Reviews for Velleggia's Italian Seafood

I don't even know why I am writing a review for a restaurant that has been closed down. I guess the childhood nostalgia is setting in on this early Easter morning, and my eyes are tearing up. I left Baltimore years ago after my grandparents passed away. They used to take me to Vellegias frequently as a child/young adult. The food was so amazing at that time, and the waiters/waitresses were always so friendly to us. All of them even knew us by name, and it felt like one big family every time we would go there. Since I had been away for so long, I never knew of them going out of business or the new ownership. I am saddened that it all went downhill after the original owners gave the place up. I am sad that even had to happen. Mary Vellegias sons should have made sure the place stayed open after her passing. I am reading all of these bad reviews, and it breaks my heart. I know nothing about the Coffman family, but maybe they were going through hard times. I agree they should have tried their best to accomodate their customers regardless, but they still may have hit hard times. I can't say, because I do not know them. I am just sad to see that a place I loved as a child is nothing more than a distant memory. I hate nostalgia.

Velleggia of Baltimore is the worst in customer service – I had a reservation for 10 on March 27th at 8pm. They said they had my name on the books, yet they did not have one table available for us to sit. We were also suppose to see the jazz show. I was told it cost $7 when I called, when we get there I'm told it's $25. I am very disappointed in this place. The manager also was starring at my friends cleavage, rather than talking to me about their mess they made of my reservation.

Satisfied. – They moved from Pratt to waters st, and I enjoyed my food. It was done well and at a good price. Can't complain about that.

Horrible Service, Burnt Food and Unprofessional Owner – i went to Velleggia's last night. We waited 45 minutes for our food and it was only two other parties in the restaurant which both consisted of two. When the food came my mother's was burnt and not was what she asked for. Since when did Shrimp Alfredo come with fried shrimp. NEVER! The waiter insisted that "the food is not burnt just a little overcooked." Right! My mother said that she did not want the food and they took it back and brought her the same plate, now with sauteed shrimp which looked a whole lot better. She said that she didn't feel that she should have to pay full price for her meal because she waited over an hour for her food. The waiter agreed but when i came time for the check, no discount. We asked for the manager, in which we were told that he had to take his child home and was not there. Then was told that we could wait for the manager because he was on his way. He never made it and after waiting about a half an hour we finally left. While waiting we were told by the waiter that she was mad because she gave up a shower to wait on us because of party was supposed to be bigger. As if waiting is not her job anyway.I called and spoke to the owner today and he told me that he doubt that the food was burnt because his staff don't make mistakes and are voted, "Baltimore's Best" He also said that she ordered off the menu, but shrimp alfredo is italiana and that was not an issue when she mentioned it to the waiter. Then I asked what about the inconvenience of having to wait for more food? He said, "Inconvenience? They happens everyday, they are apart of life. I am NOT giving any money back because if i do than everyone would think that they can go to velleggia's and complain and get free food." Unprofessional and a lack of concern. I will NEVER eat there again, me or my family.

Best of The Worst – The new ownership here is atrocious. The menu is overpriced for the quality of food you receive. They should stay out of business. I could not even talk to my friends because of the music being so loud. We also ended up hearing the same songs 3x over. Our server a middle aged women was smoking more than serving.

Good food and service – Everything we've had at Velleggia's has been good. (Maybe they're trying a little too hard with the new gelato bar and their application as a night club - which hasn't happened yet.) The service is pleasant and cares what you think. Definitely an affordable, nice meal out for family or romance in Little Italy. One of our favorites - hope they stay around!

Velleggia's doors are closed and OUT OF BUSINESS – As I strongly suspected the Coffman clowns (the new owners of Velleggia?s) were going to be out of business soon and now they are. When you use deception to claim something you are not, karma will catch up with you. All these highly rated posts for this restaurant were obvious B.S. and an attempt by the new owners drum up business in a dishonest manner.

The old Velleggia?s was very good when the Velleggia family owned it and it?s a shame the name is now soiled. The new owners going out of business is a good thing for Little Italy and a great thing for any unsuspecting patrons.

This message is for the Coffman?s for being so dishonest and ripping me off. My middle finger is pointed in your direction.

The worse Italian restaurant ever – I have never written a review on any restaurant before but after eating at Velleggias this last Saturday night and reading the signs all over Velleggias that they were voted the best Italian restaurant in Baltimore, I felt compelled to write my first. Velleggias is the worse Italian food I have ever had. My wife could not eat the Alfredo and they would be better off if they put Rago over the Lasagna. Our server was indifferent to us. I also noticed that the other rewiews by frequentdinerli and tmoliere sounds strange .I think the owners are possibly writing there own reviews. Both of the reviewers said the only "cons" were that there was only one location. I do not know if they really ate there Saturday night but thank goodness there is only one Velleggias! Do yourself a favor and stay away!!
