Amazing Bisques! – I love going to Prose because there are few places in the Boston/Cambridge area like it. The chef uses all local ingredients, and you feel like she is cooking just for you! The food is very flavorful, rich and hearty. You will never leave hungry! I could eat their bisques and salads every night! Another one of my favorites is the chicken (thigh). The juices are out of this world and the meat is cooked to perfection! The chef/owner does all the cooking herself, so you must be prepared to wait. But it is worth it!
Prose has a small, cozy, artsy atmosphere that is unique. The walls are dotted with interesting photos and the owner's personal artwork, and there is always interesting music playing in the background. This place is straight out of Greenwich Village. An absolute gem!
Creative and tasty seasonal dishes – My husband and I have eaten at Prose several times and we've even brought both of our parents there. All agreed that the food was both interesting and delicious. The menu changes nightly and is reflective of the season and ingredients available. The ambiance is pleasant and warm if not particularly exciting, but then I don't go to Prose to be wowed by the decor. During each of our visits, we've never had anything but excellent service. I highly recommend the spaetzle.
HIGHLY Not Recommended – This restaurant came highly recommended. However, we're not sure why. The food was average in taste and content, the wine list was overly priced and the overall service was terrible. In fact, the steak that was ordered medium came out rare and both the waitress and chef (who is the owner) pushed the fact that they could recook the meal. Bad, bad business decision. Once your meal arrives, no one should have to wait again for a meal that now is a left-over.
A small storefront bistro with great truly food – If you like restaurants where it's hard to choose from the menu because everything sounds delicious and is reasonably priced, this is the place for you. The food is inventive and full of flavor. The decor is "storefront plain," but that makes it friendly, rather than ostentatious. The service is laid back, but that adds to the charm. If it's not too busy, the owner/chef is eager to discuss the food and wine with you. Busy or slow, you're never rushed. It's an experience, and it's all about the food.
Incredible value for $$ – This is a real find. The menu is inventive and changes daily depending on what the chef finds at the local farmers' market (organic & local produce is always featured). The decor is simple and a little quirky, but it's homey. And anyway, the decor is not why you should come -- the food is simply wonderful. There's hearty soups, homemade pasta, grilled steak or chicken, terrific mashed potatoes, yummy sides (sometimes features unusual things like fiddleheads or sunchokes) and the best sweet potato fries. It's like gourmet comfort food that's cooked to order. Which means it can take a little while to get to you, but at least you know it was really cooked, as opposed to microwaved.
Great Find – I stumbled along this place the other day and was pleasantly suprised. The interior is very colorful and comfortable, the menu was small but has something for everyone. The homeade tea was brewed to perfection and the food was delicious and the presentation made it even better. The scallops and chicken were wonderful!!
