance. When I heard this, I was so happy and started to save my money so I could take lessons. At my school, we got papers for activities we could do after school and on one of the papers was America's Youth karate program and the price seemed verrrryyyyy low! So I stupidly went for it and started the class. I got far in the class and then it was over. someone had said that america's youth went bankrupt. I had prepaid the classes and i did not get my money back! I feel sooooo frustrated!!!!!
america's youth-don't pay on a promise – America's Youth Outreach Program seemed like a good idea for my child... Until it went bankrupt. Quite a few parents paid for classes in advance only to learn that the program was closing and no refunds would be available. Karate Instructor "Grandmaster Robert Parham" promised the kids in his Vacaville CA class that he would continue teaching the class under his name instead of "America's Youth Outreach Program". That was back in October 2007, still no refund or classes (it is now February 2008).
Valuable lesson learned: Don't pay on a promise!
Beware!! Huge class size and would not return our money! – We found the class size to be prohibitively large. For our 5 year old, having more than 30 other students in the class and only one instructor proved too distracting for him. So, we cancelled our program and asked for a refund. Now, over a month later, we have yet to receive our money. They are asking me for my continued patience since they are "very tight" this month. Essentially, they used my money to pay their taxes and now cannot and will not send me a refund check. He said "hopefully" I could receive it in another few weeks....2 months after our initial cancellation. I can only hope at this point he will folow through. Buyer beware.
