Great Dinner Specials and Large Portions – I've been going to Double T with my family for as long as I can remember and find myself spoiled by the variety on their menu. I especially like the dinner specials and mild buffalo wings. Aside from Bill Bateman's, Double T is the only local restaurant I've found that makes them how I like them.

Terrible overall experience – I recently ate at the Double T Diner in Ellicott City. The food was mediocre and the service was poor. Every restaurant is allowed an off-night, though, so I didn't worry about it.

The gentleman at the register asked how everything was, so I told him. He didn't say anything and proceeded to punch the receipt into the register. I thought this was odd, but figured maybe he was giving me a discount rather than speaking to me.

Nope. No response and no discount.

So I asked him if he heard what I'd said about the food and service. He looked at me, I repeated myself, and he turned away to ring up the next customer.

At this point, I asked if I could talk to the manager. He pointed to a young woman behind the counter, and I walked over and asked if she was the manager. She smiled, shook her head, and pointed back to the man behind the register. I walked back to him and asked if he was the manager. He laughed and pointed at the woman, who pointed back at him. They were both laughing at their awesomely funny joke. I dispensed with a four-letter word and walked out.

WTF?

I can live with mediocre food and weak service. As I said, every restaurant has a bad night. I wasn't trying for a discount when I commented at the register, I just wanted to let them know how my meal was. For that, I got laughed at and ignored. I guess this is what I should expect from a diner that has been repeatedly sued for sexual harassment against its waitresses.

So, I'm done with the Double T. There's another diner called the Forest Diner right next door. I stopped there for dessert on my way home, and the service was awesome. When I told our waitress about what had happened, she said she's heard stuff like that before.

Moral of the story? If you want to pay $60 for mediocre food and crappy service and then get laughed at by a 60-year-old douchebag cashier, then Double T is the place for you. Me, I'm not going back. There are too many good restaurants and good servers for me to waste my time and money on nonsense like this.

A big pseudo-chrome facade signals suburbanites to pull over for comfort food. – The Scene
Started in 1959, this local chain references its natal decade with broadly executed, non-invasive design elements. Patrons won't find waitresses in poodle skirts or chefs with Elvis hairdos. Instead, expansive dining areas--twice the size of their milkshake-making predecessors--feature countless high-backed booths with formica tables and a small counter with padded, spinning stools. Located primarily alongside highways, these tamed down truck spots have successfully targeted the SUV-driving masses.

The Food
Quantity takes precedence over quality in a menu that fills one oversized, laminated spiral notebook. Eggs, burgers, sandwiches and salads are all accounted for with expected fare coming in myriad variations. That means pancakes are topped by strawberries, blueberries, chocolate chips or apple raisin-cinnamon as well as syrup; poultry and fish are prepared alfredo, marsala and caprese. A handful of Greek specialties acknowledge the founders' ethnicity but this bustling enterprise is more a tribute to the American entrepreneur than a Mediterranean expatriate.
