Benny's Moving destroyed our $900 TV, and offered $30 for it, even though our contract entitled us to $1.25 per pound of the entire shipment (easily covering this amount). They raised their offer to $300 only after legal threats.
The long version: We asked the movers to be careful with our TV, since it was the most fragile and expensive item that they were moving. When they were done, noticed that the TV had been left behind several boxes and was the only item still wrapped in their moving blankets when they left. This didn't seem suspicious at first, but in retrospect should have been a red flag.
After several days of unpacking, we finally got to the TV, to discover that the screen was smashed, and the corner dented in. It seems extremely unlikely that the movers didn't notice the fall or hit that would have caused this much damage, yet they didn't say anything, and still happily accepted our cold drinks all day, as well as my tip at the end of the day.
I looked over the contract, and noticed that, due to their negligence, the contract was filled out in such a way to make them liable for $1.25 per pound of the entire shipment, rather than the $0.60 per pound of the item that they'd later claim. They also never had us sign the section acknowledging that the job had been completed.
I contacted them on Friday, and was asked to contact their person in charge of claims, with pictures, and that she'd be contacting me the next morning. This email address continuously bounced, and I wasn't contacted. When I called them the following afternoon, I was asked to fill out a claim form, and told that they pay $0.60 per pound of the broken item. I quickly filled out the form and then emailed and faxed it to the number supplied, along with pictures and links to the TV and its current price. They claimed several times not to have received the fax, so I kept sending it. They said that they had gotten it, and would contact me on Monday.
On Monday, I was unable to reach anyone willing to talk to me after repeated calls. On Tuesday, I reached an employee who was willing to talk. At first, he offered me $0.60 cents per pound of the item (about $30) and we went over the signed contract. He agreed that:
1. I had not filled out the section selecting a liability coverage, and was thus entitled to $1.25 per pound.
2. This applied to the weight of the entire shipment, not to the individual item.
I pointed out that, assuming that the contents of my entire apartment exceeded 720lbs (they do), they were liable for at least $900. He spoke to someone while I waited, and came back, offering $120. It took a week and legal threats to get them to raise the offer to $450.
Don't use this company.
Wish you had more stars to choose!! – wish you had more stars to choose!! I just wanted to write about my tremendous moving experience. Moving is always so stressful and this guys took away a great deal of the stress by being friendly, informative, accommodating, and responsive. From the online order, to the phone follow-up, to the actual move... this was a terrific experience. They were really great - fast, friendly, honest and efficient as well as very respectful of my belongings - treating them with extreme care. I truly couldn't have done this move without them. And I will definitely recommend Benny's to family and friends.
We just finished up a local move to our new home in Metro-West with Benny's and the team was very professional. The booking and estimation process was efficient, clear, and the time table for our move came back within a tighter timeframe than we expected.
During the day of the move Terry and his crew were on time and asked a number of questions to make sure the destination portion of the move went smoothly. They were efficient, safe and had no damages to my family's belongings. The team finished up by 16:00 and came in over $1000 below the estimate.
I had just used a national carrier the previous year when my wife and I moved up from Maryland. This "local outfit" easily outclassed them and outperformed them. I will be recommending them to friends in the area for future moves.
The team of three guys was terrific. Terri who managed the move was very friendly and did a great job keeping the team on task and getting everything taken care of. They arrived within their window, packed things up efficiently and carefully, and unloaded and put things together with no complaints. Our move was into a townhouse, so there was plenty of navigating narrow stair wells - they did so without banging up the walls or damaging the furniture. They do charge for the packing supplies they use and for their travel time, in addition to the hours of the move. Overall the price was fair and I could not be happier with Benny's Moving & Storage Company.
Moved a piano to RI from Boston for $300. and I have no complaints!
I cannot recommend Benny's highly enough. These guys were absolutely fantastic.
My wife and I moved this week from Dorchester to Malden. We probably had about 75-80 boxes, plus a bunch of furniture. The three movers arrived well within the one-hour estimated arrival time and were extremely swift, efficient and friendly from the very beginning. The guy in charge introduced himself to me right away and was only too happy to accommodate our various requests.
The initial contact I had with them consisted of an email requesting an estimate. They got back to me immediately, asked me to submit an estimated inventory, then got back to me later that day with an estimate. The phone conversations with their office guy, Sachin, were all very pleasant and he was as helpful and accommodating as possible. The price ended up being lower than most of the other movers I researched.
I don't really have any interesting anecdotes or unique examples of the movers going "above and beyond." Suffice it to say that they were complete professionals and I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone wishing to move anywhere in the Boston area.
Moving can be a stressful experience, but hiring Benny's will make it much less stressful, trust me.
BAD Moving Company! Avoid! – Benny's is a terrible "rip-you-off" moving company.
They arrived late to pick up our items, charged me a higher rate than what I was quoted, were careless with my belongings, cracked my dresser and then refused to compensate me, even though I was told my quote included insuance.
What a scam this company is. Bad Bad movers! :(
TERRIBLE MOVING COMPANY – I would give this company minus 10 starts if I could. FIrst, they give you the big, hard sell and start out like they want to treat you like family. What a farce.
They were SEVEN hours late picking up my house, without an apology. They essentially THREW my boxes onto the truck when they thought my wife and I weren't looking. They were TWO days late delivering and we had to stay in a hotel with our children at our expense.
When we spoke with the owner, David Abotbool, he essentially blew us off. No compensation, no apology.
AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS.
Terrible Experience ... – #1) The sales said anything and promised everything
to make you move with them
#2) They charged extra at the moving day
#3) They moved fast so that they could go to next job
#4) Fast and careless. They dropped boxes and broke
#5) The sales was rude after the move
#6) The compensation was not going to be fair and justified
The B E S T Moving Service On 9/3/08 I had a residential move from Brookline to Springfield, MA. The movers were fantastic! They arrived just Around 8 AM, were courteous and extremely efficient and very polite.
