Not worth the trouble – My Grandfather was in this facility for short term physical rehabilitation after having surgery. The time that he spent there was not worth all the trouble that we had during his release. The staff is well trained in taking care of the patients and the physical therapists are very good at what they do. What we didn't like about the center was the lack of communication to the family members regarding the discharge of the patients. We had a long discussion with the social worker when we first admitted my Grandfather that we needed adequate notice of when he would be discharged and what the procedure would be and how long it would take for us to come and check him out. We were told that we would get 48 hour notice...that did not happen, the social worker did not call us, we had to call her to get the status of his discharge. We had to call twice and she did not get back to us until Friday morning and she told us that he would be discharged the next day, on Saturday. We were also told on Friday that the staff was aware that he will be discharged and that the paperwork was all set up, all we had to do was come in and verify his belongings and they would provide us with a weeks worth of medications and he HAD to be out by 11 am because they do not get paid for the day from medicare. None of that turned out to be true, when we got there no one knew that he was going to be leaving, they did not have orders from the doctor and could not contact the social worker because the phone number she had on file was no longer current. The only reason that we got out of there in a timely fashion was because we had to be very firm with the staff and told them that we were leaving and they had to get everything done by 11 am. We did finally leave after 11:30. And later that night when I was giving my grandfather his nightly medication we noticed that one of the medication was empty, they gave us an empty container of his medication! Needless to say the we are very dissatisfied with the lack of communication in this center and WILL NOT be recommending this place to anyone and if we have to use a facility again for any reason it will not be Reo Vista.

Dear Reo Vista Healthcare Center:

My name is Melissa O. and my father, Walter O. was recently a temporary resident at your facility from November 18-December 13,2009. I am his primary care-giver and after two hospitalizations which left him in a weakend state, it was decided that he would benefit from physical and ossupational therapy to help restore his stregth before returning home. We chose Reo Vista because it is close to our home and recommmended as a caring and friendly facility.

I'm writing to tell you that our overall experience with my father's stay at Reo Vista was more than satisfactory and, expecially my dealing with Ann N. in Social Services. She is exceptonally good at ehat she does. As this was the first time having my father stay in a facility of this type, I was feeling a bit nervous and apprehensive; but from my first conversation with Ann, my fears were put to rest. She listened to my goals and advocated for us and I was so pleased to be working with someone genuinely cares about doing quality work. You are fortunate to have Ann in your employee and I believe it's important to recognize a job well done.

Many thanks to Ann and all the staff involved in my father's care...and to you, Mr. B, for all well-run facility.

Caring Care – My 92 yearold mother, suffering from Alzheimers disease, has been a resident at Rio Vista for almost a year and a half. "different behaviors" are accommodated and she is respectfully treated as a person. I am continually amazed and grateful to everyone there for how well they attend to all the residents, many of which are totally dependent on every aspect of their existence.

Rio Vista regularly conducts special events, luncheons and celebrations, complete with special foods, entertainment, photos and acknlowedgements. A monthly newsletter highlights birthdays, patient of the month and detailed event schedules.

Special events and holidays are celebrated. For example, on Cinco de Mayo, the staff brings in home-made specialty foods for residents and visitors and a mariachi band plays while the director grills carne asada for tacos and there are dancers and singers for entertainment. A family atmosphere prevails.

While visiting my mother during lunch, I am given a soda and am welcome to have a cup of coffee or muffins and cookies brought into the morning session. An active and varied activity schedule includes speakers, entertainers, music sessions, painting, carrot cake making and animal visits. It is a tough crowd of stroke and alzheimer patients, along with other assorted recuperative patients, but the activity staff really tries to keep the residents active and involved.

Meals are served in the dining room and in the patients' rooms without fuss. Dietary restrictions are followed by tailored portions, forms of preparation and are very indivdualized.

It is OK to see visitors regularly helping the staff by moving residents to tables, or to their rooms and helping them with their coffee or kleenex. My mother could not receive better care. She, and her fellow residents, are in good hands and both my father and I are very comfortable and pleased to be part of the Rio Vista family.
